Sony ICF-C218 Automatic Time Set Clock Radio (Black) is sold by Sony in India as well, so i dont think it should have that problem and would be supporting both voltage levels.

Cost in India is 1490 : source sony india website, ebay, rediff

somebody needs to boost up this GO, i want this alarm clock, even ICF-C318 is great.

My only requirement: it should be black in color.

I have no more faith left in my present alarm clock, it goes off as per its mood :(

I think have seen this model in USA and as far as I remember, it is operated by power. The battery is a button cell that is ONLY used to maintain time when there is a power loss. In fact, the unit does not operate when there is no power, it just maintains its internal clock so that you do not have to set the time when the power comes back on.

Im also interested in a cheap radio clock that will work well in India, so Im in case Im wrong.

This one too is a bettery operated clock.

Guys, I did not mean to disrupt the IC. I feel bad everytime I see my two radio clocks I got from the USA lying idle. So I thought I would warn.

On the contrary, your post was a good help.

Let's see if we can find a better alternative.

Of course, but the problem is not the voltage. USA operates on 120v that has a 60hz cycle. We operate on 240v with 50hz. Any device that depends on the voltage will work great with a converter. But the problem is that the converter just steps down the voltage, does not change the cycles.

In this case, the clock uses the cycles to calculate time, which means that it will constantly run slower with the converter. This is the real problem.

Can't we use some step down thing to step down our voltage ?

Katmadude has already quoted you guys around 1k + local shipping, you guys can contact the local sony dealers, you might get these for the same price as Katmandude. MRP is Rs.1490 for this product, for bulk orders you will get a discount for sure.

Guys, I do not want to put a dampener on the GO, but I would like to warn you all of a potential problem here.

When you buy a clock radio from the US (especially the cheapo ones), remember that these are made to work on 110v. The clocks being cheap use the 60hz cycle in the power supply to measure and calculate time. When we get this clock here and run it via a 110v-220v converter, the voltage is changed, but the cycle remains the same 50hz. So the clocks lose about a hour everyday. It is very frustrating and there is no solution to this !!!

So if you ever buy a clock radio from the US, get one that internally supports 110-240v and in this case, the clock itself adjusts the power cycles based on voltage. Otherwise, everyday when you wake up in the morning, the clock would have lost an hour.

I have two clock radios lying around in my house as paperweights. I did not know this and brought a second one again before knowledge dawned !

I completely agree with you Vinayaga. 1k + shipping is too much for an alarm clock. I thought that 800 is the maximum price. That too, if it doesn't work on India., it's utter waste to buy the product.

@var89: What's the model you've purchased? (I mean, the battery operated clock) Is it Sony or some other brand? Can you post the links of the product?
