Well the keyboard of Serendipity has a horrible layout, will try it till this weekend before switching to Darky's ROM.

Galaxy S officially getting Gingerbread by end of march from samsung..

when galaxy s II launches, is there any possibility of galaxy s price to fall?

For me, single core and gpu wise, this is the best android phone to own(maybe camera is lacking but rest is superb)

Want to try Darky's ROM 9.3 Extreme Edition, but it's installation process is little scary. It asks you to disable lag fixes manually and the while updating through odin requires "Repartiton". I'm little apprehensive that I may brick a phone that has no warranty in India.

@rahulrulez Any comments. Why do I require this repartiton and disable lagfix? And to install 9.3, I need to install 9.2 first? for most of the ROM's I need to install Stock ROM first.

Which modem and kernel you suggest to go with release. Do the default installation includes Modem and kernel? If yes which one?

Edit: Got it . kernel is speemod k13c, Modem JL3. I welcome to be corrected.

repartition thing if to be done while installing stock rom..then it is to erase the rom.

i generally skip installing stock rom.

as for lag fix, yes it is advisable to do so since there are different types/version of lagfixes which may not be compatible in operation with each other.

Use Captivate Tool for these processes.

so to conclude for captivate whats a good rom?
serendipity/pheonix/darky ..

just go through what they offer, decide what you need out of them, then decide what kernel you would want (i found speedmod being battery friendly than suckerpunch) etc etc.. you can always put different theme etc.. all comes down to system integration features and smoothness.

i have preferred serendipity + speedmod.

i sold both captivate and vibrant today so i will have to reply on input from members in updating this thread.

do not want this to die just because OP is no more in possession of the hardware, sgs is a capable series.

Locally?.. Sad that forum members didn't got a chance . :)

Any ways all the best with your atrix.
Both of those were ordered by others in the 1st place, i was just having a good time with them until the buyer was free to collect :)

After reading your posts im going to try out Serendipity + Speedmod as you suggested. I do not have the patience to try different ROM's so going to go with what you've done :P

Hopefully we'll get a good Gingerbread ROM based on the leaked samsung update sometime soon.

I havent tried the new roms based on the official froyo release for captivate..so yoh may want to check up with xda for known issues with new releases...

It is naturally less painfull to read through the threads before you screw up than after :P

-This Cryptic Message is brought to you from beyond The MAtrix :P:)

AFAIK, only Cogniton is based on official released Froyo for captivate. I tried that yesterday but a major problem with that ROM is selection obetween 2g/3g as it doesn't offers the settings for this. You have to do this using SGS tools. Also operator selection will always be automatic.

Cognition is basic in nature as far as looks goes and is themed as standard Samsung. People in US/Europe have reported good call quality with this ROM as it can use something called "Audience chip" that comes with Captivate. I uninstalled this ROM within a hour of flashing it.

Serendipity is a very good option as well as phoenix. Tried serendipity for a week before switching to phoenix just yesterday (after i removed cognition 4.2.1). Will surely update about my experiences with this ROM.

In last two weeks I tried most of the ROMS available at xda forum. Each had it's own share of pros and cons.

Continuum and Darky's ROM seems to be the best ROM at the moment.

Presently I'm on Darky's 9.5 flashed with JK4 modem and it seems pretty good. Darky 9.5 installs JQ1 modem by default which gives problems in GSM900 and switching between 2G/3G.

Hey, are service center guys updating Galaxy S 2.1 or 2.2 to gingerbread? Also anyone knows what's the price for Galaxy 2?

Called up service center, they will update 2.1 or 2.2 to 2.3 after 25th april & cost of Galaxy S 2 is 30,000rs ( divine cell, dadar )

Sad, if i'd knew i would have waited for G2 :(

The re-sell value of Galaxy I9000 as per them ( Divine Cell ) comes to 10,000 or 12,000.

Got my Captivate i897 with original ROM and locked. Rooted ad unlocked.

Now going to install custom 2.2 ROM.

Is clockworkrecovery is enough to install ROM or I need ODIN also ?

Ive been on Bionix 1.3.1 on my Vibrant and was on Serendipity 6.2 for my bro's Captivate.

Have had no major issues with Bionix, its been working fairly well. But GPS is screwed up. Yet to install the GPS fix so will install it and report back. I Installed the hacked captivate camera and its much easier to take pics with the power button now. Layout of the camera buttons is also a lot better than the stock Vibrant camera.

Bro wasnt happy with Serendipity so installed Darky's yesterday. Hes a lot happier with Darky;s ROM and its very customisable using the app provided. GPS was also a lot better and almost accurate (about 20m off, but the blade was better, placed me like within 5 m). Had the same modem problem as you said so switched to UGGL2 modem and its been working well. Maybe i'll try out the Vibrant edition of Darky's and see how that is

Looking forward to a good 2.3.3 ROM in the coming weeks :D

Edit: How do i install Allshare on the Vibrant? Bionix didnt come with it, and wasnt able to install it using Titanium backup (after backingit up from the Captivate)

Hi. Seeing your post, I have installed Darky's ROM 9.5 Extreme Cappy Edition and then installed JK4 modem. Thanks.

Now, Under Band Selection (*#2263#), Can you suggest what band should I select under WCDMA and GSM. Should it be 900 in both? BTW, it is for Vodafone/Airtel in NCR.
