Hello Friends,

Just come to Know.

ICICI BANK and our Finance Minister (FM) have some STRONG relation.

Just like FM ICICI BANK to in continuous SEARCH on how to make Hole to Consumers Pocket and levy different charges with golden slogan "Service Charges" those changes are apart form Standard Service Charges.

Incident

One of my friend used to get Small checks by Google Adsense from last 2-3 years, ICICI( BANK charge my Friend as per Slip, i.e. if using one slip he deposited 1 or up to 10 Foreign Currency cheques, charges was 280/- only.

But from Jan-07 ICICI BANK start charging Per Check, my friend deposit One $100 check from Google and 2 small amount. checks i.e. $25 and $45, ICICI BANK charge him 280x3=840/-, while in last 2-3 yrs they charge 280/- only for up to 10 cheques.

Now calculate $100+$25+$45=$170xRs.44.00=7480, now charging Rs.840/- on Rs.7480 is nearly 11.2% :@

Now my friend do not want to use ICICI BANKS service so can any one of you Suggest any bank who are REASONABLE compare to ICICI.:)

Dude! Check out HSBC.....
AWESOME SERVICE....

Else want to save cost use ING Vysya
Service is no problem with ICICI but, their charges are fishy and sudden changes in charges (increased) always.

They advertise offers in all media but never inform - even to who it affected - about any increase in charges, really piss off. Me too have problem with Current Account Charges and opt. to close account with them.

No HSBC or INF Vysya Branch in Our city.

ICICI sucks big time. Completely true about their service charges. I only use these accounts for transferring money across India due to their extensive no.of ATMs. The real savings have to be made with serious banks like State Bank of India or maybe Vijaya Bank or HDFC bank.

eg: They charge some 2+ K on their pension plans during the 1st year.
They charge Rs 56/- for any ECS form to be stamped.
They have a minimum charge of Rs 83/- for any draft drawn.(I once paid 83 for Rs 500 draft)

It has one of the worst loan depts filled with incompetent policy makers. I would like to warn people against them for eg like never go for final disbursement and then cancel it(they cannot reverse it in their system once it is set.) Also, they charge Rs 551/- for anything like it is chillar. eg: if you change your bank from where you are issuing post dated cheques towards loan repayment, they charge 551/-. For a xerox copy of your flat's sale deed, Rs 551/- reqd(I make copies of an earlier copy. Cost me 50 bucks.) and the bastards don't even attest it and keep the original leaving you at the mercy of notaries who demand a lot of money to attest without the original.

Also, their customer service is very very poor and you have to wait for so long just to get an email query answered by a kid who doesn't even know the policy properly(and probably has to go look it up hence the time delay). They have too many customers and it is just not worth even transacting with them anymore.

The same goes for Citibank. One of the worst banks I have ever dealt with. For serious banking, stick with SBI.

I have never got any replies from ICICI email help ever

And those buggers havent sent me my online password yet after I'd gone to the bank twice in 2 weeks

In general, I always had good experience with Corporation Bank. However, I am not aware of charges for foreign currency cheques.

Corp bank in my area :

I meet to Manager after setting nearly 30 minutes in front of him like statue he care to ask me the reason. I ask him some info, he said don't have with me wait and I will ask from other Head Office in Mumbai.

Again waiting for 10 minutes, he connect call some where and start not down some info on paper (I come to know that he may ask me to copy same), I ask him to get all info via Mail form the Branch or person he is calling, he look at me strangely and continue to write Nearly for 10 minutes (the info is so long that even one full size fullsapce paper might enough for it), the language he use neither hindi nor english:S

When I ask him that if there may be chance of any mistake in his info (as he note down on phone and every time he ask spelling on phone) my all money my be gone in WRONG ACCOUNT/HAND, so please give me the paper on which you note down info, he said no, copy it, I said please ask some one to type it on your Banks Letter had? he said no. I ask him to mail me this info, he said yes but only possible after 2 days, I said OK no problem I am ready to wait 2 days to avoid any future hassle and pain.

Today almost 2 months pass to that meeting but no mail:ohyeah:

If Manager is so efficient think how the employee will in that Branch.

HDFC Bank ... i have a lot of national & international bank activity and they take care of everything without any problems or hassels :D

banks have never been perfect for me.

i have tried many a banks in my study and professional life.

the list goes on SBI, CBI, BOB, SBS, UBI, HDFC, ICICI, and a few co-operative banks.

If you need something with govt. sector stick with SBI, they are turning professional like anything. eventhough they have some traits left over of the govt employees, but still you got a lot of things which an compete anywhere.

UBI (aka Union Bank of India) is new enthusiast in the the expansion and modernization bandwagon. I have recently started the banking relations with them they are cooperative, fast, efficient but few teething problems are there.

I will avoid BOB at anycost in govt. sector i have had very long time relations with them and they just went on becoming uglier.

Now to the private sector :

I have had full fledged banking relations with HDFC bank eversince launched in 1995/96, i am thouroughly satisfied with their core banking related services. But their credit card business and loan business desires to be improved. But still i will give it a thumbs up.

ICICI : recently our family was needed to start banking relations with them, it has gone smooth till date. prior to this we had loans from them and also credit cards which are really praiseworthy.
what has scored for me is ability to transfer money online to a list of banks even non-icici. this helps me a lot.

And not to forget the good ol local co-operative banks, which are by far way superior to all those swanky banks when it comes to local banking and way responsive too. Oly point you have to note is that do not keep too much cash with them :P (you dont know when they will blow).

tried 5-6 banks and then settled to HDFC and IDBI.

Both are very good. HDFC and IDBI have reasonable charges. HDFC is professional and spot on in terms of service. IDBI people can be little slow when it comes to giving out customised cheque books etc. At least thats my experience at my branch.

In the end you have to select the bank which is convenient to you and closer to either your work or home.

so select closer of the two.

charges for $ cheques?

my vote for HDFC, my dad has almost daily transactions with bank and has not complained about it till date....but in private sector Citibank sucks the most...they are bloody money leechers

icici's customer service is crap but the online banking and atm service is good

uti's online banking is down half the time on account of 'upgrading'

im going to open an account with hdfc when i get time

i have been using ICICI for a couple of years now...and i've never had a single problem with them...
My banking needs are pretty light and i mainly use the ATM's n net banking for bill payments , buying train/bus/air tickets n stuff...
And in both these area's ATM's n net banking ICICI excels...they have a huge ATM network n their net banking is free of cost :D
