Introduction

So at last i bought my first pocket PC, I don't know y but they call it a pocket PC so i am also using the same. These days Finger touch screen devices are very popular, it all started with the Apple iPhone and after that LG prada. Actaully these devices better than the regular touch screen devices in which you have to use stylus. you have to use stylus in this device too but not that frequently. Anyways getting back to the review 2-3 week back i didn't even considered HTC to my options list. actually i didn't even knew much about this company. i was 100% sure that i am going to buy a Nokia N95. but then i came to know about this model and one evening while coming from office, i thought of just checking the device. i went to the shop and asked for it, i got the usual ok-you-are-a-g33k look from the shop attendent lol . when i got the phone in my hand i was a very surprized with the size and looks, it was much smaller than the size i thought, looking at various pics on the web. next thing was the display i was quit stunned by the clarity :D. i just used the phone for 5 mins then she asked credit card or cash and i given her the credit card without any second thoughts lol. and i am telling u guys i didn't went there for buying the phone it was not on my mind not even 1 percent lol.

This phone is launched in collabration with airtel so it works only with airtel sim. You don't have to bother about the trarif plans it works with any airtel sim. but this can be easily unlocked for any other sim. as my cousin bought the same and got it unlocked and its working fine with hutch. Although he paid a hefty amount for it. but even you can unloack it if u know how to use google :P.

Phone came in excellent packing which makes it look quite more expensive that it is lol. The phone come in a black matt finish box. Inside the box you will find-

1: The Phone :P

2: Charger

3: USB cable

4: Extra stylus

5: A pretty big manual :-/

6: Getting started manual -- microsoft style lol

7: Nice pouch (no belt pouch tho :( i am still seaching for it but can't find anything that fits)

8: Warranty card

9: Screen guard (very good quality and of exact size :D )

10: Headphone/handsfree

11: 1GB microSD card

Design

The phone is of very small size and with matt finish, so it is not prone to finger marks. I guess this is one of the smallest pocket PC out there. it can be easily put into the pocket and you don't have to have a belt pouch. It will be hardly notisable in the front jeans pocket. The device is having a chrome finish on the sides and on the Dpad, which looks pretty good with the matt black color.

Front has two buttons make/receive and end call. in the middle there is a Dpad(which i don't remember using in past 1 week :-/ ). On the top there is the grill for speaker on the both sides of the grill there are two dual color LEDs. which can blink for four different funtions like network/bluetooth/wifi etc. On the top there is a on/off button, i don't know y but there is no shut down option in the start menu. On the right edge of the top there is space for stylus. Left side has a slider for incresing and decresing volume in various applications in the phone. On the right there is camera shutter button and space for sim and MicroSD card. Although for replacing them u have to remove the back cover. On the botton there is a mini USB kinda slot. This slot is used in many HTC devices. This is used for charging the device/data transfer/headphone.

One main flaw in the device is no 3.5mm jack :(. Anyways i am not planning to use it as a Mp3 player so it doesn't bother me much. but it wud have been a nice addition :).

Screen

It comes with 2.8" screen which covers most of the front part of the phone. good thing is screen is almost on the same level as the phone front surface so no dust particles on the edges. clarity and brightness is good but its not as bright as some nokia phones in the day light. screen bright has 5 levels of adjustment and can also be controlled throught typical windows power management ie on battery/power. If the phone is on very low battery ii swtiches of the light automatically, nothing new i think and most of the windows mobile devices come with this feature. The screen also feels little spongy, i don't know how to describe is but it but i feel more comfortable using my finger rather than stylus (no pun intended :P ). the only time i miss stylus is while typing some text.

Using it

Ok this is the most fun part :D. Phone comes with touch-flo software from HTC. i think describing it in words wud be little difficult so i am attaching a video of touch-flo to give you guys the real picture :P. here is the video enjoy

YouTube - HTC Touch

HTC has modified the desktop of the windows mobile 6 and added some extra feature to it. yeah it is little memory hogger but good applications and can give u some good info on the front of the screen. you can call it as side bar of the windows Vista. not that fancy but somewhat related.

again another video for that.

YouTube - HTC Touch

Handwriting recognition is again very impressive. just 15 mins using the phone and i was a pro in handwriting recognition :D. never used the keyboard on the mobile. and its very userfriendly i have used the phone for MSN messange chats for as long as 3-4 hours without any problems. and sometimes it actually feels easiler than typing on the keyboard :D.

another video :P

Camera

It comes with 2MP camera which is upgraded version 2MP camera used in earlier HTC phone. camera was the last thing in my mind while purchasing a phone. so, far i have used the camera for 2-3 times that too just to chk that it works or not lol. Anyways its a normal cam without any auto focus or flash. pics are average in quality. i will post some images later.

Battery life

Battery life is better than wat i expected. it lasts for 2 days for me which includes 30 mins of wifi, normal calls no long talks :P, some net thru bluetooth and 5-6 SMS. no GPRS. anyways it not as great as the nokia phones.

Performance

Being a windows mobile 6 phone with only 200Mhz processor many people said it will be slow but actully its not. but i think its little low on ram which is 64MB i guess. sometimes using multiple application result in sluggish performance and most of the time its the ram. its better if u restart the phone after 2-3 days of usuage. anyways for normal use i don't think its slow. once i felt it while using google earth/map with MP3 playing in the background it took a little more time to come back to the desktop when i closed the google earth application. IMO windows mobile 6 has many software built in it so theres not much need for the third party application. and i am also waiting for some custom hacked OS for this :D.

Conclusion

Overall its a very nice tiny gadget and quit a practical device :) . but there are some drawbacks like no 3G, no 3.5mm jack etc. also accessing the sim card and memory card slot is little tough. but it has a very small form factor. very good UI for non stylus usage. very good screen. another good thing i noticed is the internet sharing through PC no i am not talking about phone sharing net to PC but the otherway around. when i connected it to PC through bluetooth net was automatically shared to the phone which i never suceeded doing with any nokia phone so far i have owned. even if u connect the phone to the PC with USB net gets shared. actually its good if u don't have any wifi or GPRS and want to update some phone software or anything.

PS: its 3 in the nyt and i am feeling very sleepy so if there are any mistakes please tell me :).

Theres a scaling mode in the program.. underclocks when phone is idle, overclocks when u start a program.. no threatening disadvantages except shorter battery life.. anyway the advantages pwn the disadvantage(s)

So , do you people keep your phone always in overclocked mode or only when you are running 2-3 applications simultaneously ?
Are they any threatening disadvantages to keep the phone overclocked in the long run ?

actually i never needed it to run it overclocked ... overclocked it and run it for day or so ....... now i am on stock :)

nice review / pics... only this line needs to be deleted : "it all started with the Apple iPhone and after that LG prada" as htc has been making these ppc mobiles since 2003...
