I've got a friend coming from the States in August 1st week.

Firstly which store would be the best and possibly cheapest for ordering stuff and delivering to him? I only know of amazon and newegg

1. Getting an 8800GTX, brands I have in mind are OCZ, Evga, Foxconn. Since I plan on a HR03 too, should I go for a factor OCed model or stock?

2. I plan on a good set of circumaural headphones. Sennheiser? Which model? Cause the HD580 that I had in mind is no longer available...Any successor to the HD580 I don't know about?

Suggestions...

Wats wrong with newegg? Far as I know they have the best prices. Dont they have what you want in stock?

Oh and btw their shipping ROCKS. They say they will ship in 3 days, but its more likely your friend will receive the stuff within three days.

Thats the same thing :S Its max 3 days.

Yup newegg is the best. check out ChiefValue.com - shopping, buy Computer parts and accessories, ipod accessories, collectable toys and model kits too (thx to Chaos for this) . Its the same company as newegg but for some reason many products are marked slightly cheaper. Some cheaper here, some there. You can compare n work out the best option.

If you have a US issued credit card, then only you can order from neya andaa because they do not accept international credit cards. I have found ordering from amazon to be cheap and reliable.

what's your budget?

It all depend on that.

For Sub $ 100 the best bang for buck will be Grado SR 80.

Amazing cans for the price. It trounces many cans which are much more expensive.

Funky I read up on these and the SR60 which a fellow office buddy has and is bringing them for me to use for a day. The basic thing is I am afraid these will be uncomfortable for long use (say up to 5-6 hours) Mostly music, and gaming then movies (in that order). I say uncomfy cause supra aural cans do put pressure on ear cartilage unlike circumaurals which completely cover the ear, and the padding is wrapped around it and not on the ear. Lemme use the SR60 and see how I like the comfort part.

I don't have a huge budget but can go up to 8000 rupees (around 180 odd US). I won't be buying any cans after this cause I have a set of EP630s and Sony Fontopia in-ears for portability. So the decision better be good yaar first time round

Some options besides the grado's

Newegg.com - SENNHEISER HD555 3.5mm/ 6.3mm Connector Circumaural Stereo Headphone - Retail

Newegg.com - AKG K181DJ 3.5mm Connector Circumaural Closed Back DJ Headphones - Retail

Am also looking at the HD580 if I can find a store who's stocks haven't dried up.

What about the Sony MDR-F1?

Will any other good AKG headphones fit the bill? The AKG K601 and K501??

Is audio technica good?
Buy.com - Audio Technica ATH-PRO700SV Professional Open-Air Dynamic Monitor Headphones - ATH-PRO700SV

Buy.com - Audio Technica ATH-AD300 Full-Size Open-Air Dynamic Headphones - ATH-AD300

Buy.com - Audio Technica ATH-AD500 Full-Size Open-Air Dynamic Headphones - ATH-AD500
Please help...

what kind of music you listen to... that can help to decide the brand accordingly for the budget. :)

Mostly rock, country, easy listening, a bit of reggae, I'm more a fan of good music other than genre though.

Here are a few of my favorite artists - dire straits, faith hill, elton john, kylie minogue, eric carmen, belinda carlisle, boyzone, BSB to name a few.

Can you suggest anything to suit my tunes?

Where in the States is you friend, that's like saying I have a friend in the world somewhere... where should he order from :P

I live in California and may be able to at least give you some options if you can tell me what part of this rather large country he is in :)

Well, for graphics cards newegg, zzf and buy.com have good deals. depends on time and brand. So check for you particular card at those sites and go for the cheapest store. Some times, frys has some great offers. Few of them are online only and most of the offers are store offers only. If your friend lives near one, ask him to check for local paper adds on it.

you should consider the following

1. sennheiser hd 595 - great for vocals and natural sound.
2. grado sr-225 - close to 200 $ but a more fun sounding can and goes well with rock / metal music.
3. alessandro ms-1 - a more neutral sounding grado sound around 100 $ but availability is always an issue , you will get it but delayed

i would recommend the hd-595 for you :)

Sorry friend no offense. Being in India we tend to say US, UK etc without mentioning regions. Heck I doubt most of us (me included) even know all the regions except what we've seen...

In reply to your query my friend's in Florida.

^^ Puns thanks for that, and the HD595 seems a steal at the price. You've got rep:P

I'm also looking at memory ddr2 800 (i've become extravagant since the ddr2 price drop)

I'm undecided between 2x1GB and 2x2 GB, or simply buying two 2x1 GB kits...

I know most of you guys will go 'phooo' but I like the look of the corsair dominators...decent enough for a regular user like me?

I know this sounds silly for memory but I kinda like bright orange, black, or silver/white heatspreaders...

I'm looking for moderate timings like 4-4-4-12 @ 800 MHz.

If ur friend is ok with MIRs, go for Crucial Ballistix 800 or 1066 sticks

For non MIR ones - G.Skill HZ or if you don't overclock much, go for HK series.

Honestly... no offense taken... Actually, I thought it kind of funny ;)

That's also why I asked, I don't know Florida at all ;) If it had been in California, there are many many good places to buy hardware. California is a jump off point for a lot of hardware companies, and it is often easier to obtain hard to find stuff.

Get the fans from jab-tech.com or sidewindercomputers.com, its lot cheaper there

you can get ultra-120 from mumbai itself unless you are saving a lot

the mems are worth getting from there. I think you missed all the MIR goodies by few days.

Lets hope for more MIR... they keep coming on and off.

MIR, MIR, MIR, MIR yoo hoo :P

Thanks for the advice on sidewinder, its 16$ as opposed to 24$
