But they charge Rs.280/- for FOREX check and my friend some time use to get up to 10 checks for $25.

Now calculate (with current $ rate)25x10=$250x44=11000/- and ICICI deduct Rs.280x10 cheque=2800/- for this Transaction.

I visit SBI with my friend but local branch Dy.Manager don't know about charges?

Here on TE I got one member who have SBI charges knowledge but he also didn't reply?

Now my friend need to travel for 1 hrs and visit other branch and may be possible that the other branch send him further.....

Unless its a corporate account, both ICICI and HDFC are almost same they always have fine prints and overcharge for almost everything (imagine - if urs is not a corporate account, you get only 5 ATM transactions/month free, above that they charge you ). I use UTI Bank and havent had any issues with them. They too charge for $ cheques though but not 280, its around 85.

I call to UTI and person who attend call, said they minimum charge $10 per transaction/per cheque, in this case UTI costlier compare to ICICI.

Can you give me example how they charge for $ cheque?
Do they charge Per Cheque or do they charge as per Amount?

I think charges are there with every ATM Banking, last time when I get my Debit Card have booklet and in it some where I read about charges and transaction limitations per day. Beware?

With a corp account, ICICI usually doesn't give you too much of headaches...No additional charges for pretty much any service online banking, Intrabank transfers, Cash withdrawals from any ATM etc...

I haven't had any probs with them so far, Though I know that their service can be extremely sucky for stand-alone accts

Ok, I checked back at both sites, and both of the banks no longer have the limit. But they did have it when I enquired with them in Jan 2006. This was the reason I went to UTI.

Stick: I think you are right, UTI charges more for forex checks. It was another PSU bank that had charged me 85 for a bankers check. So I was wrong in quoting it.

At the moment, ICICI seems to be the better of the evils. and if its google checks, I think you can as well opt for rupee checks. At the end the transferred amount will be short by around 10-12% anyways.
