Buying a set of speakers is probably one of the most difficult choice when it comes to hardware purchasing. The prime reason for this is the fact that speaker performance and features are, in fact quite subjective.I don't mean to say that there are not scientific tests to validate speakers - factors like frequency response, harmonic distorsion, sound pressure level(SPL) & dynamic range can all be objectively evaluated.
so how does one approach buying a speaker? here you can find it
Before buying a speaker, first of all fix on ur budjet, you can then objectively look at what blend of application u will be running on your speakers & then you can drum down to their Specification & features accordingly..Speakers are broadly catagorized into 2.1 & 5.1 channel.

1) 2.1 channel -

It is for all you audiophiles there, u would want speakers that exhibit the best tonal response. 2.1 channel speakers are meant for audiophiles in the sense that they are ideally more suitable for Music...As, all music today is encoded for two channel playback,a 2.1 speaker system can pan & split the sound to its left & right channel easily with minimum signal loss.
some of the best available 2.1 speakers are..

> Bose companion 3.............Rs 14200
> Klipsch Promedia GMXA..........Rs 9300
> Klipsch iGroove iPod..............Rs 11500
> Creative Megeworks 250D......Rs 9500
> Altec lansing MX 5021...........Rs 6300
> Altec lansing CS21................Rs 5200
> Altec lansing FX 6021............Rs 8000
> Artis S-700.........................Rs 2500
> Logitech Z4........................Rs 5200
> Logitech Z2300...................Rs 7500
> Logitech X-230...................Rs 2000

2) 5.1 Channel -

Freak gamers don't like 2.1 Channel speakers, these freak
mohicans would miss out loads of thrills & exitement & surround sound
with 2.1 channel speakers... Thus, 5.1 Channel is what they are meant for-DVD Movies, gaming & ofcourse music aswell. If you're a movie buff aswell as game mohican , u would want speakers that are essential suited to deliver best surround sound experience with adequate power & support for standards like. Dolby Digital 5.1(Dolby AC-3), Dolby Pro Logic II, DTS, THX, Dolby digital EX & DTS ES.
some of the best avalaible 5.1 channel speakers are...

> Klipsch Pro media Ultra 5.1.........Rs 26500
> Logitech Z5500D..........................Rs 19500
> Creative Megeworks 550................Rs 17500
> Creative Gigaworks G500................Rs 22300
> Altec Lansing FX5051....................Rs 10500
> Logitech Z5300............................Rs 10200
> Artis X10/Mini..............................Rs 10500
> Creative Inspire GD580..................Rs 12500
> Logitech X-530............................Rs 5200
> Creative Inspire 5200....................Rs 3800
> Altec Lansing 251i........................Rs 3200
> Artis S6600R...............................Rs 7200
> Philips MMS 5.500i/c.....................Rs 4000
> Philips HTR 5000...........................Rs 10300

Make sure, before buying a speaker listen to the speaker in a showroom. Infact, take a set of ur favourite audio,MP3 & movie discs to the showroom & have them audition the speaker with the sound you like to hear. Remember that no matter what the salesperson or ur friend say, the final proof of a speaker system is that it appeals to your tastes.

no AL vs4121?? the ATP3 replacement..

and Bose+GMX.. get ready for some flaming...

(no offence... just warning you :) )

nice job.. but do take the effort next time to format your post a lil. makes reading a lot more easier.

ps- i really dont see how you can call this a 'Speaker buying Guide'.. its more of a price guide.

might wanna recheck the pricing on the logitech Z2300.. Rs5200 is too cheap for it.. i think it sells for above Rs 9,000 locally

good one...i think price guide serves the purpose well.....buying guides are all around the place

no love for audioengine?

good attempt, but do a bit more research. Your criteria seem to be flawed. It would seem as if you need some guiding yourself w.r.t this. A noob trying to guide noobs would indeed be a unfortunate

I wouldnt call this a guide, this seems more like a price list, but then again, the prices are wrong as well.

+1 !

A 'speakers' guide should not have only the most expensive models..
add some entry level, reasonably priced models as well..

where's the creative inspire 2.1 and the Altec Lansing 2.1 models??

The whole idea is to list out the best among the reasonably priced, easily available systems...

make it more comprehensive;)......
yep i was startld to wen i cudnt see vs4121....also arent creative 5.1 t6060 better than inspire 5200??....
