A couple of weeks ago, it was revealed that Square Enix had trademarked the name "Sleeping Dogs." Earlier today/late last night, the little pic of the tattooed cop was distributed with the Sleeping Dogs logo and speculation immediately began. While early reports had tagged the game as another Kane & Lynch game, the new pic left little doubt that it would be the fabled True Crime: Hong Kong reboot rumor that had been swimming around on the Internet since last May.
Now we know that this is indeed in the case. Square Enix has put out the initial trailer for Sleeping Dogs and it's a live action martial arts-fest. The game stars Wei Shen, an undercover cop who has ingratiated himself into a major Hong Kong crime syndicate. In addition to the crazy melee combat in the trailer, which Square and developer United Front Games says will be unprecedented, there will be great shooting and driving mechanics as well.
After Activision shut down True Crime: Hong Kong, it's good to see it get this rebirth.
