As CJ said , Vashi and KK will be suited for u as they are pretty close to Mhape. But Vashi will be a bit expensive in terms of Rent. Ill ask a friend or 2 about places in KK , and in Vashi too if i can find a good place worth mentioning.

@Sangram : He should be no stranger to Mumbai :P

And bangalore is also nightmare when it comes to traffic. Atleast that was the case all 3 times I visited bangalore over last 3 years.

Flat rents have gone through the roof here. Only decent rates are in north suburbs. New Mumbai is actually more expensive than north suburbs on western line. And going through agent is the best bet.

:o 20k is not enuf :o

well i remember my sis living in vashi, they had 2BHK and paid ~12k, i need to confirm this but it wans't higher than that it was around 1 year back tho, now they have shifted to mumbai, on pedder road and prices are insane there lol ......

EDIT.... i meant nerul, dunno how i wrote vashi there :-/

Man, its time you stopped wasting all that money on rents and think about purchasing a flat... You seem to be professionally secure. Why not take a loan?

Maybe cause he's not geographically secure?

Err I'd not really want to live in Vashi. Too crowded and polluted. I'd prefer places which are further away like Nerul or maybe even Kharghar. How much do those areas cost?

@vij: I have no idea where I'd be in 3 years time. So there's no use buying a house :P.

@phoenix: Thanks! Please let me know if you manage to find something

@arya: Car is going with me :P.

@sangram: Thanks so much for the info. Would love to listen to your setup. Traffic is a non issue. Mumbai traffic is way better than bangalore. Atleast people have some road sense. Here in blore, they have none. Its horrid out here :P.

road sense ? the auto i was sitting in was chased around the western highway by a big red city bus just because he shouted something at him in marathi ...bloody hell that was so nerve wracking ...in the end the auto guy had the presence of mind to brake in one corner or else bye bye world with no fault of mine and i was used to repeatedly see accidents on that highway just ..

and wow 20k is not enough ...lucky i am not there anymore and yea you just cannot get a flat without an agent...impossible

@Zhops: Heh I'm used to daily nightmares in bangalore .

Worry not... Ronnie told me he travels daily from Nerul to the same place and it takes him ~15 mins. So I guess I should be okay.

Now dont tell me that you too are shifting alongwith your factory to Mumbai :|

Just wanted to understand if buying a neat single bedroom flat in Nerul makes sense to the OP. If priced below 20L, it looks alright as an investment perhaps. Or maybe not, he may still need 2BHK.

I put up at Nerul, on the palm beach road. It shouldn't take more than 15-20 mins to reach Mahape. Try something on the Palm Beach Road, you should get it within 20k. Just recently someone put up his flat for rent for 20k (2 bedroom + stilt parking). I will let you know if I get to know of a vacant flat for rent.

By the way, taking the help of an estate agent isn't too bad. You can call this guy @9323296633, Name: Vinod. Hez a smart young estate agent :).

You can take my name (Gaurav Seth).

Investing in real estate within Mumbai at any time is a good idea. It would definitely give you good returns. All the talk of the markets on their downward trend, etc. is just for the non-Mumbai markets. Even though the real estate market is stagnant, it would still end up giving lucrative returns in the next 5-8 years. Its a simple demand/supply game here. Too much demand v/s too less supply.

I bought an apartment @ Rs.3050/sq ft in Dec 2005. Right now it stands @ Rs 7200/sq ft. This is in Vikhroli

20 K not enough ! :O

I have been living a very nice locality off Eastern Express Highway near Priyadarshini Circle (Technically in Kurla East). Flat rent for a sufficiently large 2 BHK is 18.7 K right now (I have been living there for 2 years, so maybe my landlord has been considerate on us). SO I would assume rent would be much less in Vashi and other area further north, and towards the outskirts.

(I might be looking for roomies as well as my room mates are moving out in a month or so). Happy house hunting !

(I found my agent through 99acres.com! So not all agents are bad initially !)

Cheers !

~M

Good call mate!

It really isn't worth being small fry in a big pond (esp. in the most important years of your career) unless you have a fairy Godfather (or Godmother) in the organization

Guess now I need to fix up a Bangalore trip before you leave
