Review Real or Fake ? - Xiaomi 10400 mAh Power Bank

Hey guys,
Firstly to the mods, please move this to the appropriate section. I'm not sure where this one belongs.
Why this thread has gone up is because I recently got 2 Xiaomi 10400mAh Power Banks (XPB for short) from Ebay from the seller AllPhoneUnlock: http://stores.ebay.in/allphoneunlock/
The 1st one is the white model, which I procured from http://www.ebay.in/itm/271499716397?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 for 1100 bucks (using Axis coupon; was listed for 1299).
The 2nd one is a golden one (as the white went was going for crazy prices) from here http://www.ebay.in/itm/281357022775?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 (1300 bucks; same coupon; listed for 1499)
Got the 1st one around a week back and have been using it since. Works wonderfully. The 2nd one came 2 days back and just looking at the packing made me suspicious.
I looked at http://en.miui.com/thread-19104-1-1.html (pointers for figure real vs fake XPBs) and found the following differences (which warrant me to believe that the 2nd one is fake):
(P.S.: Before beginning, BOTH the packing came with Xiaomi stickers, which when scratched, revealed a code, which when checked on the Xiaomi verification website, said BOTH are genuine. However, I'm not convinced, so let's see the following points)
1) Packing: The 1st one i.e. the white/silver XPB came in a SEALED satin-ish paper, which had to be peeled away to reveal the PB. There was no way one could take out the PB without damaging the packing. Again, it was sealed. Moreover, the PB was then sealed inside another white plastic box. So double sealing. And exemplary packing.
The 2nd one i.e. golden XPB came in a cardboard box, UNSEALED. Huge difference in packing. One could just open the box and replace whatever was inside. No seals, no plastic box, nothing. Very strange.
2) Lights/LEDs: Please look at the picture below:
hArNLUq.jpg

If you notice carefully, the golden one has DARKER LEDs when compared to the white one. There seems to be some translucent covering behind the white one to minimize overglow.
Moreover, when we press the button to see the charging status, things become more clear:

The golden one has light bleeding, whereas

The white ones doesn't !
3) Ports/Paint:
8bc9MVn.jpg

As you can see, the golden PB's micro-USB port is NOT CENTERED, whereas the white one is perfectly centered in the casing (I'm not sure how far the pic can show this, but holding both the PB at eye level show this). Moreover, the golden one's PAINTJOB is CHIPPED at couple of places as marked. The white one is flawless all around.
4) Printing: Another pic:

If you see closely, you'll notice that the golden one has a darker printing as compared to the smoother one on the white PB.
Another pic to show the same:

What do you guys think ? Can you compare your XPBs with the posted pics and see any similarities/differences ? Please chip in. Meanwhile, I'll try to have a word with the seller.[DOUBLEPOST=1406671086][/DOUBLEPOST]Oh, and the reason I'm putting it up (was asked on another forum as how does it matter, sab chinese hain), the difference is mucho. Xiaomi uses LG batteries and Texas Instruments chip to control power on board, making it safer. The cheaper ones using thin wiring and unverified chips which can cause explosions. Check here: http://en.miui.com/thread-19104-1-1.html
Can cause major fire hazard.

@Spacescreamer @piper[DOUBLEPOST=1406674365][/DOUBLEPOST]Just went through this video:
Looks like what I've is genuine. The usb cable is of the right color (and without logo as well). I haven't checked pass through charging. Will do it sometime later.

^^Yes on both counts. Full charge should take about 5 hours with a 2a charger.

I am ordering more of these for my family and colleagues. Nifty little device.

Cheers :)

Some ebay Coupons would be Helpfull Here lol[DOUBLEPOST=1407149476][/DOUBLEPOST]Secondly this time the seller has not mentioned any where in the listing to check the product via some website from the serial # behind the box or near the device...he has edited his listing[DOUBLEPOST=1407149564][/DOUBLEPOST]

I also bought two silver power banks from allphoneunlock, decent guy, both were brand new and are working great and a 100% genuine.[DOUBLEPOST=1406715876][/DOUBLEPOST]@alekhkhanna where did you find the info regarding official pricing for Xiaomi accessories.

Hi, I bought one from the same ebay seller (AllPhoneUnlock). My silver one has small scratches as shown in the picture above. Also it did not come in a plastic box and came in a paper box (as shown in picture posted by (vercetti). Can you please confirm if anyone's power bank had scratches. Can you also confirm if the ones that comes with paper boxes are original. Thanks in advance.

Note: Mine however cleared all tests quoted on the youtube video. Just worried to rip it apart to check the batteries.

It had a sticker with a code. Once you input the code in Xiaomi's website, it said if your product was genuine.

@Alakiri , I got mine in hard plastic boxes. You can clarify with the seller as to why the packing is different. No scratches whatsoever.[DOUBLEPOST=1407152055][/DOUBLEPOST]@L33TWiZaRd The power bank charges very quickly. On a standard 1A charger, it was fully charged in about 5-6 hrs. So if u use a note 2 charger which is 2.1A , u can expect it too fully charge in about 3-4 hrs

Can you please share with me the contact details of the seller. Tries contacting him over the phone numbers provided in the ebay website. But the numbers were switched off.

hey...for me I did not get any sticker even though I ordered from xiaomi website.
Any idea how to check authenticity?

Try checking the sides of the box. I got mine in the same box packing as yours (not the hard plastic one) and there was a mi scratch sticker on it. Scratching the same revealed a 20 digit code.

And from HK to India ? :/[DOUBLEPOST=1406784454][/DOUBLEPOST]Also update: Checked the pass through charging. Working fine with both the models. Also holding the power button on the battery while charging keeps the LEDs on as long as I'm holding it (the fake one doesn't). Convinced that both are genuine. Yay ! :)
The new ones that you got replaced by the seller, were they in plastic boxes or in the same paper box. Also, did the new one have the light leakage issue. Mine seems to be fine with all the tests (except the lg battery part of it - which I did not check). However, I have some scratches on the power bank and have the light leakage issue too.

Update: I have decided to keep the same piece. Found out that the new XPBs are coming in cardboard boxes instead of the plastic ones. Check the link below:

http://en.miui.com/thread-26244-1-1.html

The seller was very kind and professional. He immediately apologized and offered to provide me another new box.

However, my XPB, though had small scratches, qualified all original tests. Also considering the costs and time it would take to send it back to the seller, I have decided to keep my XPB.

Thanks to the ebay seller allphoneunlock for providing original Xiaomi products. :-)

I think all the new ones he's getting are coming in the paper box (but then Xiaomi confirmed in the vid that they have 2 packings, so it's fine). And as long as it passes all the tests in the video, I don't think there's any reason to worry about. The seller is quite active. Try contacting him on Ebay mail. Generally replies in 3-4 hours.
After checking the legitimacy of the 2nd XPB, I asked him not to replace it.

After the full charge of the power bank how long does the battery of the bank holds...
Can it charge a device like iphone 5 6 to 7 times

Thanks for the prompt reply. Spoke to the seller over phone. Even I have asked him not to replace mine.

Happy Charging. :-)
