I've played the classic way back. It was gory back then and it's even gorier right now. I'm picking this one up for sure, just hope the campaign is long enough. The GT preview looked totally kick-ass.

Allwyn what is your take on this one? I suppose you must have played this by now. The X-3-shitty title had come up already! :P

I played the first couple of checkpoints on the 'Savage' difficulty and it's average so far. The gore is all over the place and you'll witness so much blood being splattered on the screen that you are almost blinded at some point, which is understandable since the title is Splatterhouse. It's a virtual blood bath. The graphics are decent enough. Soundtrack is completely hard rock. Dialogues are cheap as they are trying to fuse the 80's feel to the game. The gameplay is pretty much like any other generic hack-en-slash title. One thing to note is that it's not easy, not on the Savage difficulty at least. Your health will drain pretty quickly even with the slightest hit. Story is "Save-THY-Girlfriend-from-the-evil-Doctor" type, so nothing new there.

The inital part is a bit difficult, mainly because Rick is just possessed by the "Mask's" power and is slowly growing to learn new moves. So it mainly just punches which are thrown around. As you progress, you get hold of nailed 2x4's, dismembered body parts, which you can use to your advantage. But they won't last forever, as it's limited use only. I'm sure you'll have more stuff in the coming levels.

For those who have played the side scrolling classic, this isn't anything like it. It a completely re-vamped game. Plus you get to unlock all the 3 arcade titles as you keep progressing through the main game. I'd say it's a pretty decent game. I'll continue with this as soon as I'm done with Marton's Undead Nightmare trip.

Just completed the game. Not bad, not bad at all. The last 2-3 levels were agonising and my controller really took a bashing with all those QTE's. Unlocked quite a lot of Jen's spicy pics and boy does she look SEX-AY in those photos. ;)

The end indicated a sequel and I'll be glad if it pulls through. The frame rates were extremely wobbly throughout the game. Difficulty levels would spike in an uneven manner. The CGI cut-scenes were brilliantly done. The gore level exceeded on every level. Dialogues were hilarious and cheesy, a common factor for 80's based flicks and games. Total fun if you enjoy these type of games.

Completed the first 2 phases on Savage difficulty yesterday. I am completely impressed by the new genre that Splatterhouse has defined. Never before have I played a game that has such intense gore and blood - decapitations, impalements, disembowelments, severed limbs and torsos, spilled intestines, this shit is miles ahead of torture pr0n! :ohyeah:

The storyline is pretty good and I love the way it progresses. Plenty of combos to be unlocked with the blood points. And the combos are pretty easy and doable coming from a Jap. developer. The kills are extremely gory and the screen and the floor is completely covered in blood. Splatter kills (like the fatality moves in MK) are the worst of the lot! The voice of the mask speaks to Rick during the game and is witty and sarcastic. And sometimes equally annoying! This is very similar to the voice that speaks to the dark prince in POP: The Two Thrones. It appears each phase (essentially chapter) ends with a boss battle and the one at the second phase was awesome! QTE executions are good and I seem to miss it the first time because it is quick? :ashamed:

I am a sucker for slasher films and I loved this very game that mimics the movie genre. The protagonist of the game Rick, reminds me of Jason (hint hint - my avatar) with the hockey-mask'ish mask.

Did I mention the protagonist's girlfriend Jenny is hawt? Hell yeah baby she sure is and there are plenty of snaps (some of them NSFW!) to be unlocked as the phases are completed. The pieces of snaps are strewn around the level and Rick needs to collect them. Collect all the pieces and you have a snap! Unlocked one such snap for the second phase and it was :drool2:

Crap, I feel like bunking the office now! :ashamed:

Couldn't game on Thursday evening since I had a dinner meet with the client. As a compensation, I had a bloody marathon yesterday evening and completed 6 phases in a single sitting. Phase 3 to Phase 9. What an awesome time it was!

Rick-o boy is now stronger and healthier as ever. Upgraded a whole of combos and unlocked some of Jenny baby's snaps. Some of the level designs have been done nicely and intuitively - the wastelands, the park, West's mansions to name a few. Thus, a map isn't required at all and I think the developers have done a pretty much straight forward approach here. Another good addition is the side-scrolling gameplay found in few levels. I loved this one and brings back some good ol' memories of playing the first game on the 8-bit NES. The heavy metal soundtracks during the fight sequences are awesome!

The only downside is the frame drops during intense fight sequences. Drops so bad, heck my roomie was like OMFG at the PS3 while he saw the sequence as he was passing by. :ashamed:

I intend to complete the game by tonight so I can begin Alan Wake with a phresh mind tomorrow morn. :D

The first arcade game was never released on the NES, nor were any of it's sequels.

Could be the Sega then. Not sure which one was it but have played it using one of those cartridges which I recall very well. I never owned a Sega though.

--- Updated Post - Automerged ---

Completed the game a while back. Thanks to the late-night movie session (Tron: Legacy) with friends, the plan went haywire and had to complete the last 2 phases today morn. :@

The ending was quite decent although I expected some sort of boss fight. Turns out that it was easier than that. Anyhow the game was quite awesome. Loved everything other than the frame drops and the long loading sequences. Wish there was a patch that addressed this issue - seems both the platforms had their releases screwed. The ending definitely hinted a sequel. So let me sum up the experience this way:

The good: Good storyline, heavy metal OSTs, intense gory sequences, the combat system, intuitive level design with side-scrolling gameplay, 3 unlockable classic games and ofc Jenny baby.

The bad: Severe frame drops during combat, loading sequences.

Final verdict: 8/10
