PC Peripherals Stuff from US

I'd not go for a lot of stuff with MIR, specially OCZ, I never got one, they have a Policy that the form should be dated in 10 days of purchase date, and it's hard to do that. Just order stuff without MIR. (Infact I never got MIR on anything till date, I just dont look at those rebates anymore.)

MIRs are real pita, if i were to get something for someone I would avoid it. But if things are properly done, its not a problem.

Its not a good option for lazy bumms like me.

^^ Thanks guys, I'm new to all this. Could you explain in brief how this money in rebate thing works, and what my friend should do to avail of it. See he comes down by the 6th of august. He'll be india for 6 weeks after which he returns.

Should be order now, or wait till a month before leaving??? He is very eager to get the MIR benefit. It'd benefit my wallet too.

The MIR is different for different companies, depends on who handles the MIR for the company u are purchasing the product of.

In any case, what u have to do is snailmail a form to them, and they send u back a cheque in few months, but it's not as good as it looks on paper, otherwise they would just sell he thing at that price if they wanted to. They check a thousand things, and don't give MIR for insane reasons. Order stuff that has no MIR, or if it's a good deal upfront, forget the MIR while ordering, and then still if there are things in ur card with MIR, u can tell him to give it a shot.

In my opinion, just order the stuff before he is leaving, stay put for a while. I've made mistakes of hurrying up and ordering stuff beforehand, and ended up having to sell stuff at price lower than I got. If he is ordering stuff for you, I mean he has the cash, and u are gonna pay him wen he comes here, it will be better, If u are ordering from here, and getting it shipped to him, u better have Paypal, and be ready to pay more.

I have also purchased used Items in US and got them shipped to my friends there, and actually, I find that more easier and hassle-free. In any case, I have always ended up paying a lot more than the prices that seem there, u pay shipping, u pay more because all stores don't take international Credit card, those that take, usually don't offer good prices. I even had to bear the 5.4% fee paypal charges on CC transactions in past.

Actually, its not that scary. The thing is your friend should follow the exact things given in the form.

1. As soon as he gets the package, print out the form (or maybe have it ready by the time it arrives) and fill the things

2. Make a copy of packaging slip and mark the item he is send the MIR for

3. Cut the upc code from the box (the bar code thing). In case of crucial ram, ask him to cut both from the box and also from the antistatic bag inside, lot of confusion going around on this one.

3. Once he has all these, let him make a copy of everything, in case something goes wrong.

4. Mail all these in an envelope to the given address. Ask him to do this within one or two days of getting the package.

Actually, its not as difficult as it looks. but ppl get lazy once they get the stuff. If you want to save all these for your friend, just get an alternative one.

I would suggest you to go for G.Skill HZ, there should also be a coupon code floating around the net for this. And if you are ok with 4gb and not much of any oc options, you can have a look at the patriot deal I have posted in the deals section.

Thanks!! :) Those instructions are copy pasted in a word file that's being mailed to him even as we speak...

I saw some CCFL's on sidewinder computers, also the 120mm s-flex (63 cfm) and a 92mm panaflo or something (for the HR03 plus) not decided on the GPU cooling though, guess I'll see how hot the card runs.

Phew...I'm getting excited already. I've been out of the PC upgrade thingy due to work and some business problems back home (my lovely Jabalpur) but fully intend to catch up now...

If you are sending in a rebate, you will ALWAYS need to have a copy of the receipt, and in many cases the UPC code (a special bar code that needs to be cut off the box) from the the item. The way most of these companies get you is laziness, there is always a cutoff date that you need to have the rebate sent in by, many people just don't bother until it is too late. If the rebate does not arrive at the rebate center by the date specified, you can kiss it goodbye, as an auto disqualification.

I just received a rebate check of $20.00 from Logitech that took about 5 months to receive.

Personally, I think they are a royal pain in the ass :P They always seem a lot better at the time of purchase ;)

Another thing I've been meaning to ask - OCZ claims to use "high binned" G80 cores on their 8800gtx's. Generally this is a vendor thing, as in the bigger vendors get better bins. Now is this some sort of a guarantee or just marketing hype? Does this also mean I have a chance of getting a low binned part if I go evga?

OK some things are confirmed...awaiting word from my cuz as to how much he can carry...

The PSU and new HDD's should be here this weekend, cabby will probably be a cheiftec GX-01, though I'm trying so hard to get an RC830 through jugad :P

Any comments on the choice of headphones? reviews I've read seem to rate these above the senny HD595.

do not get the cheiftec GX-01 for a 8800GTX

buy a Chieftec LBX or BH only :ohyeah:

btw i recommend you 4GB RAM if you are gonna use Vista :)

Nvidia slashes 8800 Ultra price

you might just want to hold on a bit :)

Actually I don't agree...

For a 800 US$ card becoming 700 or even 650 US it just performs 3-10% more than a GTX. So even at 600 US the GTX is still well priced at 525~550 US. Besides its not like they have competition...

of course I may be wrong, and thanks for the suggestion. And he is coming end of July (30th or so) so there's still some time :)

Udit, no plans for Vista yet. I use it @ office though. Will move to it and then see, right now speed is a priority for memory not volumes. I could get 4GB here easily...

Vandal, try for items with no MIR and more of cash discounts as MIR take 3-6 months to process..

Also, for RAM try OCX as they have pretty good deals at the moment..

About the 8800, going for a 640Mb seems like a better idea in my opinion as it offers better value for money.

One more suggestion on the headphones. If you wanna spurge then go ahead with the HD595 but another good headphone you may wanna check out is the Sennheiser HD 280 pro.

Bought it last month and the sound quality on it is excellent!

Price Grabber price: HD 280

Well, wat the hell!! If u got the cash to burn, then by all means get the HD 595!! :ohyeah:
