Yes a tiny few of them, can't really recall as I only go onto reddit for r/soccer and that's down only for like 2 days. For the most part this will be forgotten in a week again tbh
Reddit may force 3rd party apps to shut down, asks for $12k api access fees.

Exactly, /mac states clearly that it's temporary, hopefully this fight between platform and users resolves or else those days when internet gets censored is not far.
Edit: Looks like they are removing moderating tools as well so moderators remain for name only.

It's not about reddit, it's the disappearance of discussion spaces, forums, and communities that's bothering me.
Also I'm never going to use Discord. It unequivocally sucks.

Not only it is a mess, you can't search whatever information on discord via any search engine.
And discord keeps asking for phone number for verification. F that.
Reddit mob is always ready to cancel and admonish anyone for even minor infractions and sits on moral high horse. With the kind of standards they apply on others, that site does not deserve to exist.
But, the kind of content they cater is sometimes borderline criminal, till date don't know why they are not got caught in serious court cases.

All the platforms have some fringe elements and propaganda because that's how people are. Most are good, some are bad. Politics is played out in various ways. That doesn't mean nothing should exist.
If going by utility, Reddit serves to its users a much higher value compared to most other platforms. If Reddit shouldn't exist then neither should most of the social media.
But we can all agree that we wouldn't want such a thing happening.

Yeah - it is a function of which subreddits they subscribe to. Stay away from politically charged reddits, and no one will see any of this cancel culture and other BS.

Reddit primary content is political kind in one colored wrap or another creating disgusting level of identity based divisions wherever possible, then nsfw content which is deep, random and borderline criminal for which they got held up few times.
All the while being kind of moral hypocrisy preach sitting on very high horse.
There are indeed some good content subs which sugarcoat on the overall shady show.
They are getting off too easily compared to other social media gaints like FB, GOOG, etc.

And again, politics is not election only. It pervades every aspect of our life, even this discussion is about how to control something, which is inherently political. Identity based divisions are not the product of Reddit but poor political culture. And if divisions are the problem then FB, Twitter are the worst culprits. They in fact flame the fires of division, manipulate masses and subvert the democratic processes, remember Cambridge Analytica?
WRT to your points on porn, how deep and random make anything illegal? You don’t like something, don’t use it, it doesn’t hurt you. Freedom of expression means something after-all.
On criminal acts, if anything Reddit has worked at par with other platforms, if not better to deal with illegal contents. Have they been perfect? Of course not. Twitter and FB both face these problems.
Also, it is common to see most Redditors ranting against the emergence of some fringe elements like Neo-Nazis and other subreddits which promote crime on the platform. Many of such extremist subreddits have be shut down.
The only thing seems to be the problem here is that Reddit is vast and open. It allows people to form communities and discuss things about all of their interests. Some of those interests may not appeal to you.

Such folk exist everywhere. Even here. Makes one think they're paid to make such posts, reducing every topic to a political agenda and deter constructive discussion.
This. Just bookmark and browse only the subs you're interested in and it will filter out 99% of unwanted things.

FB and Twitter are not on the same lines. Reddit at its core works like a forum. Which FB and Twitter don’t.
On putting under legal control, in India, Reddit comes under IT Act regulation, AFAIK.

No one is condoning crimes and telling anyone to look away from crimes. If you read unprejudiced, you will find, I said illegal activities happen everywhere. Crimes are crimes because they happen despite being declared illegal. Reddit suspends, bans, removes illegal contents as frequently as any other platform. That doesn’t mean they can preempt its occurrence. Like on any other platform.
Also, gatekeeping? Is that seriously what upsets you? Not that platforms of people are being systematically destroyed one after the other? Twitter, Reddit and so on? Spaces of free speech are being demolished for power, profit and laughs?

You have provided no substance but only polemics without which your arguments are "hot air". Which is a little annoying TBH.
Why do you keep jumping from one accusation to the other without substantiating any of them? First about crime, then about no legal and POLITICAL control then about Mods. It seems like you hate because you have to. You are making up arguments as you go.
You deflect every argument with another conspiracy. You talk about character and everything about others whether be a site or all those who use it. Generalise to the death of it. Calling diverse users from all over the world authoritarian is just immature thing to say.
Then Your standpoint doesn't acknowledge anything about value but magnifies faults which are the product of human nature which plagues every human creation. Whether be it pursuit of power, inability to digest criticism or accept differences. (This is the response to all your weird conspiracies)
Despite all this, the value exists. It is all about who wants to find it. Many look at the value and acknowledge the flaws and work to alleviate it. So many obscure tech problem solutions are available there. You can learn how to install Mac on your PC, learn to setup NAS. Even explore hobbies and hobbyists, like Photography, new music, etc.
Also what is your spite with Mods? Mods do stupid shit. People IRL do that also that's how we are. They are human like us. Also for the most part, on the most of the subreddits there is no political discourse happening. No one should take Reddit as a political discussion group. What have Painting or Headphones subreddits Or say Kayaking subreddit done anything so called criminal? Also, I am sure a painter could easily enjoy Headphones subreddit, going out of their "sub-bubbles" there. If you think every subreddit is political then you need to sub to different subreddits.
Some of my posts have been deleted by mods on certain subreddits but those handful are not the whole of the reddit in terms of either community or members. I don't take it personally and don't wish that others lose everything of value just because my posts were unreasonably deleted.
My only question to you is: do you think there is anything of value with reddit which needs to preserved?
