How interesting, right?
WhatsApp too is encrypted. But the Indian Government is not questioning Meta, because everybody is earning well by harvesting and selling user data.
Telegram, on the other hand, is a "security concern" because it refuses to toe the line.
Governments want total control over the digital lives of individuals.
There are MANY communication channels for criminals. The Dark web is an open playground. However, Governments go after the one that refuses to "Moderate/Censor".
This is about Snooping by the Governments or the freedom/ability to do so.
Telegram has managed to create a VERY strong presence and preference among Millions of users primarily because it refused to bow down to Big Tech. Now, the Big Tech is using its influence to try and shut down the platform or limit its availability.

eh, lets not give Durov too much credit, he has his fair share of skeletons and shady dealings in Telegram itself to say the least, he's not some bastion of privacy that he professes telegram to be

Never mentioned Durov anywhere. However, now that you have mentioned him, why was he arrested? Why did he travel to France when he was aware the country would arrest him?
Nearly every Tech Company, Software Billionaire, and popular Apps have privacy issues. Remember Cambridge Analytica? Was Mark arrested?

officially, the reason is telegram is supporting money laundering/drugs etc, unofficially, its because the French govt is pissed they dont have the same backdoor access to Telegram like US or Russia

I mentioned Durov, because he's synonymous with Telegram for those who keep up in this niche, Tele is not nearly as secure as Durov makes it out to be, E2EE is not enabled by default, can only be done on private chats where you have to explicitly enable it, messages on servers are stored unencrypted, and yada yada yada, if you really want an E2EE first app, then Signal or even Matrix is your best bet

I'm taking backup of my telegram chats as of now but it is terribly slow. Like 100MB file is taking 10+ mins to gets backed up.

If it does get banned here then it just means one would need vpn to access it unless it is banned globally.
Does anyone have any information/opinion on this? or can they just restrict access +/- ban +/- delete all the accounts with +91 mobile?

Meta is deeply entrenched into the establishment.

Zuckerberg Says He Regrets Not Being More Outspoken About 'Government Pressure'

Zuckerberg said senior Biden administration officials "repeatedly pressured" Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, to "censor" content in 2021. "I believe the government pressure was wrong, and I regret that we were not more outspoken,"
The Meta CEO also said the company "shouldn't have demoted" a New York Post story about corruption allegations involving President Biden's family ahead of the 2020 election while waiting for fact-checkers to review it. The social media company has since updated its policies and processes, including no longer demoting content in the U.S. while waiting for fact-checkers, he noted. Zuckerberg also said in Monday's letter that he does not plan to make contributions to local jurisdictions to support election infrastructure this cycle, like he did during the 2020 election.

Actually, if read in mediaspeak, he is not actually expressing regret, rather advertising his platform's capability.

yeaaah, like Trump and his cronies or the Zuck's Russian/Chinese overlords did not extend pressure on him to give them access, I would treat any statement by a corporate entity in US with a fistful of salt until the elections are done, its in Corporate Murica's best interests that Trump becomes president again

With the kind of political situation they themselves and the world is in, have a feeling that Trump actually don't want to be the next President. That is not going to be a cozy seat. At least, democrats are said to have an inner cabal which handle their Presidential place holder, unlike republicans who behave like a bundle of cats plus crabs in a bucket.

Nah, he's shitting his pants now that Kamala is the one running, Millenials and GenZ identify with her, and he knows when she becomes President, she's gonna clean him first. Plus, he's surviving on Russian/Chinese money right now and that well will dry up the moment he loses the elections

Kamala looks like an over-hyped candidate without anything of substance or mettle, even if she wins the placeholder post with feelz votes it is going to be real difficult ride. She was the last and least appealing option who suddenly got trumpeted into everyone's ears because the first candidate got so unstable.
