PC Peripherals Squeak noise??

A momentary sound from the PC like a squeak could either be
1)a fan.
2) CD/DVD drive reading a CD.

If you can replace the fans, you might be able to determine whether at all, the noise is connected to your boot up problem(my concern is whether the squeak is actually a grind or some kind of HDD failure noise).

It might just be moisture/dampness. My old room used to be sea facing, and my comp wouldn't start unless I used a hair dryer on it, on really rainy days. Once it was on, it used to run without problems for weeks on end.

Try it and see if it helps.

^^ yup it was possibly due to moisture as it rained heavily during that time. the pc is going okay for last 2-3 days now. i have no idea when it will stop working again..lol.

btw, another issue for which i don't want to start a new thread...so posting it here only. i've noticed some kind of sound coming from the back of my dell lcd monitor. its kinda inaudible unless u hear it carefully by keeping your ear very close to the back of the monitor. i'd never have noticed it but it all happened by chance. :P

just wanted to know if its a normal behavior or if there's something wrong with the monitor? i've been changing the positions of my pc peripherals lately so i'm unsure if that squeak noise i'd complained about earlier is related or not. the only change this time is that it (the noise) is constantly there when there's display on the monitor.

What kind of noise- please be a little more specific. :)
(you are not very good at describing sounds- and maybe thread titles too. :P)

Well, do you have a fan mounted on your cabinet side panel? If it isnt tightly fit, there is a possibility of squeaking sound. Same goes for fans attached to the back panel or the front panel as well. Apart from this, are there any vibrations when you touch the cabinet when the PC is turned on? - if yes, then its a possibility that it was caused due to the loosely fitted fan. As for the auto start thing, its possible that you have a faulty button. However, do check on the BIOS settings too!!!

Pappu: and btw, the SQUEAK noise is from the MOUSE!!!

lame i know

Apex: don't think its the mouse coz i cud hear the noise even b4 booting into windows.

Maybe you have a female mouse wallpaper and your mouse really gets exited as soon as you hit that power button :bleh:

Try changing the wallpaper ;)

lol..i know but i'm sure the first time i heard it, it sounded more like a squeak. though i'm still not sure if the two problems are related. i don't get that squeak noise anymore. so i can only assume its solved for now. :P

as for this sound that comes from behind the lcd...its more like a buzz which is kinda high pitched and umm..low volume. :P its so low that i don't even notice it unless i keep my ears very close to the back of the monitor...which naturally i won't do while i'm working on my pc. :lol: just wanted to know if its normal coz i don't remember if i heard such noice coming from it before. since it doesn't bother me as much and the monitor is under warranty, who cares. :P

Yes to the first question. No to the second question. and BIOS?? I haven't touched it since ages. :P

Noise from the LCD??? :S

Apex sir, I guess the problem is with ur ears being extremely sensitive to sound or a condition called Hyperacusis; :bleh:

Here:

Hyperacusis

All the above symptoms lead to that possible conclusion; :P

J/k;

BTW did u manage a newer build; I believe u'd asked for suggestions from a thread sometime back; :)

rofl...nice conclusion :lol:

nope...haven't got the new one yet...wait for a few more days. :P

I was abt to say that since Intel's announcing the price reductions for mainstream 45nm Dual Cores along with the launch of the E8600 [yet another useless proccy :P]; :)

Sangram sir has heard that iirc- even when he listens in close to the front of the LCD.
He noticed it first on a very HOT evening when everything else was shut and he was in between tracks or something.
It gets louder on HOT days and barely audible but audible on cooler days, now that he has heard it- you know how that works na. :P
His conclusion, there is a small fan in his DELL 3008 somewhere, cooling something. :)
He can also feel a slight updraft of hot air at the top vents and maybe there is a fan indeed- for cooling the LCD(similar to case ventilation) or the invertor for the ccfls or some power circuitry.
But the updraft can also be natural due to the convection of heat.
Hot air goes up and cool air comes in from the sides.
And that buzzing can also be from the invertor for the CCFLs or some power circuitry/coils or something else due to heat build-up or power fluctuations. :ashamed:

thanx bikey...i've googled a bit and came up with this -

PRAD | FAQ

its very close to my problem if not the exact same one. according to it, the sound comes from the backlight inverter and depends on the selected brightness value of the lcd screen. you can check the link provided as it contains the technical background and is well explained. :D

Rainy season => higher probability of lightning damage. Given it is India surges possible from both hardline internet connection as well as mains. I guess mains must be isolated through spike buster, please disconnect lan wire when raining. Lost a lot many components to lightning in the past :( .

^^^hehe true I'd say;

The nostalgia of my old HP Pavilion PC just struck me; lost only my modem and the mainboard though; :ashamed:

BTW Apex sir, just read that link; thanx for that info;

After all, ur ears aint as bad as I guessed; :bleh:
