Which version of aac+ did you use, v1 (AAC+) or v2 (Enhanced AAC+) ?

Does your plugin offer v2 or is there an additional option to select Parametric sterreo ?

Used v1

[encoding format :-- aacPlus(HE-AAC) Encoder v1.28a

Bitrate : 64 kbps

channel mode : stereo]

No there is no v2 but there is an addl. option to select parametric stereo (for 12 - 56 kbps) will try that later.

Anyway thx again.

(BTW, i am no audiophile and others may not like their audio at 64 kbps but it works for me:D)

Given the ambient noise around you when you listen i don't think many would hold it against you.

In which case you can do better

48kbs for v1
24kbs for v2

:D

You might be able to get still smaller files with v2 @32kbs or 24kbs, but i think 40kbs is the highest v2 will go, use a higher encoding rate and it becomes v1.

compare those with your v1 @64kbs and let us know :)

ya finally tried v2. @12,24,32 and 48 kbps resp. Compressed a 10 mb file to 744 kb at 12 kbps.:P the sound was quite tinny but still not that bad for a 12 kbps audio.

But for practical purposes 24-32 kbps is ideal! Both the compression and sound quality are pretty good.

a lower bitrates, mono is a good option :)

you wont get 2x the clarity due to the joint stereo approach, but still somewhat better :)

24 for most songs , some songs 32

Very good, and what is the size difference between those & a v1 @64kbs.

Mono is a possiblity if you want even smaller sizes but i think the music would suffer more as a result, so if you can get stereo @24kbs and are satisfied then that's the best you can get for now :)

24kbs , heh, those figures are unbelievable for anyone in the mp3 world. But it just goes to show at the higher end, most of the work's been done and that the lower bitrates are where development is required.

I expect mp3 to try and emulate HE-AACs performance in the future tho am not sure if its even possible. Recent versions have tried to reduce file size for the same quality but i think they are approaching a wall.
