Rate the Last Movie You Saw...

Ya, I have seen a lot of people get outright bored with Tarantino. He puts in a lot of talk-talk scenes. Watch DeathProof, it has miles of talking, literally.
I don't mind those scenes.
The problem with Django is it is too much self indulgent. Compare the KKK scene in Django with opening scene of Reservoir Dogs or the bar scene in Bastards.
Django also has way too many people walking scenes which add nothing to the story. It feels drawn out.

Speaking of 3D, I just noticed an ad in the newspaper of Jurassic Park re-releasing in 3D. Anyone planning to go for it? I always wondered how it would be to see those Dino's on a huge ass screen. 3D would be really amazing, if applied properly.

Well Tarantino does sprinkle his movies with weird comedy. It is even evident in KB when the axe is thrown, or when Uma Thurman mommy-whips a member of the Crazy 88. He likes: cliche. The opening scene of Reservoir Dogs (RD); is a classic no doubt. The scripting is so solid, and the argument. I feel Tarantino was paying his final tribute to Leone, so the walking scenes were put in. Ya, they add nothing, but the movie can be analyzed holistically...! :)

One of the best opening Western movie scene is probably: Once Upon Time in the West. Or maybe For a Few Dollars More.

Just go with it - 7/10

I love rom-coms and this was no exception. Good story as well.

Super - 6/10

Watched it for Ellen Page ( <3 ), and she's super awesome as usual.

Himmatwala is a great example of how bad films continue to be made in Bollywood under the garb of masala entertainers.

80’s is undoubtedly the most embarrassing decade of Hindi cinema and to attempt a remake of an already bad film is not such a great idea. If director Sajid Khan really thinks that by offering us a film with over the top acting (it’s embarrassing to watch Paresh Rawal), the worst possible jokes and supposedly funny moments (the heroine is shown reading a book Bina pati garbhwati), songs with lyrics like Bum Pe laath he is entertaining us then he is sadly mistaken. 2013 is not 1983 but what was tacky in1983 continues to be so even in 2013.

However let me not review the film this week. Instead let’s read some reactions to Himmatwala

Rahul Gandhi – I condemn this film. How can the heroine in the film say “I hate gareebs”? How? My mother and I will visit all the gareebs harmed in this film and offer them job guarantee under our National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.

Maneka Gandhi – I want a ban on this film as it portrays tigers in a bad light. A tiger is shown attacking the gaon walas. Also the villain is named Sher Singh. I clearly see this as a ploy to harm the image of wild animals. Ban this film now.

Narendra Modi – Sajid Miya has made a terrible film. There is so much poverty and backwardness in this village. Sajid Miya should have studied the Gujarat model of development so that his village could have been more prosperous. The only good thing in this film is the presence of Amba Mata. Jai Ambe! Jai Ambe!

Nitish Kumar – I think Ramnagar is a poor village in Bihar and unless the central government does not grant Ramnagar and Bihar a special category status I want this film to be banned.

M. Karunanidhi – Aiyyo! You Rascala K Sajid! You replaced a Tamil heroine Sridevi with a Naarth Indian Tamannaah. You have hurt Tamil pride and sentiments. I want a ban on this phillum for hurting us Tamils. And why is the saang Naino Mein Sapna not shot on Marina Beach?

Justice Katju – I seek pardon for Sajid Khan. He is of an impressionable age and hence makes bad films. But his family has made great contribution to this country. His sister Farah teaches the nation how to do dil jumping japaang.

The only thing I liked in Himmatwala was the song Naino Mein Sapna and I think Tamannaah has a good screen presence.

My final verdict – Avoid the film unless it’s too hot outside and you want to catch a nap in a cool air conditioned cinema hall.

Both Sajid and his sister makes some ugly movies. (I dont know how people want to even go to movies from such stable)
They ought to have stuck with their original professions.. 2nd grade Goofy standups and a choreographer.

Django Unchained- 8/10
Mr Waltz.. Take a bow. You simply shone like crazy. No wonder Will Smith refused the part of Django. Can see why..

Btw.. any movie where Daniel Day Lewis and Christoph Waltz performed in the same movie? Esp while sharing the screen space ?
