Hey Guys,

Planning to buy a i7 3770.
I had earlier ordered a asus z68 mobo but its taking time to come. So need to look at alternatives.

Requirements:
  • Overclocking not a must
  • ISB 3.0 - 2 back panel and 2 front panel would be great
  • Nothing else apart from the above
  • Third party such as Gigabyte would be preferred to Intel as those would be cheaper
  • Budget around 5k-7K

SSD
Also looking at a SSD of size 60-120 GB.
Suggest a Brand please. I am looking at the below options
  • Corsair - No idea about series
  • Intel

Work

Primary work is watching movies and playing games.
Other work is CAD, and some image editing

Thanks a ton in advance guys;););););)

Thanks a lot Dr:)
Will go for the above SSD's

BTW: Guys pls pls suggest me a motherboard:(

#dr .sankhadeep Any ideas on the motherboard?

  1. I am being suggested a MSI ZH77A-G41 by my dealer.
  2. My initial choice was Gigabyte ZH77A-G41 which he outright rejected saying that its a old generation chipset with minimal features:(
  3. Also finally would ASUS P8Z68-V LXbe a better choice than the above mobo's?

Any ideas and recommendations?:unsure::unsure:

Just a quick pointer...the Z77 series is mainly for overclocking. I've been using the Intel DH77EB motherboard which has been brilliant so far. Cost me 6k in Bangalore.

I also got the OCZ Vertex 4 128GB drive. Cost me 7.5k.

@vercetti this is what I suggest --

Intel Core i7 3770 ~18000/-
Intel DH77-KC ~6500/-
OCZ Vertex4 128GB / 256GB ~7250/- / 14500/- OR Corsair Neutron 120GB GTX ~9000/- (from onlyssd.com)

Hope this helps, Cheerio!

Thanks #ALPHA17
Any alternatives to the intel motherboard? not quite interested in shelling out extra moolah for a mobo from intel

Compared to what you get, nothing quite reaches the value the Intel motherboard offers --
  • Full-ATX layout
  • USB 3.0 front and rear
  • Fully featured rear I / O panel
  • Support for legacy components with PCI slots
  • H77 chipset.
If you want an alternative, the GIGABYTE-B7M-D3H is the next best thing out there. Cheers!

howz MSI ZH77A-G41?

  • Its also full ATX
  • USB 3 and both front and back USB ports
  • Military grade components as per thier ads
  • 2 SATA 3 Ports
  • SLI
  • and probably cheaper

Pricing wise it might be around the ~7000/- -->8000/- mark because it is a full-ATX motherboard + Z77 chipset based offering --

I would not recommend it because --
  • Incomplete I / O set in the rear panel, no support for S/PDIF based audio components.
  • SATA ports are not angled.
  • No SLi support only AMD's CrossFireX.
  • Real-world SATA II and SATA III performance is at par, unless you plan to add an SSD. Even so the Intel board also features 2x SATA III ports.
Sorry, to me the Intel board seems a better deal.

Hope this answers your query. Cheerio!

if you are not planning to Overclock, dont need RAID and not planning to add more than 1 SSD, i will suggest to go with Gigabyte B75-D3H. Will save you good amount of money which you can use to get a better SSD.

Is buying a refurbished motherboard a good choice? or its too risky thing to do which would endanger the RAM and processer?

I am planning to buy a ASUS P8Z68-V LX motherboard which is refurbished motherboard with 3 months warranty. Is this a good choice

Risky to put it at-the least considering it is a refurbished piece with such limited warranty. Also, the older Z68 chipset will mean that RAM will downclock to ~1333MHz and Ivy-Bridges power gating techniques might not be fully utilized.

Hope this helps. Cheers!

Merry Christmas to u too.

I checked reviews but none talk about MLC's as such but they do say that these babies give a read speed of 550MBPS and write speed of 540MBPS which to me looked more than vertex 4

Which controller and MLC system is the SanDisk SSD based on? All performance and reliability metrics boil down to that and a lot of chance.

@ALPHA17
Just checked and found out that this has 'toggle MLC'
Does this answer ur question?

@vercetti, it has a SandForce MLC and controller system at its heart, I suggest that you try to go for a OCZ Vertex4 through an Amazon deal. If not possible then think of snapping this one up.

The MLC and controller on the OCZ and Crucial M4 are better than the SandForce controller's + MLC that are at the heart of the majority drives in the market.

Hope this helps, Cheerio!
