Monitors Secondary or third monitor advice

I have a 34 inco qhd 165hz MSI UW curved VA monitor connected hung in monitor arm, connect to 4080 super, windows pc. Its decent, i like the immersion.

I'm also getting a Mac mini m4, so i definitely need a second monitor.

I have ordered a LG Ultragear Gaming 27 Inch Full HD VA Monitor 165Hz, 27GQ50F https://amzn.in/d/0WfJmWK on order for 7400.
I think the price is cheap but also , this monitor is not good.

Together i think this will be jack (34qhd average monitor) + a** (27fhd) setup.

Should I avoid this 1080p 27 165 va monitor and instead get a portable 16inch fhd monitor right now and later add a 4k monitor later?

I think a 34qhd + 16 portable + 4K low refresh rate but good colour accuracy for mac would be better.

I might have answered my own question, but is the monitor on order totally useless for me? I should mention that all the 16 inch monitor I see available here in india are 10k plus.

Or maybe something else from your own personal experience.. help me out here

I should first say i have no personal experience with high-end monitor.

Assuming you are getting a mac mini for things that require more pixels and a color accurate picture, you might consider 1440p or 4k, with high contrast ratios and NTSC ratings.
But for normal work things that don't require monitors accuracy, getting a cheap 1080p is a good option for saving money, especially from the things you don't need.

But the portable monitor sounds pretty bad, unless you will use it often after buying the 4k monitor, its just seems like a waste of money. Its difficult to find usefulness in it.

Yep I would recommend against plain 1080p Full HD these days... if you can't get an LG 4K 27 inch IPS now, then portable unit is a good stopgap temp option. I have done the same, I got an MSI portable monitor - it was quite handy - now that I have a 4k monitor - I keep the portable one for backup or maybe to connect to my miniPC / Rpi etc if I need.

I had this monitor for a short while, it uses a horrible panel. Poor color gamut. I think it is sub 60% srgb and some 600:1 ratio. Saying this cause OP mentioned accuracy. Regardless of levels, this monitor is bad for even basic media consumption. For spreadsheets, emails and that kind of work, it is fine.

OP, you can check out Arzopa monitors if you really want a portable monitor. Good colors. But consider it to have zero after sales. They're all pricey for what they are though.

Don’t buy a regular 4k monitor for the Mac Mini, buy a better suited monitor that has aspect ratios that are supported by the Mini natively. I have an M4 mini, and a 4k TV connected and everytime I switch from Windows to Mac, I cringe.

I think you have very high standards :D this monitor is quite good for regular use, even videos are acceptable, especially when this is a stopgap/temporary and not long-term daily driver unit. I was pretty impressed with it. Can't compare it to a proper full sized monitor which will have a better panel of course. This is IPS too but only 6-bits panel hence looks like why you find it "horrible" compared to whatever you're comparing with. Worth it IMO (pretty VFM) for around the ₹11k that I got it for a few months ago.

I guess this is what OP wants for the eventual monitor not for the stopgap portable unit.

Its not about standards, it objectively is not a good panel. Black is like blue-grey, skin tones look awful, red is a weird mix, poor contrast.. etc. If its acceptable to you for your purpose, that's cool.

I'm comparing it the other options in the market. I have tried most of the options out there (had this, Cocopar and Arzopa). For a little more you get a far superior panel from other brands. Portable monitors are overpriced anyway, and I don't think there is such a thing as VFM. Ironically, imho the MSI monitor offers the lowest VFM of the lot.

Anyway OP, apologies for derailing the thread.

@tr27 On another note, I know from friend's experiences and general reading that Mac UI is optimized for 5k and not 4k, in case that matters to you. Lots of videos online demoing this.
Also, from my experience, 4k on 27" isn't optimal. You'd have to scale to 50% for readability and ample window real estates, which makes it pretty much 1440p (not considering pixel density). 4k on 32 inch is good. Just some additional things to consider.

I have used 27" 1080p monitors in my office, its lower pixel density is easily noticeable for me (my main monitor is 27" 1440p). Buy 24" 1080p or 27" 1440p (will cost 13-14k).
