Ard 6k in cans you can opt for the sennheiser hd-555 or maybe a shure 440(price might be a lil higher).

If 7.5k, then you got the ath-m50 or audio technicas ad-700, ATH-esw7.

Im not sure about the lower audio technicas, aka the ath-35 or the ath-500's etc. Headphones last for a long time and i suggest you extend your budget a bit and get a good can once and for all.

There was a member in the mkt section selling his barely used ath-m50 for 6k. You should have a look at it..

ps: mind you, all the cans that i have mentioned above carry different sound signatures. Read up properly about their SS and match it with your personal preference towards sound.

^^ what are the options at around 6k?

I believe that there is so much to learn in audio department. SQ depends on endless factors. Since you are upgrading from EP-630 I believe you should take a shorter step. I would recommend you to get something like HD 428 or some other in price range of 3-4k. 3-4K headphones won't require an amp. After you learn technicalities of audio, you can go for costlier headphones.

I was using SHP 1900 and w810i along with stock earphones and then I got HD 428. Trust me after proper burn in time, I started feeling that I haven't heard some particular songs which I actually did long ago. The reason was detailing. I could hear effects and other sounds which used to get curbed earlier on. For me it was a good enough upgrade.

For really good sound experience people will suggest to get a best player in the market like some sansa clip or cowonj3, a good amp and professional series headphones. I am not saying that they are wrong but just ask yourself do you need that now? when you are upgrading from Ep-630?

As logical as satan194p's argument is, just increase the budget and be done with it :P

First page - 2K, third page - 6K. If you don't decide till the 15th page - that's when things will be interesting :ohyeah:.... You can either get a mid-level custom IEM and be done once in for all or opt for a good headphone like HD600 or DT880/600 or similar + spend the other 15K for a decent amp (Matrix M-Stage should do).

Why take half measures, eh?

Seriously, as you move up the price ladder, you don't aim for buying "THA best", because there's no THA ONE. You need to be very careful in choosing something that suits your tastes and preferences. I for one think that the sound signature of an IEM / Headphone > Genre preference. So with an IEM I like, I can listen to most of my music library. But for most others, it is the reverse. You need to spend more time researching how YOU want the music to sound. Otherwise, if you make a wrong choice, there's an additional bout of selling and buying something else there.

Recommendations can be easily provided at any range because there are universal IEMs available till $2500 (Final Audio Piano Forte X-CC) and headphones up-to $30,000 (HE90 With Matching Amp - Sennheiser Orpheus HE 90 and HEV 90 - the set | eBay, Headphone alone - Sennheiser HE90 - warning large pics, Here's another - Sony MDR R10s (Bass-lights)).

My budget - max 2000
I vote for the MP21!! Costs just 1150 (by dealer here in TE) :)
Really worth the money if you dont want to spend much.

Firstly I need to know about earphones & headphones. Which are more comfort to ears ? Do headphones offer more & better audio quality since they are bulky ? If yes, then I will go with headphones as portability doesn't matter me much.
Here, i'll say "Headphones". But the con is they are bulky like you mentioned. I guess everything has its owns pros and cons..

I have PL 11 and they have insane bass
"Insane" bass? I have the same but imo i wont say it to be "insane". Heck i'm setting my N79 phone equalizer to "Bass Booster" to get the max! -_-
