Ok...well I'm seeing patni computers in around 3 kms from Capgemini...I think it's manageable...anyways...I will look in Sector 6 and 7. Thanks for input guys.

What crap !! There is no need to learn Marathi. You can easily survive without it.

Mumbai is not like cities in the south, where they will talk to you in their local language.

That is the reason i hate south India. Why do they expect everyone to know their language. It's high time they learn some Hindi- the official language of India. (m not saying 'national' language...don't start a war on it)

There is absolutely no problem if you don't know Marathi. He meant it sarcastically, regarding certain political parties who don't like 'outsiders'.

Well in Karnataka, people understand Hindi a little bit...so I didn't face any problem...I don't think I'll face any problem in Mumbai too....

Viralbug's right. We dont talk in Marathi at Mumbai \ Navi mumbai meets :P You should join in as well !

But make sure to learn few basic phrases of Marathi would help a long way :) I was in Pune for 2 yrs and I would say am missing marathi :(

From the underline part, I'm assuming that you've never lived in Bangalore?

And don't even get me started on "It's high time they learn some Hindi" - you just can't expect everyone to speak one language. That part of your post amuses me to the point of not considering it worthy of a reply :D

I am relocating from Bangalore to Mumbai. I have few queries about Mumbai which are below:

1. My office is in Airoli. I want to live in Powai area. I would be using public transportation. So I wanted to know if it's feasible or not? How much time will it take to reach Airoli from Powai?

2. How to find a good flat for rent in Mumbai? I would prefer 1 room kitchen or 1BHK flat. I have seen he average price for this kind of flats is 8-10k. Is there any cheap area near Powai/Airoli?

Please answer my queries? :)
I live in Airoli and I travel to Kandivili for work. I know what kind of nightmare I face while travelling. The worst traffic on Airoli - Seepz link is in Powai. Living in Powai is more costlier than living in Airoli. (about 5 times)
Airoli has cheap accomodation, but for outsiders it may be boring and the tiffin food is terrible. There are lot of good Udupi hotels in here but then they are costly.
Try to find accomodation in Navi Mumbai itself. Navi Mumbai is very comfortable for travelling and living. It is much cleaner and better than Mumbai. There are no traffic jams like Mumbai in Navi Mumbai. NMMC and CIDCO has done a very good job. The only annoying thing you may find in Navi Mumbai is electricity cuts. Even though Navi Mumbai comes under Zero Load Shedding model, the buggers cut off electricity at their whim.

FYI Capgemini is just outside Airoli station. The easiest way you can reach is by staying in Navi Mumbai itself. My recommendations would be Airoli, Ghansoli and Vashi. Dont even think of living in Thane, Mulund or Powai. It will be costly, tedious and most importantly stupid, which you will realize later.

Hey Guys, I reached Mumbai yesterday. Welcomed by Mumbai rains. It's too much humid over here. Anyways I went to Airoli area and looked for flats...I didn't find any good ones...the buildings were pretty old...some flats in Sector 20 were okayish...I would still prefer Airoli...but in addition to Airoli...I am also considering Vashi and Koparkhairne now...are there flats/apartment easily available in these areas? How is commute between Airoli and Vashi?

I believe your office is just outside the Airoli station, or maybe 5 mins walk.. consider koparkhairne/vashi/sanpada, somewhere near to station...

I believe Ghansoli will be a good option for you. Vashi will be too costly compared to Airoli/Ghansoli/Koparkhairne.
AFAIK the new buildings are there in sector 19, 20. But the best bet will be sector 8,7,6.

Hi Guys, I just got settled in Mumbai...living in Juinagar...close to Vashi...love this area...Navi Mumbai rocks...I was near HiraNandani Garden, Powai for 1 week and I din't like the place at all...it was all dirty and old buildings...I was cursing Mumbai...but when I reached Vashi...my heart filled with joy...it's nice, clean and green place...I love it simply... :)

^ Aaaah nice to see another Navi Mumbai guy :D We can now have a nice Navi Mumbai meet with ease !

FaH33m and viralbug...in next meet i'm coming for sure :). Thanks a lot guys for your suggestions and helping me out. TE really rocks :)
