cognition 4 doesnt have that and neither the stock rom, however serendipity have that option in menu but its keyboard is too buggy and have an ugly layout :( , is thr anyway i can enable that option in cognition?

i tried KP1, speeds are too much improved, getting 7mbps down and 4mbps ups but cant hear calls :(, i read somewhere that kernel and modem combination is to be done for some modem's to work, if so can any1 suggest me a good combi ?

Finally figured the correct combination of ROM+KERNEL+MODEM, for me it is

COGNITION 4 + Hardcore Speedmode Kernel + KP1

So many mods on android really is confusing but amazing as well I was so used to ios now the learning journey begins

the 1st post is regularly updated for the top combinations, please check.

the kernel with voodoo headhones amp have options to change output levels for those who are not happy with default.

Also, please input your feedback whenever you try a different ROM/Kernel/Modem; be it good, bad or average.

This will save others a considerable amount of time in testing.

COGNITION 4 + Hardcore Speedmode Kernel + KP1

Faster Battery Drain, No lags without any lagfixes, good gps reception, fast UI, no bugs till now in rom, awesome modem for more speed, mainly HSPA, getting 7mbps down and 4mbps up with kp1 whereas getting 4mbps download and 400kbps up with jk4 :(]

Found 2 very good absent mods for camera,

1 is the camera button which can be installed from SGS Tools and the another is Continuous Auto focus in video mode which can be download from here :- http://www.4shared.com/file/estcwRQU/comsecandroidappcamerafirmware.html

The autofocus tweak is from Darky's rom for Galaxy S

^about battery drain.

whenever you try different kernel/rom

charge battery to 100% and use until 0%

repeat this once.

and then start evaluating.

Hey guys, Lately been into this thread.

Darky's ROM + Voodoo + No Lagfix. Works awesome.

Less battery drain, smooth, everything working fine, No FC's at all.

PS - I am personally into Darky's ROM development. Working on ROM cosmetics (framework, application cosmetics, image optimization, bootanimation) & administrating his forum.

Rahulrulez | Darky's ROM

We're releasing our version 9.3 (currently into beta state) and trust me, after v5.0 Gingerbread edition. Our ROM has become the most popular ROM for i9000 (I don't say we're perfect).

I would love to see you guys using our ROM. :)

This is what we do for calibrating battery -

1. Use your phone until the phone switches itself off (battery empty)

2. Switch on once more to make sure battery really is 0% (it will then immediately switch off once more)

3. Now, keep switched off (!), plug in charger & leave in charging until 100%

4. When battery is full, switch the phone on, unplug & check if the batter immediately drops 1 or 2 %

5. If battery immediately drops, plug in charger once more (while running phone) & let it charge completely

6. Once charging to 100% is done, keep charger plugged in & Reboot into Recovery Mode

7. in Recovery Mode go to: advanced --> Wipe Battery Stats --> Yes-Wipe Battery Stats

8. When done: Go To --> reboot system now

9. Once system has rebooted, unplug charger

Battery needs to be calibrated, why?

- Whenever you flash any kernel, mod using ODIN or Heimdall , it resets the battery stats. If your battery is not fully charged while flashing kernel / mod. It makes numerical mess with your battery stats. To resolve this, we need to wipe battery stats when battery is 100% in actual.

Did the same today, even tried after updating to stock froyo 2.2, tried with different modem's, kernels, rom's, everything, seems like the battery is having some issue, can any1 tell me how much can i get a genuine battery for ?

After 100% charge, the battery keeps discharging continuously without any use, even in standby, without anything extra turned on like GPS, WiFi, not even 3G :(,

The xda=forum links given to unlock the phone in the galaxy S deal thread are little confusing for me as it mentions 2-3 methods. Can some one tell me what would be the best method specially if the phone is running Android 2.2.

Further it seems that for a phone running 2.2 to be unlocked, root is mandatory requirement. If it is true then which root method (amongst the various listed in xda website) should I use.

My personal feeling is that xda website not as well organized or moderated as modaco, but the amount of information available at xda is unparalleled (some times it becomes confusing though).

Install universal androot and root the phone. Sometimes it takes more than one attempt to to root the phone. Then install the samsung USB drivers and then

For Windows

Connect phone to PC. Make sure USB debugging is enabled on the phone (Settings->Applications->Development->USB Debugging)

Download and extract the attached Generate Unlock Windows.zip.

Run Generate_Code.bat

Look for the line Network Control Key:YourCode

Save the code

Step A.2. – Enter the code

Power down your phone

Put in a SIM card from another carrier

Power up your phone

When it boots up it will ask for the unlock code that you found above

Thanks Archat68. Just one question:

Will these two methods work on an updated locked Android 2.2 phone. Asking since I read somewhere that some root and unlock methods don't work in captivate loaded with Android 2.2.

I'm not sure. Read that unlocking thread. However you can always flash the stock 2.1 ROM and proceed.

Root will work not sure about carrier unlocking.

dude thanks a lot it worked perfectly for me.... all these days was struggling to calibrate the battery... every time i charged the phone to 100% it would drop to 98% or 97%

this time i charged the phone (phone was in use & not switched off) untill it showed 100%... restarted the phone in recovery mode with the Charger plugged in & wiped the battery stats.

now i can see the 100& charge even after i unplug the charger....

^ Glad to know it worked. I've seen many users who are having devices on which above method doesn't work. I am trying to find the issue. It is clear that it is not a battery issue, it's just a mess of battery usage calculation that we need to reset. Battery stats wipe should erase all usage stats but unfortunately it doesn't for some device.

Btw, we're getting many ROM's having 2.3.2 has a base. Wait couple of weeks and you'll get another build of Gingerbread from Samsung (labeled as leaked version :P) which will be a stable release. Current build i.e. JV1 is much like beta, so it has lots of bugs and it is full of lags.
