well i was confused whether to post in storage section or P2P where such discussions are usually held , so instead i posted it here.

As most people know that most movie dvds are of dvd9 i.e have data around 7.9 gb but the actual movie is usually around 6gb. the other data is usually bonus scenes or such stuff.

so similarly there must be a size of the actual movie apart from the extras in the blu-ray versions too.so can one give a rough idea as to this size of the actual movie content in a bluray disk.
i know it is related to time of the movie and the bitrate too , but still a general figure can be ascertained.
for example smaller english movies take around 4-4.5 gb in a dvd whereas lengthier ones such as lord of the rings took nearly the whole dvd.

^^ I am really not sure if anyone here would be able to ascertain the movie size. As far as DVD is concerned we have a software called DVD Decrypter which can segregate between different length videos and from that it is easy to know which is actual movie. I am not sure if there is a similar software for Blu Ray discs. Moreover not even 1% of the junta here owns a Blu Ray drive so it is difficult to obtain this information.

Moreover i have seen Blu Ray dumps on various torrents and most of the Hindi movies are in Single Layer (25 GB) discs except couple of them (OSO and Jodha Akbar) and the english movies vary in size. I have seen 28-30GB dumps as well as 40 GB dumps and even 45 GB dumps so it is different.

But one way you can do is approximation. Last weekend i was at a shopping center where they were selling blu ray discs. On the demo TV there was Casino Royale movie playing and bitrate was shown to vary between 29 Mbps and 31Mbps so taking 30Mbps into account you can get the size of the movie from its length.

Depends on the movie.. there are SL and DL BDs, same as DVDs. SL Blu-Ray discs are ~25GiB, and DL are 50GiB. highdefdigest.com mentions the movie sizes in their reviews.@Raksrules - AnyDVD HD will do the trick re. the filesize.

even the audio bitrates are too high.....then they have different streams like english , chinese etc which takes up space.Then there is DTS and Dolby audio source etc(DVD).....I dont know how many are there in BD....damn...25GB is too much.:P

@raksrules

well as said by techhead the anydvd hd software tells the size of the main movie

even better there is isobuster through which one can extract the main movie file and then can demux the video with any of the audio and subtitles available depending on his preferences.

that's why the demuxed versions are the ones that are usually considered to be the best in quality after the complete bluray dumps available online.

for example i got a 8 gb brrip but i could have gone for a 18gb demux of the transformers 2 had i known that it wasn't a rip but a demux as demuxes are just the video with one audio source instead of all the other sounds and extra features.

such a rip or to be exact a copy of the original movie with say english audio and english subtitles can be created in one step if it is a dvd by using magic dvd copier or such software , but the process is quite complex in case of bluray.

you can read the guide given on tehparadox.com for any further info where it is taught step by step.

i just needed the info to select from the wide variety of hd rip available of the same movie, and have come to know that the 13-18gb demuxes are the best in quality for smaller movies and longer movies can cross 25gb easily.

i came across lotr trilogy at 25,28 and 31 gb demuxes respectively
