Ok, . . straight to da point..some wierd settings in 220bx modem & airtel BB experienced by me with my connection & tested in other frnds' systems too,,,
Wierdo fact 1 :

  • When in Bridged mode , the speeds really touches the peek in torrents (i.e,16KB/sec on 128 kbps , 32 KB/sec on 256 kbps ..) BUT HIGHER pings in Game..:(
  • Same modem & system & torrent when run in PPPoE mode gives lower download/upload speeds BUT Better pings in Game :hap2:
Wierdo fact 2 :

  • The Usb cable from 220bx is soo unstable tat a good wave of electrical signal nearby the modem is enough to disconnect the connection:rofl: :@

Wierdo fact 3 :

  • For some reason if i download torrent(s) on a forwarded port (& UPNP DISABLED) , the css online gameplay gets really sluggish . . . high choke , existance of loss & low FPS
  • This happens once i download torrent for atleast 2-3 mins..;) , tried various BT clients viz,Azureus,Utorrent,Bitcomet
  • Once the modem is restarted (hard restart) , this gameplay is no longer affected .. its' back to normal 0 choke,0 loss & normal fps :P
I had tested these above in bsnl conection with the modem given by bsnl & no such wierdos' happend there...:P

Airtel CC had no clue wat to do....p.s: i din tell them abt the bridged speeds.:ohyeah:

Assuming the modem is the fault , i also got tat replaced 3 times...alas all were same problem,..(& i wanted only 220bx cause tats the best they can give..)

Yeah. I connect through the lan and not through the USB mode (they didnt even give me a USB cable with it!!)

How do you turn on bridge mode?

^depends...if u use a dialer to connect...u are already in bridged mode .. or if you have to manually turn off the modem by power...its' not..

in tat case u have to configure a new connection in the modems' config page & create a dialer from internet connection wizard..

yeah go to 192.168.1.1 and go to WAN page , edit one of the connections(if you don't find "bridge mode" in there) keep clicking on next until you find options to change the modem settings(PPPOE,PPPOA, blah blah) here you will find bridge mode . select it and save the connection . if you have two connections in WAN page , do the same for both . now head over to RASPPPOE - PPP over Ethernet Protocol by Robert Schlabbach and download the 0.98 version of raspppoe . read the readme file and set up your connection . a dialer will be created if you do it right . enter the user name and password in the connection dialog box . there you have it!

Now with this kind of connection , you can enter DNS servers of your choice :hap2: in the connection properties page . If you are a free Rapidshare user and find your chance has already been utlizied , you can disconnect your connection and reconnect . now with a different IP address , you can use Rapidshare :) . All this can be done without powering off your modem or rebooting it .

EDIT: for me , Robert Schlabbach's dialer over WINXP dialer :) .

you dont have to ..
go to control panel -> network connection -> make new connection -> connect to internet -> setup the connection manually -> Broadband connection -> enter ID & password..& connect..:)

speaking about airtel BB my connection has been realy flaky last 2 days.

Sunday early morning (2-3am) my net goes kaput and comes back only late evening.
Having frequent disconnections and the modem link keeps going down :@

seems stable for now dont know how long it will last :@

well seems like airtel has exhausted their bw and the times some people enjoy truly amazing speeds other people are suffering with bad pings/speeds:P
