Current favs

Alternative -

  • Death Cab for Cutie
  • Midlake (thanks to chiron for this)
  • Porcupine Tree
  • The Nightwatchman (RATM+Audioslave guitarist, Tom Morello's solo project)

I absolutely dig "Death Cab for Cutie", if there are any drummers here by any chance they should check out Jason McGerr's videos, brilliant man.

PT is boss, will give Midlake and Morello's projetca try, cool recos.

Youve missed out few Sub Genres

"Punk Rock" - Ramones, the Offsprings, The clash, Blink 182, The sex pistols,

"Hard rock" - AC/DC, Whitelion,Firehouse, white snake, Ronnie James Dio , Loverboy, Steeleheart, Deep Purple

other Nu-metal - Killswitch engage, Annhilator, sonic syndicate, Arkea, art of dying, Shinedown

Nice recos I haven't added my "punk" list because I thought I'd let some real punka$$ do it :) :)

I have heard Ramones, Offsprings :)p), Blink 182, and Sex Pistols though, but I'm not a huge Punk follower in all fairness.

Blink 182 put out their new single some days back.

Well this is what I like:

Bought this stuff in the early mid '90s when tapes were outdated, CD's were in, cost was a bomb, and the internet did not exist. So off course nor did torrents. And salary was peanuts.

This hangs in my study. Even if the calendar is old. Got it framed in glass. :)

@A.singh - Back in 2000 when I was in school, a friend handed me 2 cassette tapes

Pink Floyd - Delicate Sound of Thunder [live] - "Yet Another Movie" is such an awesome composition.

Iron Maiden's just released Brave New World, 1st metal album, never looked back.

I still remember playing hrs and hrs of Unreal Tournament w/ Brave New World in the background on my age old stereo system \m/

Never moved beyond the NWBHW. Just a bit..could have. he he.

I remember finding a Dio - BEST OFF in an old street area known as Katraa Neel (Chandi Chowk). Went bezerk.

Post Hardcore ftw

Also; The Melvins, Red Sparowes, Bolt Thrower, Kyuss, Aereogramme, Nevermore, Bloodbath, Cave In, Converge, Edge of Sanity, Spiritual Beggars, Godflesh, High on Fire are some other good ones that could be added to the list.

My first post was my set of recos and wasn't a compendium so not going to modify that any more.

Haven't heard these, new stuff, nice!

Black Math Horsemen

Red Sparowes

Kyuss

Aereogramme

Cave In

Spiritual Beggars

Rage against the machine forever till I die.

Sri Sri Zack de la Rocha is a bhagwan.
Also to not forget Param Pujya guitar mahaguru Tom morello-ji

Yet to hear Riverside, you are the second person to recommended it this week. (the other reco came from outside the forum)

I've always found Riverside to be fairly bland though I've not listened to them much. Btw just saw this Gojira video;

I was browsing the Post and Math rock appreciation thread on Head-fi today. It was then I remembered this thread on TE.

I had to listen to the same test tracks over and over again for the RoCoo-P review. Now that the monkey is off my back, I need some new music to freshen up. Right now, I am trying, more like sampling, some of the bands from the thread linked above. Will take a few listens for me to see if I like any of them. In the mean while....

Which are the best albums of Neurosis, Amon Amarth, Between the Buried and Me and Gojira? I do have some of their albums, but just want to know...

If I like Opeth, Tool, PT, DT, listened a lot of late to Isis (Panopticon and In the Absence of Truth) & Agalloch (Mantle), which other bands should I check out and which album of them to try?

Try Blackfield their self titled album is a good starting point, it is a collaboration project of Steve Wilson [Porcupine Tree] and Aviv Geffen.

Ikuinen Kamoos, a Finnish atmospheric doom metal band, due to Agalloch. Their EP -- Closure is my personal favorite. Also in the same you can look into Woods of Ypres.

Also for djent and thrash --> Meshuggah, Purified in Blood.
