Graphic Cards Sapphire X800 GTO2 woes

Thanks again.

I have tried that as written above (on first page). The psu molex's are only going to the card and no other device.

Just in case !!!

I have Neo4 Platinum with plain Navtek PSU and also a 6600GT PCI-E.
Incase you wanna check your card or mobo and if my PSU will support. ;)

Note that iam not of any technical assistance .....Iam just a learner.
So you need to figure out yourself if you wanna check .. :S

Anyway, Switch would be of greatest help to you... :hap2:

i actually live on the other side of Noida now... Xanza is in the begining of noida and i am in Sec 61 Noida.... Will pass you my mobile number and we can confirm the timings over the phone... Also get your complete setup and not just the card so that i can sort out the issue once for all... Otherwise no point of doing the tedius exercise....

@lord... I dont agree with your theory of GFX Card Power connector at all... Its a universal connector/wire... So it should work... Something else is fishy here...

I will get the complete setup. Let me know your number and what time will be suitable for you so that I plan accordingly. Thanks.

It has worked guys. It was a problem with power connector cable. It is working now with one connector going to GPU (The other connector has some problem or is not getting enough power). Switch Rocks!!!!! :D

Thanks a lot everyone :) Special thanks goes to Switch who took out his precious time to help me out. Thanks a lot Switch!!!!!! :D

Could you be a bit more specific ...what you have posted is very vague ...try to give as much details as per ur ability ...

I hope this clarifies:

The PCI-E power cable has 2 molex connectors (which connect to the PSU molexes) and one 6 pin connector(which goes to GPU). One of those molex connector (of PCI-E power cable) has some problem or is not getting enough power. So currently the card is working from the power of one molex connector.

very strange ....if there is a problem in the (faulty) connector such as shorts ...(yellow and black wire touching etc..) then it is immaterial whether you connect it(faulty molex) to the psu molex or not ...the card will still not function properly since on the gfx card the wires from both the molex's are combined.
unless the wires from the "faulty" molex connector is connected to the wrong pins on the 6 pin connector (just check whether all the yellow and black wires are in the same line on the 6 pin connector).
better yet ask switch to post what exactly was the problem ....

Switch, I wish more people in this world were like you.......

I really appreciate you taking time out to help a relative stranger :) ..... but I cant appreciate you in anyway except rep you :P. .....

PS: When are you shifting to Bangalore :P ??

Sorry guys.. Could not post earlier as didnt had access to Net connection

Okey the problem was mostly with the PSU... Thats what i can comprehend from the thing... The PSU has two Molex lines coming out...

This is how i have distributed them:

Wire 1 goes to HDD, FDD & Optical Drive.

Wire 2 exclusive for GFX card.

I was short on time so could not experiment much on the thing. Just had like 20 minutes as i had to leave for some place urgently. Wanted to try a benchmarking software like 3dmark or RTHDRIBL to test out the stablity but noting was installed onto the PC. But card was working fine from the looks of it.

I have recommended Tarun to use the setup as of now. Also Tarun has not got any intake/exaust fans in his pc as of now. Traun get them installed asap otherwise your PC *will* cook.

The first upgrade tarun should be doing if he does should be a good PSU. He was a little short on budget so i have told him to buy a good PSU when he *can* and should not buy anything cheap as of now. A PSU with decent dual 12V rails is a good buy. Iceing on the cake will be if the PSU has a built in PCIe Power connector.

Also one thing which was wrong in tarun's setup was that he was using a 20 Pin ATX connector while the PSU had the extra four pins on it. Corrected that too.

So as for now my advise to him is :

1. Install fans asap.

2. Benchmark the PC for atleast 2 hours non stop. (3Dmark 2006/RTHDRIBL)

3. If possible get a *good* PSU

Possible choices:

Antec SP2/TP2 400+ Watts

Zebby Diamond 540/640

Vantec Ion2 Storm (Singal high 12 v Rail)

Powersafe 450/500 Watts

@tarun chk this link Newegg.com - Once You Know, You Newegg chk the fifth pic... There is nothing wrong with the PCIe Power wire of yours :D...

Thanks again Switch. But I am still wondering how is the GPU working with one of the molex connected to the PSU molex and other molex being free.

My pc doesn't seems to be in good shape since yesterday. Tried playing few games yesterday and there were jerks in between. Even while in windows the mouse movement was jerky.

I checked the voltage of 12v and it was at 11/11.25. I think I will go for a new PSU which has a 6-pin connector for GPU.

Will this be enough for my PC

Thats beyond my budget I am afraid. :(

Where can I get the Vantec Ion2 in Delhi. The one which you have with 30A on 12v :D You said the new one is available for around 3k.

@switch: did you need to connect both the molex of the PCIe connector or is it running from only one? As far as I could gather the GTO2 does not make use of all the 6 PINs of the PCIe connector. The original connector that comes with the card also needs to be powered by only one molex.

@tarun: Try zebby (skyhawk series) 540 or the Powersafe 500W if you do not want to spend too much on the PSU. They should be able to handle your card without any problems. At least power safe 500 should be less than 3k.

lord_nemesis: You are right. Its currently being run from a single molex (which is connected to psu molex) and the other molex is free. I am also wondering how it is running.

Powersafe 500w doesn't have a good rating on 12v rail and it doesn't have a PCI-E connector. I am looking for Antec or Vantec Ion2.

Thats because its getting the required amount of power on the correct PCIe pins. If the original PCIe cable needs only one molex, then there is no reason why this one needs 2 molex. What I dont understand is why it did not work when both molex are connected. Since the pins connections are discrete, it should not matter if you connect both the molex as far as it gets the power on the right PIN's of the PCIe connector. However connecting both molex on the original cable that comes with the card would have been fatal to the card.

As for the PSU, Vantec Ion 2 is very good, only prob is the availability in Delhi. may be you will have to get it from mumbai.
