I'm almost decided on buying a Samsung Galaxy SII. I've some queries that I think the Galaxy SII owners could best clear out.
1. Is the banding and yellow spot issues still present on your phone ? if yes, what is the mfg date of the phone. Also is it annoying and does it matter at all ?
2. How's the sound quality compared to previous Galaxy S and iPhone 4
3. Which shield/scratch guards & Cases are you using ? (Link if possible)
4. Does the phone lag at all, even at heavy usage ?
5. Hows the battery life ?
6. I read on XDA that the GPU is less powerful or not optimized for games so the performance/details aren't upto the mark of that of the HTC Sensation ?
7. Is the phone's screen too big for a regular use ?
8. Does the screen has a bluish tint (cold) like the previous Galaxy S (or is it towards the creamish/warmer side as that of the iPhone 4)
9. I'm getting it for around 29K at a well known shop in Mumbai, is it good and are there any cheaper options ? (Alfa stores maybe?)
I know, a lot of questions, but then this is one expensive phone and these are the some of the common queries that a lot of us looking to buy a Galaxy SII would have in mind.
Thanks for any and all input.

1. Yellow spot is matter of bad luck. Banding is present on almost all phones with low brightness and grey background. (Dont start looking for it or it will drive you crazy. You can live with it if you turn the brightness up a bit. But its definitely there on all phones I have seen till date. )

2. If you mean stereo sound output through headphones, its little less punchy than SGS1. There is noticeable hiss / GSM radio noise if you are running this on EDGE network with good quality headphones. As soon as you switch to 3G services, this goes away.

3. I use limpidity screen protector on all my phones. Its sold by one vendor on ebay. I never planned this and got this by random search on ebay couple of years back. Its about 1$ more expensive than rest of ebay cheap stuff, but its brilliant in quality. On par with more expensive $10 scratch guards. I will post the link to his ebay shop after a while.

As far as case goes, I bought cheap silicon case and then switched to the Zenus leather case you see in my signature. Brilliant case, but little pricey.

4. No lag. Everrrrrr.

5. Battery Life good enough for 1 day of moderately heavy use.

6. GPU is actually more capable than most out there. Its compatible with OpenGL ES 2.x and has better multimedia capabilities than anything else out there at the moment. Game optimisations will happen, already happening.

7. Upto you, for small hands, 4.3inch can be too big for single hand use.

8. Its AMOLED. Vibrant, slightly oversaturated look. Still better than anything else out there.

9. Pricing wont be below that anywhere.

No banding issue.

2. How's the sound quality compared to previous Galaxy S and iPhone 4

My reference point being Samsung Wave 8500 (H/W supposedly close to galaxy s)

Sound Quality = Not much difference. Installing Power Amp over Winamp improves things a LOT.

Call quality - Inferior to Wave. My only gripe with this phone is its call volume, specially through earplugs.

Wifi signal - inferior to Wave. Not a deal breaker, though.

3. Which shield/scratch guards & Cases are you using ? (Link if possible)

No case till now, stock "man purse". Screen guard - borrowed from Desire HD.

4. Does the phone lag at all, even at heavy usage ?

While navigating to the Message/Conversation screen. Sometimes when you tilt the phone while browsing gallery, the animations are not fluid. Otherwise NO problem.

5. Hows the battery life ?

Varies with usage, lasts for a day (discounting the sleeping hours).

6. I read on XDA that the GPU is less powerful or not optimized for games so the performance/details aren't upto the mark of that of the HTC Sensation ?

Don't know, not really bothered TBF.

7. Is the phone's screen too big for a regular use ?

It's perfectly fine, I find swyping on it (w/ one hand) easier than typing out on Wave.

8. Does the screen has a bluish tint (cold) like the previous Galaxy S (or is it towards the creamish/warmer side as that of the iPhone 4)

Its AMOLED. Vibrant, slightly oversaturated look. Still better than anything else out there

If you are open to buying from TE members. :)

Thanks everyone for clearing out my doubts. So, I went on to buy the phone today and got a deal at 29 and also had the vodafone promo offer activated.

Also, no Yellow Spot or Banding issue. (Definitely no Yellow spot)

Your Voda offer already activated? You bought from Vodafone store?

EDIT: Nevermind, saw your other post.
