use the 40gb as a backup HDD - preferably in an external USB case - use Acronis or Ghost both of which have around 50% compression for backup images.

Hitachi's are comparable to the Seagate 7200.10, dunno about 3 or 5 year warranty though.

Got 5 Years warranty for my Hitachi T7K500 320GB SATA II from APEX. Their price 5400/- .... Prime quoted me 5250/- for this Hitachi HDD one day after I got it .....It is a wee bit slower than the 7200.10 - 3.5 MB/s to be precise - but that is not important for me.

could heat be a problem?? they get hot !! 43 degrees!!

and `im really scared :(.. where do i take a backup of a full 320 gigger :-S!! except yeah dvds :S

Actually I did extensive research before finalizing on Maxtor DiamondMax 10. Hard disks from the same vendors too differ based on brands. There are some good review for this drive out there and I read around 100 reviews of happy customers before finalizing the drive. I hope for my sake it runs as good as the reviewers reviewed it.

My experience with Maxtors.....

I checked a lot of posts in forums a couple of years back for the BEST HDD series including in Storagereview and all pointed to the Maxtor DM9 series. I bought 3 DM9's and one Maxline Plus II. Out of these 2 120GB SATA HDDs died very soon and since the last week the 160GB SATA has started giving CRC errors :(

No wonder Maxtor had to sell out to Seagate.

What I have read about the DM10 has been quite favourable.... but as far as I am concerned .....MAXTOR = NEVER AGAIN.

Guys I'm in a topsy-turvy land which HDD to buy.
Eazy whats the full specs of the hitachi one with any special things to look for, and how many plates it has?

1> Shud 5 mbps more speed of the 7200.10 series really matter in games or say when the HDD is full?
2> Which will perform better when full or say near full?
3> really which one shud i gamble one?
