Trying to buy a gaming rig on low-med budget. Zooming on the following specs, any comments/advise much appreciated

P45 or G45 mobo - I find MSI has a P43 mobo which is cheaper about 1.5k, is it worthwhile?
E7400
9600GT based graphics card

Get Giga G31 2.3k + E5200 3.5k + GTX 260 Core 216 13.5k, same damage as above setup, but for gaming 3x faster. E5200 has 12.5 Multi, U can OC to 3.8+ on G31 mobo.

Thanks..is E7400 o/c'able also? Want C2D because need to use for other apps too, so CPU power is good to have.. GTX260 look so high end! How much less perf. is 9800?

What your total budget?

Go for Performance chipsets instead of G series chipset if you are going for Gfx card

plz dont splurge on ur mobo. Gigabyte G31 @ rs. 2.3k is an excellent performer

Supports all ddr2s, all LGA 775, n OCs very well.

I wud recommend a e7400 with a Nvidia 9800GT (6.4k) or GTX 260 Core 216(13.5k) if u can extend budget and provided tht u have atleast a 21" monitor.

Minus the E5200, get the E7400, a better aftermarket cooler (like the TRUE/SCCF 120) and OC it to 4G+. For 25k, guess you cant ask for more. :P

Is the processor, motherboard and the gfx card all that you need for 25~30k?

Phenom 720BE + Gigabyte 780G mobo- 12.5k

4GB RAM-2K

500GB HDD- 3K

CM 334- 2K

Corsair VX450-3.6K

Speakers, mouse and keyboard - 1.5k

512MB Radeon HD4670- 4.8k

Monitor not mentioned since you asked for that.

Edit: If you need the troika only, throw everything else and get the 720BE, 780G mobo and HD4870.

I wud recommend the same config but with

Intel e7400 + Gigabyte G31 mobo = 8.2k
MSI GTS250 512MB = 9.2k

Better yet,
Phenom 720BE - 7.5K
MA74GM-S2 - 3.1K
Palit HD4850 512MB - 8.4k

Thanks for all the tips guys..I am not looking at AMD not because of any negative reasons, but simply 'cause things are confusing enough already :-( with so many choices.

Budget is for entire rig minus monitor. I will probably spend around 10k on that if I get good Samsung 20-22" piece.

The gaming side of it is for my kid to play games, the rest is for me to use for business, so i can't low-ball other aspects to pay for the graphics..ha ha after all I am the one paying, not him :-)

Sato1986 would you still say g31 is enough?

OK..G31 it is..I will settle for the G31+7400+9800 combo,..

with this one, should I limit myself to 19" or can I buy 22" I mean will the 9800 take it?

No..25+10k...actually i can exceed that if makes long term sense not just for splurging..

Looking at this collection now

G31+7400+9800

4GB DDR2 RAM (this is where i have some lingering concern abt. g31 because cannot add more than 4GB)

CM chassis low end like 334 + CM PSU not sure which one yet.

500GB HDD, DVD writer,

Monitor - 19-22" depending on cost, only Samsung unless some spl. offer on other good brand..

Well thats the limitation with G31 chipset... And AFAI heard 4GB is not mandatory and useless, even for any demanding multimedia applications and for games.. So dont worry about that part..

Get atleast Zebronics Pro M550W(dunno the price)/VX450W for 3.6k/CM EP500W for around 2.7k..Or PowerSafe Silver 500W for 1.7k
