Rediff charging 60k for the iphone

what I meant was the in-thing in the techie/g33k community is to bash whatever is popular with the masses

How right you are sir:|

have you seen their sales numbers? ;)

Hey, the world is full of people with lots of time and money to waste. Apple products are for showing off, they have little Practical use.

sorry mate, but you bias clearly sounds like a biased dislike

have you used OS X ever?

as a matter of fact, I haven't. what can I say, It takes more than gloss and wetfloor effects to push me into buying something. I prefer functionality, I'd rather have the so called "Fisher Price" WindowsXP which is universally compatible with everything, rather than a crippled Unix installation with pretty effects. I don't really know what you are trying to prove here; you bought the iPhone, good for you. why are you hellbent on justifying your purchase of iPhone? iPhone isn't curing cancer or helping third-world countries. It's a cellphone, actually, it's a premium cellphone aimed at people who want to look different. you wanted to be exceptional and be different from the norm, you bought the iPhone and again, congratulations for that. but it's stupid and illogical for you to expect [others] to follow the same route.

Oh yeah, us "g33ks" really like bashing stuff that's hot. it's in our blood to oppose the masse. nevermind if the masses are blindfolded fanboys who refuse to see the grey shades...

The word you're looking for is "recommending".

It took a friggin bunch of unix shell scripts to unlock the phone so you don't have to tell me what or who is a g33k...

and there is nothing to be proud abt being a g33k or a nerd....

by your definition, a g33k would always oppose whatever is popular...

and by the way the masses aren't always wrong....

why the hell am I even posting a reply for your answers ..posts from a person who possesses a closed mind!such

i never bashed any platform..i just stated my preferences..dunno why that is bringing out the worst of you

I am getting on your nerves? I wasn't disrespectful, I retorted against your questions and queries. I never asked anyone to justify their purchases, If one likes something, they buy it. the hell with the world. I follow this rule myself. you were going "iPhone pwns everything else" hence I asked why are you hellbent on making iPhone the secondcoming of christ which you took the wrong way.

Closed mind? I consider myself very liberal. so according to you, anyone who's unwilling to just rape their wallets is close minded? I don't purchase Apple products, hence I am close minded? Let's get back into the real world, shall we?

Worst of me? again, I retorted against your points. I never flamed you or called any names. why are you taking everything the wrong way?

uh oh.

ugh..didn't want to drag this any further...

I never went iphone pwns everything else..I just stated that IMHO, the OSX mobile interface and the overall user experience (response times etc) on the iphone is better than what I have seen and experienced on Symbian and far better than what I have seen on Win Mobile

Closed mind? I consider myself very liberal. so according to you, anyone who's unwilling to just rape their wallets is close minded? I don't purchase Apple products, hence I am close minded? Let's get back into the real world, shall we?

A closed mind because it seems you decide to base your opinions (strong ones at that) on what you read up on the net and without even trying to look at opinions objectively by verifying yourself....

You state that you have never tried anything apple, yet have an extremely negative opinion on them

I take it you didn't bother to read it,, so here is a linkie to the review

chill guys .....its a forum and everyone has right to post his views/opinions no one is forcing anyone to buy anything lol ......

Actually I wouldnt mind purchasing an Iphone if it was around 18k. It has an amazing 3.5 inch touchscreen. Nothing can match that screen from either Nokia or any other manufacturer can match that in that price range.

I have had many camera phones before, but I have rarely used the camera for either pics or video recording. And I fail to see how it is a huge premium over other phones. Which phone has 8 GB memory and a 3.5 inch 320 x 480 touchscreen costing ~ 18k ?

I have had a Symbian OS phone and while I used to load it with Apps, I rarely used all of them. In fact the main things I used was the MP3 player for songs, the document viewer for stuff and most of all the internet for which the iphone is best as it has a huge and amazing screen and it has EDGE.

I dont care that it doesnt have 3G as it isnt available in India and will not be available for quite some time.

^Unconfirmed reports - 21K in Heera Panna for the 8GB unlocked.
Will reconfirm and post here tonight.

Also, the new nano, classic and iPod Touch are on store shelves there as well.

21k is a bit high for the phone right now (but far better than paying 60k !) as the N95 is better VFM now for just a little bit more. But if it drops a couple of grand it will be great.

lol i like how some people are trying to say OS X is all about style and XP is a better operating system. i rofl'd so hard my mom thought i was some x-games pro skater.

i know this isn't the thread for it but since someone already started talking about it, i must chime in. i use OS X for work everyday... NOT as a casual OS for surfing and downloading porn. use it for all my video applications and its a million times more stable than XP will ever be. one extremely heavy render of a composite on windows and you can feel it struggle until you reboot. nothing of that sort with OS X. i keep my timelines open for days through multiple renders and it still feels awesome.

sure i've had applications quit on me but i've never had the OS itself getting to the state where i thought "shit i better reboot".

I too have been using Mac OS X Tiger everyday for some years now and we develop one of those major applications that keeps Mac OS alive. Tiger is nowhere close to the stability that Win XP Offers. You would be surprised how many bugs I myself have found in the OS or its programming framework and sent them to Apple.

You would have to program to see how poor the OS is. There are several things that do not work as they should and we have a number of hacks in our own code base to overcome problems with the OS. Many times, the software developers themselves have to overcome the problems with the OS. Whatever stability the OS has comes from its Free BSD codebase. Win XP wouldn't have crashed 5% the number of times Tiger has crashed on our machines. We also got preview copies of Leopard and its no better at the moment.

We never had to do such things with Win XP. Though I have to say Vista is also as poor as Tiger. There are several things broken in Vista. As far as an OS goes, Win XP rules...

I used to work more with my Power Mac than my Windows machine when I had Panther installed. But that stability and performance ended with Panther. Tiger is so shitty that I am using my windows workstation more now.

well then the experience is different for different types of usage i guess. like i said, i do a lot of heavy video editing and compositing on OS X. i've also been owning Macs and using Mac OS since version 7 (when it was called System 7). i've always thought windows was very poor compared to it. my windows pc is about the same configuration as the macs i use at work, but the macs just feel 10x faster.

the only time i thought Mac OS X was not performing well was Cheetah which was lousy and Puma which was a little better but still not good enough. From Jaguar onwards, i've never had any problems and i leave the machines on for days together without feeling any kind of sluggishness or experiencing crashes. in fact, i won't be able to count the number of times the OS has completely crashed... since it's never happened before :) a few application quits here and there.. but that's about it. also, troubleshooting and networking has always been a breeze in my experience... unlike windows.

so maybe its not stable for coding but it definitely is for video/design work and generic usage.
