Actually my problem is that recently i got Media center 2005 edition

After installing the 1st CD the setup started asking for Service Pack 2 CD

But i didnot have it so i downloaded from net but it started giving me error message that their is a translation error setup cannot continue.
PLEASE HELP ME OUT!:(
 
Win XP Media Center 2005 was released after SP2 and it shud include all features of SP2 by default. The SP2 you dloaded from microsoft website is meant for the following OS only:

Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition

Microsoft Windows XP Professional

Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition

Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition

Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004

Since you have the newer version i.e 2005, i suggest you go through the official webpage (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/mediacenter/default.mspx) for more details on it. There's one Update Rollup 2 available. You might wanna try installing that. :)

I followed ur link
From there i got a link to download windows xpsp2 but after two steps the setup(Microsoft Update)started asking to install activex control
The Format is as follows:


Install the ActiveX control required to view the website
The website will not display correctly on your computer without this control. To install it:
1. Right-click the Internet Explorer Information Bar. It's located just below the address bar.
2. In the right-click menu, click Install ActiveX Control.
3. In the Security Warning dialog box, click Install.

But the thing is that there is no information bar in Internet Explorer

So what should i do.:help:
 
afaik information bar is available only in IE6 with Sp2

since u don have sp2 installed, u wont be able to see the info bar.

in tat case, the activex shud automatically install. weird really :p

if ur Media Center 2005 copy is legit, try calling ms support services.

they mite be able to figure out why the setup is asking for Service Pack 2 CD :S
 
Hey I asked my friend (from whom i got Media Center 2005 copy ) he told me that he had downloaded it using torrents but when he loaded on his pc it didnot ask any sp2 cd(He had sp2 already installed ) could that be the problem

So could anybody help by getting me a sp2 cd

R Torrents illegal?

I didnot know that.

Torrents are just for sharing right na and torrents are also dicussed in techenclave forum (P2P Networking)
 
You are not supposed to share copies of windows. You should pay for it. Hence, downloading windows thru torents is illegal.
 
Windows Media Centre edition 2005 comes in 2 Cds. So its the reason why its asking for the CD2. Downloading the Sp2 or the SP2 will not help you.

@for all others, How can we help if you dont seem to be owning a legal copy, read the forum rules, we dont discuss warez or pirated stuff here :(

Yeah refrain from posting here in public. Thats doesnt mean you cant send PM's though. So ask someone "personally" and they might reluctantly help you after much harrasment. Lol.

Hey just pm someone here who has MCE 2005 and they should help you out.
