Hi All.

Its been long since I changed my riding gear. I only believed in Good Helmets and any generic jacket(I use Slazenger one for rainy days and woodland one for chilly and summer :D). But now looking for a proper one, should server for my daily use and for long drives. :D :D :D

This time I am looking to purchase the following

1. Riding Jacket (Should be very much water proof, chilly weathers, airy in warm summer, ample protection)
2. Riding Gloves (Same requirements as above)
3. Helmet

For the Jacket I checked the DSG, RJays, Cramster.

1. DSG Nero Jacket
2. RJays JetStream 2
3. Cramster Breezer, but i am not gonna get this.

For the Gloves.

1. DSG Acqua Waterproof

For the helmet.

1. Daijya G-Fit Dragon Helmet

I will only go for Black,Red, White combo colors or Just Black.

Price point, is like 15k for all the items together. Also I plan to purchase online. anyone got their items from PlanetDSG.com?? I know they are teh xBHP partner or something. But dunno anyone who has bought from them. All the people i know believe in the 500Rs helmet rule. :). Yup even the ones with Classic 500, CBR 250, Duke 200. :scared14::unsure::annoyed:

Any suggestions and views, very welcome.

You have landed on the typical "budget" riding gear combo :D

Some points

1. At this price point no jacket that you get will be completely waterproof (regardless of brand). So my suggestion is to get a summer mesh jacket (if you intend to go to cold places then look for one with a thermal liner) and wear a proper waterproof rain gear over it (Duckback or Royal Enfield's rainsuit)

2. Don't skimp on the helmet, at the very least get an ISI certified one, better if you go for a higher spec one (like the dajiya).

3. I have bought riding boots from DSG (offline), but they are a legit store, buy without fear :)

4. As cool as dark colours look, I recommend a more visibile colour combo - blue/white etc as your visibility vis a vis others on the road increases.

5. Also get the cramster knee guards - only 1500 and they do protect your knee on impact - I have personally crash tested a cramster jacket, the knee guards.

6. Dajiya is fine, but I was able to procure a KBC for ~6.5k via ProBiker, so look into that as well.

I use Fieldsheer mesh jacket,in case of rain i wear raincoat on top of that :),its better than having waterproof jackets which ll be difficult to use in summers.Couple of my friends using DSG jackets,its good i can say :)

Nope. 2 jackets is not an option for me. I just want one. I already have excellent individual jackets. And also an armor jacket. So according to u guys I already have the best combo. :)

This exercise is to get all in one.

No such thing as a stand alone water proof riding jacket. I personally found Rjays Octane a steal at its price point.

Ehhh???

I have personally seen and used few of them. :S. Nothing in my budget though. And one or two that was from US and China. So cant get it. :S :S

I would suggest LS2. I've been using and its the best when it comes to ventilation. i own LS2 phobia.

I also have DSG Nero, and I can swear by it. offers best rain protection but tends to get hot in summers, opening all the zippers allows some ventilation but still it gets a little hot.

gloves: I had GPR leather gloves which cover upto wrist. something like this
I also suggest you to go for a good tank bag if you are into long rides.

DSG guy is very nice and professional. After you pay money he will call you and stuff.
cramster is an a$$hole, had a very bad experience.

I own an LS2 for over a year now and the experience is second to none but do make sure you get extra visors when you purchase the helmet. I found the RJays Apex helmet to be a very good helmet @ 4k.

@boo.

Summers I think I can adjust with others. If the Nero is good for rain and then its good by me. Any idea bout the DSG maze jacket?

Really cramster is that bad?? Dear God. My second eldest brother is a seasoned biker or Thumper. :D. He swears by cramster and AStar. Actually i saw his last ride, around 100 guys were there.
Most were sporting Cramster and AStar. Few DSG. Cramster jackets..bags..etc. Anyways I didnt like the breezer so no.

Btw. I should also ask him before buying this. :D :D

u used the DSG website?
@sunny

I have used Daijya Helmet for 4 years, its just ok... Nuvo helmets are better, apparently Nuvo is premium brand of LS2 helmets...

Aqua gloves are strictly for rainy season n provide less protection... Check out DSG Vector or Primal gloves, they can be used in rainy season and will last you well... My primal gloves lasted 3 yrs. Using vector gloves now, they fit better!

LS2 is made by Vega in India and is available in most helmet stores. Get a Balaclava as well. Visors for the LS2 are worth Rs.400 for the clear visors and Rs.450 for the reflective visors. Also do keep in mind that if safety is important to you, pick up a helmet with a D-ring Chin Strap (http://www.google.co.in/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ix=h9&ie=UTF-8#hl=en&output=search&sclient=psy-ab&q=d%20ring%20chin%20strap&oq=&gs_l=&pbx=1&fp=32fe3bdc6a111e25&ix=h9&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.&biw=1920&bih=933). it offers a more snug fit and better protection if you have an accident. I know I walked away from two accidents with my LS2 and a d-ring chin strap.

Sorry for large pics.. but thought i can suggest/share few purchases i made recently.

in april i had bought following combo..

Helmet : Sol Helmet sl68s 2 - Orange Metal man one. for 4.5k
Full Face - SOL Helmet India

Its very good and i like it very much. Very well ventilated, awesome graphics and very stable at speeds above 100. Just love it.

Riding Jacket : Spartan Pro Gear jacket. Helios jacket for 5.5k

Its a pure mesh jacket with a rain liner inside. I find it pretty useful in chennai weather as without rain liner its very breathable. But the quality of mesh isnt that good. On excessive use the mesh begins to wear fast. I am not sure how many years the jacket will last. May be max 2 years from now on.

Riding Gloves : Again it were the Spartan gloves very similar to Cramster TRG 2 gloves for 2.5k
Riding Gloves, TRG2 - Racing Gloves - Full Gauntlet

Riding boots : Orazo Picus : 2.6k
::Orazo::

They are trade off. But offer decent protection and at the same time are wearable to office as they look quite formal. I use them whenever i take my bike to office and am pretty happy with it.

well, I had an accident at 100kmph and I was wearing dsg nero and gpr full gauntlet gloves. I did a superman for around 20mts, helmet was gpr too i guess. the jacket took a lot of beating but it saved me. the gloves were a little tight on my palms and wrists and since the gloves were full gauntlet type with a strap around the wrist, they actually saved my wrists from fracture. I was able to stand on my feet immediately after this and only had a minor ligament tear in my right wrist. thats why I was suggesting the full gantlet type gloves.

about the jacket; I rode in the worst possible scenarios wearing these jacket+gloves combo. dsg nero offers the best rain protection. especially if you have valuable things like phone and wallet which you want to protect from rain. all the zippers have covers so that rain doesnt seep in through them. the jacket also has a thermal lining so that you can take a ride in places like himalayas.

for boots, I would suggest the army boots which cost something like 800 and look like orazos. they are soo safe that even if you put your leg on a land mine probably nothing will happen :) especially they have very good support aroud the ankles so that you dont twist them easily. awesome in rains and near zero temps. lots of grip when you have to push your bike through ice.

about the cramster; we had a bad exp when we were trying to purchase some stuff worth 20k. that guy was behaving like an arrogant a$$hole. and my tank bag's strip was torn on my first trip which caused a lot of headache for the rest of my trip. so quality is also so so for the premium he charges. zippers also tend to jam easily and dont have rain protection around them. all in all, I dont have many good things to share about cramster.

AStar (Alpine Star) is an international brand and is like Radeon HD 7990. no one can have a bad feedback about them.

@devesh38

What I have
Jacket : I strongly suggest RJays Octane. worth the extra cost. very good quality mesh jacket and the rain liner is very good too.
or you can go for DSG Maze.

Knee guards : Axo . buy them from shopclues.com nice rates. local shops in , Mumbai are selling them at higher rates.
http://www.shopclues.com/axo-riding-gear-imported-elbow-and-knee-guard-set-of-4-pc.html

balaclava : any nice one. just don't buy the one with metal wire near nose area. Shopclues.com has a good one ( not genuine A*)
http://www.shopclues.com/alpinestars-open-face-balaclava-black.html
shoes : army shoes from Juna bazaar, Pune.

Gloves: DSG primal, It should be tight fitting for the leather will expand after regular use.
Also buy a cheaper pair of gloves for city use. eg MX3 from cramster
or http://www.shopclues.com/pro-biker-riding-gloves-black-large-clone.html (not recommended, but better than nothing if budget doesn't allow MX3)
(I know ATGATT, but it's not practical to wear full gauntlet when you go to super market or movies)
knight_hood_GLOVES_half.jpg strict no-no

Helmet : Daijya is good.
he strap should be like this 122302747_1209508206edaf05e5020be92481c2086c28f0dccd0211d74.jpg

@geek.ashish

Octance is too costly for me. Pushing the budget too high. hence not going for them. :( :(
