Samsung OMNIA launched in India today. Just saw news on Star News.
Dont know abt price though.

Bad pricing, but at least its better priced in India compared to iPhone. They should drop off the 16GB Memory card option and try to bring down the price of the 8GB model to sub 30k. Wouldn't even have minded the current prices had it had a high resolution display like the Xperia X1 or HTC Touch HD.

Anyway, I have decided to wait till Christmas before getting a new phone (that is if my dying P910i does not completely go dead before that). I hope they can get the Xperia X1 and HTC Touch HD into the market by that time.

Had a chance to play around with it for a while, was much faster than most winmo devices I have experienced in the past (maybe cause it didnt have any apps or music/videos on it) the cam is pretty decent, however was disappointed by the gui and the display, the colors somehow looked washed out ... not worth the price imo

HTC Touch HD looks like a much better bet imho

true.. the display does look washed out as compared to devices with 800*480 resolutions like the touch hd and xperia..

ive used an iphone 3g and even that display was way better than this one..

but the omnia offers much more peace of mind and a hell lot of customization.

its lightweight, doesnt need an itunes to transfer music, and is blazingly quick to use..

the camera is way better than the iphone and maybe on par with the n95(my ex :-).. the smile recog feature is very nifty and the interface is very nice

only sore thumb is the stupid stupid win mo 6.1 os which is not as good looking as the mac os on the iphone.. but there are aftermarket solutions to that and trust me, they look awesome and are highly usable(i use one right now)

by the way the sound quality is absolute KILLER!!!!! does justice to the 16gb of space available on it.. to those who find the headphone volume less, worry not.. samsung has put a lock on the volume levels and can be unlocked in a matter of seconds with just a few key presses.. ive done that and it sounds BETTER than the iphone cos samsung supplies the sound chips to apple and they use the same or maybe better modules in their own products!!!!!!!! trust me on the sound part, im happiest with that! the ringtones are LOUD and even they can be made to sound louder by the same software tweak

the iphone does not even have a today/active standby screen which i totally dig now cos i dont need to go into different menus.. all are on the desktop

how much is it in the grery market ? i dont understand why they are still stuck at 65k colors. i know it has 262k colors but only 65k colors are effective. that kinda sucks since my last phone had 16million colors. id have my doubts about buying this at 30k +

It is the limitation of the OS not the phone hardware. No Windows Mobile phone can show 16M colours or even true 262k colour.

well dont u think in 2008 all this is outdated. they should come out with windows 7 now with 16 million colors. this is the main reason i never bought HTC after 2004. i had o2 xdaII, then too it had 65k color lol

The pricing seems horrible, and I guess the iPhone's come with contract pricing right? If they dint, they were a much better deal than that. (i'm anyway a iPhone fan :P )

@fmehta - did u find the headphone volume less? I do agree the speaker on the iphone doesn't do much justice comparing it with sony ericsson's or samsung, but the quality of output of iphone via the headphone jack is a totally different story, I haven't heard any other portable player's sound quality better, I doubt there would be many that surpass the sound quality of iPhone or ipod.

I dont know about iPhone but I tried various iPods (iPod Nano, Classic, Shuffle) and also iPod Touch and none of them had better than mediocre audio quality. iPods strengths are around User interaction and music management. Audio playback quality is not the forte of these players. Heck some chinese MP3 player I had come across had better audio quality than Nano or Classic.

See if u look at it from the whole scenario, a 16GB SDHC card would cost easily around 9k atleast.... drop that off and you get the OMNIA priced at a very decent 30k...

THe phone works amazingly fast, considring that it has 2 layers of front screen over the WinMO today screen..... The main menu colors look a bit washed out, but video playback is quite good.....

p.s >> They would be launching a vesion without the memory card bundle later on at a cheaper price... ;)

^^ Agree, its bundled with the Microsd and thats pretty much the reason for its ridiculous price.

However ...
I m gonna wait for the LG KC910 for now. I have my eyes on it, i just want to see how the music quality is on that phone. X1 im not too happy about the keyboard, neither does it have an accelocraper.
