Well, they reviewed the Nokia 710.

You know what their conclusion is?

If you're just learning how to surf the internets and / or send a text, this phone's for you.

So I commented

"Really? For that? I can't believe it. This is what you write? Not expected from engadget"
They banned my FB account from commenting on their site for this.

Oh and I believe this isn't rash or anywhere near what others have posted openly, bad sexual references or remarks get the BIG + there.

And criticism gets banning.

Wow, engadget just proved to me what a lousy team they have.

OTT IMO but calling it dumbass for that is also OTT.

Its like you calling TE dumbass because a Moderator gave you a Ban !

Well, I am disappointed with Engadget. They should take every comment positively with sporting spirit. At least the OP here didn't abused or used any abusive language.. :X

Same/Similar things happen if u comment like that anywhere including this forum.

What else did u expect? :(. Nobody likes criticism. Their site, Their rules.

Engadget with their HUGE user base can ban right, centre and left.

First Gizmodo, now Engadget.. (ask iGo if you need to know what)..

Never bothered about these sites anyway..!

@m-jeri Not agree with you. People have right to share what they felt about it. If I were to be that reviewer, should I only expect positive comments? I can't expect good comments only even if I have written something that is below average. This isn't how to communities forms. If you are talking about this board. Let's take an example. Suppose a very good reviewer on this board fails to review a particular product in effective manner. Other members are free to say, it was not up to mark. One can not BAN a member for sharing his feelings.

Phonearena has also done a review now.

I always found Engadget reviews strange. For example, on one hand, they praised the LG Optimus 2x screen calling it a "High quality LCD screen". On the other hand, they criticized the G2x's screen saying "Display could be higher quality". Both have the same screen!
Their 'pros and cons' section also sometimes has really funny or weird stuff written like "3D excitement" in pros and "3D Fatigue" in cons for the O3D. I read their reviews more for fun nowadays :P .

Engadget lol! Part of their team decided to quit and form a dedicated Apple fanboi base, now called The Verge. Yet, Engadget remains the same. Take a look at their reviews for Apple products. Don't know about Gizmodo since I don't follow it.

Anandtech, Techspot, Techreport, TPU, Bit-tech, Slashgear, Xbitlabs, Guru3D, Softpedia, Hexus, Wired, Ars, Edge, [H], Jonnyguru, iclarified - those are the only sites I follow for sometime. Opens fine at work and doesn't have any particular bias. At least AFAIK.

See you dont have to agree with me nor I am asking you to. But thats just the way most people/places are.

The reality is what @OP experienced.

^^Sorry mate....if what the OP experienced is the reality then why aren't the other 100's of ppl banned who have commented even more horribly. OP is prolly more unlucky:)

worst, didnt make a sexual remark and get 50+ likes

(I got 27 about 6 months ago on one :P_)

Sorry to hear such an idiotic thing happening with you comp@ddict. That's sick on Engadget's part.

@Gannu: I'd really do my homework before labeling the Verge team as Apple fanboi base. There has been a lot of ups and downs in the Engadget affiliate space (Engadget, TUAW, Joystiq etc) since the Aol takeover. It wasn't pretty. The team that left are some of the smartest guys in the Tech Journalism world. Josh Topolsky is a brand in himself, Nilay Patel is a lawyer and his perspectives on the legal battles and patent trolling cases in the tech world are very realistic and helpful for a (law) layperson. Joanna is the MSFT girl in that camp and her reporting on the MSFT/Windows space is again a refreshing change from the number and graph throwing reviews where a common buyer can hardly make a head or tail of things. Then there's Vlad with his mobile skills and the list goes on the the Ziegler, Miller Brothers and so on... Dont take me for a fanboi but just look at these guy's previous work before so easily branding them apple fanbois.

Yep I follow all these except 3 of them. I'll try them out (the last 3 in the list)

Engadget is just gonna be kicked out of the bookmarks.

Yeah I know they are a bug bunch of Apple Fanbois. Infact I've read such comments too. Wonder if those guys got banned.

Engadget is more like a Marketing/PR front for Apple (I even have a feeling that they get paychecks from Apple) than a mere fanboi site. So its definitely no wonder if someone is whimsically banned for a criticism.

sarang: I wholeheartedly respect your views on the site but mine would differ. The last article I possibly read was the iPhone 4S review and at that time, the site was in the transition phase operating under the banner of 'this is my next'.

Engadget does have this apple fan-boyism that makes them post outlandish comments about Apple products (Hell, they even said that the iPhone 4S was the most beautiful phone ever made before they looked at the Nokia n9)!!!

@ comp@ddict,

Just leave it bro. No point fighting with people who won't listen to criticism. They only care about a selected part of people, and they are overly biased. Surf around, read other reviews and sites. :D and as long as you're not posting cursing words or some *ahem* references :P you're good to go with posting whatever you feel like about an article/review/preview.
