There is a random shutting issue with Captivate - you can find the link on the first link of Captivate IC thread.
Yea i'd read about that issue, within the affected IMEI range, and again not for all units like its been mentioned. But apart from that there are no other issues right? (like Soulfire is referring to :S)

was jus kiddin when i said so many issues , dont take it seriously , they are both good phones, pick whichever you get a better deal on :)

I'm on Serendipity 5.5 - using it for last 5-6 days. Pretty good and stable. BTW this is the only ROM that I tried.

BTW do you people find the in call volume of Captivate a bit low?
My quadrant score with the Serendipity 5.8 is 1691 with the speedmod kernel.

Haven't tried any other ROM as this seems to be pretty stable and fast.

Anybody faced the low in call volume issue?

Update for Captivate Users:

If you have CWM Recovery Installed.

download I9088ZNKP1_CWM.zip and apply zip for the best modem.

Source

Best In call volume

Best Battery Life

Best Data speed

You will have to powercycle device 2-3 times after flash if it doesn't give you better data speed right after flash.

This one is actually modem for captivate unlike others which were for i9000

GPS Fix for faster locking and tracking:

Adams_GPS_Fix.zip (Flash from CWM Recovery)

Solution to your problem posted.

what clocks are you on?

1GHz by default or over that?

Also, please post benchies that you get after 3rd consecutive run of the respective bench.

/system on ext4 ?

if not, then do so (but you hav to convert /system back to rfs before every other rom upgrades or change.

Overall speed maynot increase but ext4 is adviced over rfs for low wearing of flash.

you may feel low battery performance.

charge to 100%% and use until completely drained.

repeat 2 times.

do so whenever you flash a different kernel/modem as it takes time for battery stats to update.

gonna try serendipity 5.10 + speedmod k13b now.

Thanks for suggestion.

updated OP.

currently on Serendipity 5.10 + SpeedMod kernel k13b

not sure if it converts /system to ext4 by default.. (is it?)

quadrant is now 1746 after a few run.

will be flashing new modem, gps fix and my favorite black n white theme (better battery performance :p)

Ya, I read that thread.

I was using JK4 from start. Just flashed KP1 a few hours back. It seems that the voice clarity was better with JK4 - will have to give it a few days before any final conclusion. So, I'll continue with KP1 for a few days and see.

download and install Captivate SGS Tools (4.5)

Start it.

Go under secret Codes.

Select Band Selection.

Tap WCDMA > WCDMA All

similarly for GSM Bands

Tap GSM BAND > GSM ALL

powercycle device.

report back.

Anyone know if the micro USB to HDMI out works for the Captivate/Vibrant? It had been disabled for the US phones due to some DRM issues, and only works on the i9000 Galaxy S. If that is possible i was considering getting the micro USB to HDMI cable (at a sane price though, currently they're selling for $50 on ebay!).

Another option is the 3.5mm to Composite out cable. You lose the ability to output HD and quality is probably suspect but its atleast something. These are selling for like $2 on Dealextreme
