I was under the impression that you don't lock your checkin baggage since they have to check it for security reasons & they break the lock if its there.

Or am I mistaken...

You're right. But thats why the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) provides TSA approved locks that can be opened by the Airline Security & Inspection Team in case you run outta luck when they randomly decide to inspect the contents of your luggage. After checking your luggage, they will tag your bag as having been "Inspected". This ensures firm collateral and the customer can gain leverage while filling out a claim form if incase something goes missing during inspection or otherwise during the period for which the Airline Company was responsible for the luggage's safety and not the Airline Customer.

Customers need to be responsible as well.

Not locking your baggage!! I honestly think you deserve it!!!
Not every chap in the Airline Industries is a saint!!

I pray you dont get a compensation! So that you, your friends n everyone here on TE learns a lesson...

You got to do your part to secure your items.. After that let the security take charge.. its cause of people like you, some security people have to depute extra persons on such petty theft..... and waste national resources!!

I didnt lock my luggage twice out of 3 trips I made to India. thankfully nothing was lost. Once it was empty except for helmet, other time it had a DSLR, tons of bike parts and a tube amp inside :P

I will not be bothered if it was any other airline it was SQ which is supposed be one of the best out there and dammit i flew in first class( paid a premium charge) not to loose item in my baggage :@

Yes Im very much in my sense!!

Dude I dont know understand what make you think that putting stickers instead of locks on your baggage would secure your items....

Next I will be seening Cops carrying Bullets instead of Gun to scare the bad guys into giving up!!

LOL who is this guy? Adding salt to the injury and he seems to take great pleasure at it.

Cut it already! Provide him with some useful info if you can, duh!

This is rather sad man. Dude u follow up with lots patience. I hope you get reimbursed. Just check for loop holes and skip around the potential traps. Would love to help but I'm really helpless considering that I haven't flown since 1991 :(

Ah, this is really sad.

I've flown primarily by SG Airlines and Emirates, those two are the best IMO. (Emirates slightly better).

Always, I repeat ALWAYS lock your bag no matter what.. you got really unlucky this time.

Me thinks its definitely an inside job, preying on international travelers in the hopes that they would give up easily since their now in a different country.Feel sorry for you mate :-(
Then the more ppl that make it a point to complain will bring it more into the open.

Hell, threaten to go to the press otherwise.

As far as i'm concerned whichever airline you took is the one that needs to be approached about this.

Kranti, Do keep us updated about your progress.

I haven't got any call or mail from them today.I will be calling them tomorrow and start threatening

In Auckland its menzies aviation.Let me call them right away they work 24/7.God dammit morons haven't replied me yet

@ Hmsalia: I am aware of airlines breaking the locks and checking them for security. Happened to a friend of mine on the heathrow-new delhi sector a couple of times. Damm they even told him that we will break your lock so better remove it :S . BTW i used a TSA lock when i came back this time.

@ Metalspree: Mate my best wishes with you. Screw the airlines/baggage handlers left right and centre, get a due compensation and additional for the mental trauma u faced.
