Hello Everyone!:)
Wish to replace the entire cabinet within 20k.
Accordingly I have come up with a suitable config.
Kindly help me with your best advice\suggestions so that I can finalize the config.
Thank you all.
t3chg33k

Processor:
Intel C2D e7200

Motherboard:
A-bit IP35e

GPU:
Mercury GeForce 8600GT 256MB DDR3

Cabinet:
Zebronics Antibiotics\Peace\Bijli\Lava (without SMPS)
Cooler Master Elite 330 (with SMPS)
(Kindly suggest any cheap\sturdy\well designed cabinet if it cuts down the cost)

PSU(if required):
Power Safe SMPS 500W Silver

Memory:
Transcend\GSkill 2x1GB DDR2 @800Mhz

HDD:
Hitachi\Seagate\WD 160GB SATA2 7200rpm
(Already have a 160GB SATA1 drive, so is a SATA2 drive going to be really beneficial?)

Optical Drive:
Sony\LiteOn 18x Dual Layer DVD Writer
(Again 12x Single Layer Writer already present, so may be skip this one?)

Kindly suggest the latest street prices (Mumbai) and the choice of brands for the various components.:huh:

I prefer to get other PSU.. Incase if you want to change your rig or graphics card in future then It could be problem for you :P

nice config :) What monitor are you using?

keep your existing DVD writer and harddisk for the moment, and upgrade them later.

you could buy a better quality SMPS like a corsair 450, but if you plan on sticking to this config for a longer time i guess you will be fine with what you have selected.

Hey All,

How about Gigabyte Nivida Chipset mb @ Rs. 2900, I found good speed with e7200.

Correct me if necessary, "I dont think there will be any difference with respect to ABIT P-35e, if OC is not considered".

How about ATI 2400xt/pro 512mb instead of 8600GT with reference to power consumption.

@sudarshan2884
Thought about the 9600 GSO but its 2X performance at 2x price, since I am trying to stick to a budget and could do with a config that runs somehing like BioShock @med details,I suppose this one would do just fine.

@fangface
I agree with you, HDD and OD are currently in the backburner.
Actually I am purchasing a monitor as well but want to keep it separate from this budget. Initially I had been looking at Dell 198WFP but its availability in Mumbai is a big problem. Now I am looking forward to the LG 206WTQ, yet to get the price for it but hope it is below 11k

@gcbeldar
OC may not be a option right now, but defintely a bit in the future, don't want to push my power consumption unless absolutely necessary.

@Rahulrulez
I don't mind buying a PSU later if needed, but my biggest doubt is whether the 400W PSU that comes with the Zebronics Bijli would be able to meet the requirements of this config, especially with the 8600gt

Zebronics stock SMPS wont be able to run all that + it'll keep on restarting your computer >> Hard Disk Crash, Burnt MOBO, Burnt Ram etc.
So better go for an SMPS with a nice configuration like this(don't play with odds).

These are the current Prices in Mumbai :

Processor : Intel C2D e7200 Rs.6000-/-

Motherboard : Abit IP35e Rs.5350-/-:D

Graphics Card : Mercury Ge8600 GT 256 DDR3 Rs.2800-/-:hap5:

Ram : Geil 800Mhz Microns (1gb*2)4-4-4-12T Rs.2880-/-<via KMD>:clap:
or G-Skill F2-6400CL5D-2GBNQ (1GB*2)800Mhz Rs.2350-/-

Hard Disk : Western Digital 160gbSATAII 7200rpm Rs.1750-/-
Western Digital 250gb Single Plater Rs.2350-/-:hap2:

Optical Drive : Samsung SH-230D Rs.1050-/-

SMPS : Budget constraints then go for,
Cooler Master 460Watt extreme power Rs.1700-/-
If you can increase your budget then don't buy anything other than
Corsair 460Watt True Power SMPS efficiency 80%:clap: Rs.3600-/-

Cabinet : Zebronics Bijli + 120mm rear exhaust Rs.1000+250=Rs.1250-/-

TOTAL : 25,239-/- <MAX.>

Thanks a lot aman.pitbull:hap2:

Just a few doubts about the price and config that you posted.

1. Expected the e7200 to be at least a couple of hundreds lower ~5700

2. Why the :hap5: for the GPU?

3. What about Transcend value RAM @1800, is it going to provide a huge difference?

4. Samsung OD reliable? ( bad previous experiences with Samsung OD)

5. Cooler Master 460W or PowerSafe 500W?

P.S. Wouldn't mind if you get me directly in touch with the dealer who gave you these prices or is there any dealer from Mumbai here at TE who can provide a better deal?

got these prices two days back from LAminton Road.

intel E7200 - (MCANN-5450, Mahavir -5800)
Biostar PP35 - (Mcann - 4575 , Mahavir - 4425)

aman.pitbull

where did u get the following prices in mumbai?
A friend is about to upgrade. will be of help if u let me know.

Graphics Card : Mercury Ge8600 GT 256 DDR3 Rs.2800-/-
Cooler Master 460Watt extreme power Rs.1700-/-
Cabinet : Zebronics Bijli + 120mm rear exhaust Rs.1000+250=Rs.1250-/-

And perhaps anyone can suggest a 19"/20" LCD monitor with DVI\HDCP and <= 5ms response time that is actually available with dealers at Lamington Road. I had actually thought about LG 206WTQ but not sure if it is indeed easily available.

Sorry for the delay ,

Well transcend 800Mhz 2gb is available for Rs.2150-/-

So better go for Gskill one. GPU is good at that price but u can get a much better GPU for a bit more.

Well all these prices are the best I got from MCCANN and Prime.

If the guy (Bharat Bhai) doesn't come lower just mention him my name<a good friend>and tell him of the comparison between Cassette World+MCCANN I guarantee he'll come down. LOL!!

I've seen models from LG with MCCANN so try getting the entire setup from him and try to get the best prices.

Samsung has improved its quality a lot and is one of the best OD's around(check for more discussions around). LG's are also good but Samsung is currently the best.

Go for Cooler Master if you get the black 120mm one or else buy Powersafe 500W gold or a POV 500W Black.. better still is Corsair(best).

I bought a rig for the same price a few days back, with most of the components the same as yours :) For cabinet I went for

CM elite 330 + glacialstars 500W (CM460 wasnt available)

Graphics card : MSI geforce 8600GT 512MB DDR2 (I think the extra warranty with msi is worth the extra price)

Motherboard : Abit IP35P .. OK I was disappointed with this one :( It cost more than the integrated graphics boards, but lacked suitable connectivity of any kind (no parallel, serial, firewire, esata), and my sata disks arent recognised in linux. It has many overclocking options but those dont make up for the lack of basics. If OC'ing is not important to you, I recommend getting a G31/G33 board from gigabyte (or ideally P31 if you can find it).

If you are not overclocking, it is not wise to spend so much on these so called P boards. Instead you can go for a motherboard which has onboard graphics, either G33 or Nvidia 610i or 630i. There are plenty of them and @ almost half the price of P boards.

^ Seconded. Or, if you can spend a bit on the motherboard, go for a one which has a good range of features, like the MSI P35-Neo2. It is wise to avoid nvidia platforms for intel as they don't support dual channel.

Thanks ujjwal, premsharma695, aman.pitbull

From what I have read P35 has better performance at least if one is going for discrete gfx and ATX.
I wouldn't be overclocking ATM because I don't want to raise my power consumption without reason but I do want to keep the option open for the future.
I don't mind the lack of parallel,firewire or esata support because I wouldn't need any of them, serial support can be compensated for by the use of adapters, so I suppose I can go for the abit ip35-e.

@ujjwal
Did the ip35e have e7200 support out of the box, otherwise it is going to be a problem updating its bios

I guess my main problem is with the video card.
I just wanted a video card that can handle present and upcoming games @med details since I am not absolutely into gaming and hence the 8600gt seemed to be a good option. But I am a bit sceptical about the build quality of the Mercury card and I am not sure if any other recognised brand is available for less than 3500.
The other altogether different option is the 9600GSO but even a cheap version costs at least 6k something that I don't wish to invest in ATM.

I bought the IP35-P, which is a newer variant from Abit. The E7200 worked out of the box, and I have no reason to think that it should be any different with the IP35-E.

I think the 8600gt is a great option, particularly as the 9600gso will have a higher power consumption and is hard to find. I didn't need much gaming performance and I didn't plan to upgrade the graphics card for a while, so I went for the MSI. If the mercury is indeed available for 2.8k, it makes great sense and I don't think there should be too much of trouble with the build quality. If possible, test it out before buying and see its idle and load temperatures.
