I am planning to install XP SP3 2day...bfore that i would like to know is XP SP3 officially released ??????? or is it still in its testing and RC stages ?

And those of u who have installed and tried out the OS please give me ur reviews and opinions on the OS...

Are there any significant improvements or changes in the OS???? The service pack i got is an .exe file and can be installed without formatting the existing Win XP SP2..

SP3 is just a bunch of updates to Windows XP.

IT IS NOT A NEW OS :)

It has been released to manufacturers.. meaning, its no longer in testing/rc stages. this is the final version of the same.

i just abt finished installing it. simple 5 minute process. there wont be anything radically different for an enduser to immediately take note off. it will however enhace your security by fixing a lot of bugs and stuff.

All service packs are distributed as .exe files and u need not format your existing OS to apply the updates contained within the service pack

one more question....shud i backup any data bfore installing SP3 ????? And after installing does it modify any existing program files and applications??????????

nope.. jus double click on exe.. sit back.. wait for it to finish.. restart system once its done. nd ur good to go.

whoopsie.. guess i did a booboo there.. got hte link from elsewhere... thought it was sp3.. installed... a lil bit of googling now indeed tells me that it wasnt sp3.. but sp3rc2.. damn..

vlk = volume license key.. what you get in offices/colleges... single key.. multiple installs.. no activation :D

also the most misused type out there...

oh, k. nz, ll use it after a disk image then :P

i think it ll have the WGA component too as part of the pack, so ll cause hell after installation on a non-genuine system, no?

i did a clean install of XP SP3 from a slipstreamed iso file last nite...was pretty much similar to regular XP...havent used it much except installing the pc drivers n all...but i guess u can just install the SP3 over an ahem version of SP2 too...u might just need to change the Product key of ur windows version before installing SP3 at the max...

The link above shows the same size as RC2 of SP3. So basically, there are no changes from RC2 to RTM?

the RC2 was build 5503 or 5508 i guess...the RTM is build 5512...not much of a diff i guess...but its better to have the RTM anyways :)

the real SP3 wud be

#Size: 316mb (331,805,736 bytes)

#MD5: BB25707C919DD835A9D9706B5725AF58

#SHA-1: C81472F7EEEA2ECA421E116CD4C03E2300EBFDE4

chk for the above once u get it..

It wont make a noticeable difference to an average user. But at definitely fixes a lot of bugs and security issues.

Softpedia release is the real Final Release of XP-SP3!
