Reading nowadays...

Just finished Jeffery Archer's Paths of Glory. It basically deasl with George Mallory. It's like a biography of his life. Of course, with poetic license. Lots of dramatisation and romanticisation.

It's a good read nevertheless. If you, like me, have been fascinated about the person who may have beaten Edmund hillary to the top of Mount Everest by almost 30 years, then this book is a must read.

^^ Last time I heard, Archer was writing thriller and not biographies. Good for him if he has started delving into much more than Kane and Able :)

See, this is a fictionalised account of Mallory's life.

It needs to come with a disclaimer. But it does have some good details regarding his life. I would really like to know how much of the book is fiction and how much is real.

Managed to finish Wheel of Time. (i.e., till the 11th book) Was quite a task after the first 3-4 books. :p Now I need to get back my faith in fantasy novels , so have started lotr again :eek:hyeah:

It'll have to be big, with all the loose threads he's left flapping about.

Who's the author for the last book?

^^ haven't, but had very bad vibes about it from close friends who are avid readers of Indian literature, and I go by their suggestions about Indian writers at least.

Anyone here read 'The White Tiger' by Aravind Adiga?

It's stupid. It;s not torture, but I dont think it is worth the Booker prize. That kind of story seems fabulous for those firangs./I] For us Indians who are surrounded by such poverty and beggars and others are everyday sights, it is nothing great.

Good book... nothing great as far as literature is concerned (that is to say not in league of what Amitav Ghosh or Salman Rushdie can write). Won booker just because India is the toast of this decade. But I hope Indians should read it.

BTW, Adiga was a journalist, so the book reads a little bit like a human-interest feature story.
