Hi TE members,

I am going to upgrade my processor, motherboard and RAM to current LGA 1155 platform, and i have finalised my list as following items :

My budget is max Rs 12000.

1) Intel core i3 2100 3.1 GHZ

2) Asus p8h61 micro ATX motherboard

3) G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB Single Stick DDR3 1600

Since, i am not going to overclock any of my components and put stress on my PSU.

I need to know if the above config is good enough and compatible with each other and if there's a better alternative to anything .. please let me know.

Thanks.

Request you to mention your budget for alternatives

For the budget the above system is perfect

Imp point is you have opted for 1600mhz ram whereas your mobo supports 1333mhz... So your ram will be running at 1333mhz eventually... you may overclock in future

Ok, Budget updated.. but is there any DDR3 1333 MHZ modules with Heat spreaders ? My computer stays on for continuos 18 hrs in a day.

Muskin silverline 1333mhz has heatsink... but my suggestion is dont let the opportunity go coz you are getting ripjaws 1600mhz at a decent price (acc to your pm)... And save that 2K of yours... The same config is enough :)

Since you already own a E7200 clocked @ 3.2GHz IMO it would be better if you upgrade to a i5 2400 quad.

Intel core i5 2400 3.1 GHz ~ 9k

Gigabyte GA-H61M-D2-B3 ~ 3.4k

G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB Single Stick DDR3 1600MHz ~ 1.7k

Total: 14.1k

Save up a bit and go for the above config.

H61 mobo will support my proccy without limiting Core i5 2400 ??

also, what about H67 mobo, what's the main difference between them ?

Name H61 H67 P67 Z68
CPU Support Sandy Bridge Sandy Bridge Sandy Bridge Sandy Bridge
PCIe Configuration 1 × PCIe 2.0 x16 1 × PCIe 2.0 x16 1 × PCIe 2.0 x16 or 2 × PCIe 2.0 x8 1 × PCIe 2.0 x16 or 2 × PCIe 2.0 x8
Maximum DDR3 slots 2 4 4 4
OverClocking GPU GPU CPU CPU + GPU
embedded GPU Yes Yes No Yes
RAID No Yes Yes Yes
Maximum USB Ports (USB 3.0) 10 (0) 14 (0) 14 (0) 14 (0)
Maximum SATA Ports (SATA 3.0) 4 (0) 6 (2) 6 (2) 6 (2)
PCIe Lanes (5GT/s) 6 8 8 8
Smart Response Technology No No No Yes

Check the spec list. Of course H61 would support any SB CPU. It would even support i7 2600K.

I will differ slightly :

Core i5 2400 --- 9000/-

MSI H61M-E23 -- 3150/- ( I feel this is much better built than the usual anameic cheapo Gigabyte boards)

Corsair XMS3 1600Mhz 10 yrs warranty--- Rs 1800/- ( I hate Gskill, they tend to die quickly :P and though Prime is good in RMA ....you need to wait quite long as they dont have ready RMA replacement stock and sometimes take even upto a mnth ! Corsair is over the counter in most cases)

^^ Its 1700+tax actually

Got 2 X 4GB last week for around 3600 tax paid from SP Road, bangalore

Btw Ripjaws is also listed at Prime ABGB site at Rs 1850 + shipping ! Listed prices r always higher than what u get if u go to shop :D

Hmm.... There's a little problem with my budget, i need to hold in till 20th May.. If it gets solved , i can increase my budget to 20K max..

I thought about the following configuration..

1) Intel Core i5 2400 Sandy Bridge 3.1GHz (3.4GHz Turbo Boost) ~ 9300

2) ASUS P8H67-M PRO B3 Revision LGA 1155 Intel H67 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard ~ 7400

3) CORSAIR XMS3 4GB DDR3 1600 ~ 2150

Its more than good 4 me , isn't it :D

okay, another thing about RMA issues..

1) Primeabgb : If i buy the hardware from them and if it becomes EOL and not in stock.. then i need to RMA my components.. what will i expect ? do they take time but still replace the faulty components instead of giving us a credit note ?

2) Theitwares : If i buy from them , and when i need for RMA.. they always say product is EOL and they don't have stock.. so every customer buying from them gets a Credit note , right ? not a replacement within warranty ?

Selected mother board have ONLY 2 RAM Slots, imo go with 4 Ram Slot.

Just letting you know that we have not issued a single credit note till date, let me explain we only act as a service center for products that we distribute so if say ur Asus Mobo goes bad and u don't have a service center near u then u can send it back to us and we will claim the warranty for u from the Asus Service center and will just be acting as middle man there whatever they decide will tell u and then whatever u have to say will tell them.

About the products that we distribute we will be the service center and will be providing u warranty for the same if at a point say something goes EOL or Out of stock at the date u claim the warranty on those products we will be giving you a replacement for the same if we have one, if not that then will offer u an upgrade (Say for eg u give us a Gskill 4gb ram for rma and we don't have replacement but we have 8gb then u can take that by paying us differential amount which will be the (Current Market Value of the 8GB Ram as on date u claim warranty - Current Market Value of the 4GB Ram as on date u gave it back for RMA)) lastly a credit note if we don't have anything to offer of similar market value of that product as on the date when u claim the warranty of the same which you can redeem by buying any of the products that we distribute and have stock.

All Values will be of the Values of New products as on date u claimed warranty.
