VanishingNerd said:I got an audition of the MX5021 at Imagine and I must say I was disappointed. The bass is still not as punchy as I would like. I played Hotel California on it and the song was way too bass heavy, even after twiddling with the knobs. Also tried a Harmon Kardon set they had lying and those were simply crap. The source was a nano they had lying around. Haven't found anywhere else to audition stuff yet.

Monitors are bit tiring to listen to for long period of time. They are mostly for production purposes, hence the word 'studio' in the title.
VanishingNerd said:I wont mind increasing the budget, but I need to have an idea what to get. 10-12k was a figure for a starting point. If I can not get anything decent in that price range, I will go for higher say uptill 20k even.
Gannu said:20k should get you something like Wharfedale 9.1 + a used amp or a Norge 2060 for slightly more which'd blow most of the setups like the AE2s/Klipsch Promedia 2.0 and the likes.
The Wharfs 9.1s are kinda old but for under 20k I guess you cant ask for more. The 9.1 should set you back by around 11~12k.
Some better and slightly expensive alternatives being the Monitor Audio Bronze Br1 and the Tannoy Mercury F1s (around 14k a pair?). But not very sure if these're exactly suited for classical music. Someone else could help.
