Buying a set of speakers is probably one of the most difficult choice when it comes to hardware purchasing.The prime reason for this is the fact that speaker performance and features are, in fact quite subjective.I don't mean to say that there are not scientific tests to validate speakers - factors like frequency response,harmonic distorsion, sound pressure level(SPL) & dynamic range can all be objectively evaluated.

Before buying a speaker, first of all fix on ur budjet, you can then objectively look at what blend of application u will be running on your speakers & then you can drum down to their Specification & features accordingly..Speakers are broadly catagorized into 2.1 & 5.1 channel.
1) 2.1 channel -
It is for all you audiophiles there, u would want speakers that exhibit the best tonal response. 2.1 channel speakers are meant for audiophiles in the sense that they are ideally more suitable for Music...As, all music today is encoded for two channel playback,a 2.1 speaker system can pan & split the sound to its left & right channel easily with minimum signal loss.
