I'm confused again :(

So i need to get a router and not a router modem?

--- Updated Post - Automerged ---

So I found a few routers. Here are the links on ebay.

1. Belkin Wireless G - 3 Year warranty - Rs 1349 or Rs 1149 - 3 Year Warranty or Rs 1350 - 5 Year Warranty (Question: Why such a variation?)
2. Asus RT-G32 - Rs 1150 - 3 Year Warranty
3. Netgear WGR614 - Rs 1470 - 2 Year Warranty
4. Belkin N150 - Rs 1450 - Lifetime Warranty (apparently)

Which one would you advise?

Why a router modem now? :S

Did Reliance provide a modem? I hope this is how their net connection line is - telephone line > modem > Ethernet cable.

Why not just get the N router and be done with it? Just as you said before, you can use that script and use it to connect it thru the web login. :)

I faintly recall my roomie used to have such a script on the notepad and used to execute it using windows scheduler.

Sorry, I'm not into coding at all. Do I have to save it in notepad with a py extension and run it by scheduling it? Or do I have to install something to run python scripts?

Unzip the attached file, open .py file with word pad and replace user name and password and put it on a task scheduler. If it doesn't work download python. its free so no issues there.

I am looking for a router cum modem too as I have severe power cuts here in Gurgaon. I am on Reliance and I am use the weblogin till now. I want to be able to share my connection between my PC and laptop. Also, I am looking for a router cum modem as it will save some battery on my UPS incase of a powercut and I frankly don't want two devices with 2 power plugs and more wires.

@mjumrani

Thanks for sharing that script for login. Will try it soon.

Bump! Tried contacting the Reliance customer care but to no avail. A CC executive called me twice, one from Bombay and another from Ahmedabad. One of them said that they do not offer such plans in my area whereas previously another CC exe. had verified the pin code and assured me that the service IS available. I do not know what is taking them so much time to tell me if I could avail a frigging connection. :\

I wanted to opt for the Combo 600+ Night^ Booster top up plan. If it doesn't work out, I'd be opting for the Night Booster Zoom 1 plan.

What I had to do was clone the mac address in the router settings. then I was able to use the router to connect my PC and laptop.

Hey guys yesterday i inquired about reliance wireline.

When i asked them about wifi they said that they will disable web based login system for me and then i would have no problem in using wifi.

Ok Here is 100% working solution for you --

First connect your Wireless router to your PC (no internet at this point) , you need to setup following in your Router --

1. Disable DHCP

2. Disable any DNS service or anything else.

3. Configure your wireless SID and Security.

Also if default ip of router and modem are same you need to change that for either of device. (say both have 192.168.1.1 as defualt Ip then change that of wireless device to 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.2.1) assign your PC similar IP and then configure Wireless device.

Now disconnect wired connection and try connecting to modem in wireless mode, it should now connect to SID and ask for password, you are connected to Wireless access point in wireless mode but can not transfer any file as there won't be any compatible IP assigned.

Now connect your Reliance modem / rj45 cable to one of LAN Port in Wireless modem (remember lan port and not wan port)

Switch off all modem & Router.

Power on reliance Modem, then after sometime power on Wireless router

Now connect your Wireless device to your wireless network, you need to configure your wireless device to get configuration setting from Reliance modem

How it works --

By doing this your wireless router is now working in normal router mode as any other router work it simply routes incoming connection to other lan port and wireless devices attached without assigning any IP

Cons of this setup --

You can not connect to your router web interface unless you connect your IP in same range as of Routers IP

I am using my wireless router in same mode for last 3 years without any problem

I have faced the same issue with reliance. Used the connetion for 15 days only.(got the connection on 4th of this month, closed it 2 days back. Now have taken a 756 kbps with excel media 750PM,including tax plan)

Reliance offer the static IP ( with out login option),only when you pay 2k per year or you have limited usage plan. As per their business rules, you need to log off properly.Even if you keep system ideally for 30 min, you will get logged off. Torrent downloads over night do not work with this plan.
Setting up WIFI:Reset your router to Factory defaults and then try the otain IP,Obrain DNS dynamically.. Then it should work for you ( you have to login through only one machine).

Could you be a bit more specific with the plan you had opted for? I suppose most of them would be preferring such a connection for uninterrupted downloads over the day and night.

@jalanbk: What plan are you using?

I opted for combo 750 plan. Morning 750kbps, nights 1MBps.

The issue is this system needs you to log off properly each time properly when you shutdown the machine (This will be problem, if there is no UPS )

Also If you keep your machine Ideal for 30 min, system will log you off.

In both the above cases, when you try to login back, you get a message Your previous session was terminated Abruptly. Please click here to termiate.-->when you terminate this giving answer to your secret question, you get message that session is successfully logged off.. But you will not be able to login again atleast for 30 min ( Max could be 6hrs).
