Friends,

Looking for 500 GB / 1 TB 2.5 Inch External HDD..

If 1 TB is more VFM then will go with it Or will go with 500 GB. Purchase from India only as can claim warranty easily & there is no huge diff in price in US & India.

Shortlisted - WD & Seagate.

WD - No Specific model found, Still will give 1st preference due to their home pick/drop onsite warranty.

Seagate -
Seagate FreeAgent Go 500 GB - 3700 Rs (3 years warranty)
Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex 500 GB - 3 years warranty - 3169 Rs
Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex 1TB - 5850

Are prices right or even can get it cheap ? Will try to use Ebay coupon.

Unable to find Seagate FreeAgent Go with 5 years warranty :(

I recently bought a Buffalo 500GB for 2398 shipped with Rs.500 ebay coupon. Buffalo offers door pick-up.

BTW, Seagate stopped giving 5 years warranty on external drives...

I also bought a Buffalo HDD 500 Gb from Ebay for 2750 a while back its really fast with its turbo feature.

I am satisfied with it.

Go for seagate or buffalo hard drive, dont get a WD drive as other members are facing a lot of problems for RMA.

Thanks for help guys.

Didnt know about Buffalo.. Will check them out.

@sajitsm

Hows their door pick up service, I guess even Buffalo has onsite contract with Accel Frontline Limited.

I had seen few Seagate offers with 5 yrs warranty,, dont know where did it disappear..

Just checked with Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex.. Does it come with some Extra adapter to connect with Internal SATA 3.5 inch HDD via USB without need of casing ?

NO I don't think so even if Seagate ends up launching such an adapter contraption you'll not get in the basic bundle along with the Hard Disk you'll need to pay for it and then also it will be compatible with only Seagate Go Flex models, here is a list of cables you can buy for your Go Flex HDD GoFlex | External hard drive | Portable hard drive | Desktop Hard Drive | Backup Files | Seagate

I don't like the restrictions so imposed + you pay 500/- premium on any other External HDD just cause it is GO FLEX, by the way USB 3.0 cable from Seagate for the HDD is 1.5K

I bought a regular Transcend HDD and am pretty Satisfied with its performance :) 640GB ~ 3.5K/ 500 GB ~ 2.8K hope this helps

@ALPHA17

I did see some TE member's post that Seagate gives 3.5 SATA Adapter with 2.5 HDD, I m not sure if it was Flex or Flex Pro.. Do u know about on it ?

Which would be best bet in 500 GB & 1 TB 2.5 inch segment ?

I think it will be the Flex Pro but you have to but it separate from bundle, as in you will not get it with the HDD package you'll have to spend another ~ 1K for that is simply not worth it in my view.

Oh got it.. I thought its all bundled. Anyways could not find Flex Pro in market & sounds too costly.
Better take 1000 Rs External SATA casing rather then waiting for adapter.

Did anyone take Seagate FreeAgent Go 500 GB with 5 yrs warranty ? Please give vendor's name.
Not able to find one with 5 yrs warranty, Dont mind old stock :)

^

Sees like a gimmick to me the only HDD that I have trust to take a beating is the Transcend StoreJet 25M2.

@ALPHA17

Ehh This one is something with U.S.military drop-test standards MIL-STD-810F 516.5 procedure IV (transit drop test) with advanced two-stage anti-shock technology,

Have no idea on U.S.military drop-test standards, Did it happen to fall from your hands :) ?

Found 25M2 - 500 GB one with 3100 Rs, Is it a good price ?

Personally, Seagate, WD & Transcend are all with 3 years warranty, so its just one among them now.

@praks : if the hdd is going to keep very important precious data than take seagate / hitachi.

If its only movie backup solution you can take the cheapest deal available with reputed person and apply the biggest coupan you have :)

^^

It dropped a couple of times damn reliable and I found speeds better than Seagate Go's and Essentials in most cases so I thought it would be good for most situations but the RMA of Transcend is SHit so I will say go for Seagate 7/10 but as HDD's are pretty hardy please look at Transcend if you don't mind anomaly RMA situation.

@ALPHA,

That's valuable view. By the way, Transcend & Seagate as well few other RMA in Bangalore handled by ACCEL FRONTLINE SERVICES only.

so just wondering how come Seagate/WD has better service then Transcend as both are handled by same vendor from same building.

No idea about that but Transcend RMA services have been trashed a lot here on TE like with ASUS so its a caution, can be wrong about this now that Accel handles this :).

In deal of the week on ebay a 1TB 2.5" ext Toshiba has appeared at under Rs 4900/-

Great bang for buck.
