Reducing Eye Strain due to Monitor

Being.smart

Forerunner
I got a 24-inch LCD LED Backlit monitor for my PC. I sit around 14-15 hr on PC, years before its all good, but now a days after working for 4-5 hours i feel little bit strain in eyes and feels sleepy too
<

Any solution to reduce strain from it ?

* My room is well lit and i had set the brightness to 0

Use software like Dimmer it will further reduce the brightness. How much far are you sitting from the monitor? Get a Bluetooth KB & mouse for sitting further away from the monitor . Are you gaming or just word processing and internet?

I believe it is just temporary fatigue. I too experience it sometimes. It goes away on its own.
<

BTW, who is the guy in your profile picture??

I sit approx 1.5 feet away from screen, whole time i was busy in typing and internet browsing no gaming, sitting more far away from monitor will make font even smaller which will strain eyes even more, since its a 1080p screen

You can increase the DPI, thats what i DID, and use some tinted glasses, also visit a doctor , its better to ask a doctor rather than an engineer

Right click on desktop ->screen resolution . Select make text and other items smaller or larger -> Set custom DPI (last option in left side sidebar of the window)

Did you see this? -> http://www.gunnars.com/

Got some good reviews -> http://www.amazon.com/Call-Duty-ProGaming-Not-Machine-Specific/dp/B0043M5T5M/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1329323819&sr=1-1

what you should also do is buy polarized anti glare glasses.. the lightest shade that you can get your hands on. it will block out all the rays really just penetrating through your eyes and kind of diffuses the light.. so eyes are much more relaxed..

Other small tips:

keep the wallpaper of your comp. as dark as possible. if you dont mind, just keep it black.. this way, for all the time that you are looking at the main desktop area, your screen wont light up like a tubelight. if you are windows 7, disable all the eye candy animations, glass effect, transparency effect.. etc..

and about your room being well lit, what also creates a problem is the room being too well lit. and most above all, the bulb or tubelight is placed such that it is directly reflecting on your screen. you should always make sure that no such reflections are occuring and all the light is diffused light on your screen..

if the room is too well lit, and with todays crystal brightview screens, reflections tend to be seen on the screen like a mirror which should not happen.. this causes strain on the eyes.. your eyes automatically try to focus on any object you are looking at. when you start looking at reflections on the screen as well as the text on it, the eyes gets confused as to what to set focus on..

if you wanna test this phenomeno,

keep a small object close enough to your eyes so that you can set focus on it.. but keep it such that you can see the object and background simultaneously.. slightly on the side.. and see what happens.. in about a few seconds, the eyes will switch between the focal distance.. stay like this for some time and see if the eyes feel tired or not..

Also, get your eyes checked if they need any error correction.. you say that you've been using a computer for such long hours regularly. it may not come as a surprise that you may finally need glasses for focal error correction..

Even i am an animator, and work on the computer for very long hours.. these are some tricks i have used of my own accord and experience and found them helpful.. a basic sitting posture also determines in how much time your eyes start feeling tired.. and always make sure you've had enough sleep.. never work on a comp. with fatigued eyes.. this will ruin your eyes very very quickly.. try this too. after you feel very sleepy, keep using the comp. for another 2 hrs.. and then try to look at some other LED display or written text and see whether you have difficulty focusing on it or not.. its because the eyes literally get tortured if made to work once they are sleep deprived and fatigued.. its like your camera running out of battery and the focus motor struggling to keep up with your creativity.. heheh.

It's is a noble thing to do (helping the poor/needy) and I applaud you for that. Though I have a few suggestions for you:

  • The group name sounds demeaning to the poor. If you are actually serious about helping, you should look into revising it.
  • Using someone's picture as your profile picture is not a good idea even if he would never see it. Also, it might serve as a subject of humor who is not aware of your intentions.

I hope you'd take my comments in a positive light and try to act on them.

My Second point still holds:

Using someone's picture as your profile picture is not a good idea even if he would never see it.

Nice DP btw. Reminds me of a friend who had 3 dogs once upon a time. One of them was just like yours.

^^ If the wallposts on this group is an indication of the help you are extending to the needy, I really don't like the idea!

You are actually making fun of the poor...
