Daniel Day-Lewis has agreed to do an Indian movie on the life of our prime minister Mr. Manmohan Singh & the name of the movie will be "The Silence of the Lambs".

I want to ask this question to people who have watched Argo; Do you genuinely feel that it deserved an Oscar? If yes, then why?
No. I don't think it deserved best picture..
For me the movie was nothing more than a mere documentary. It was emotionally void. I understand that since it was based on a true story, there wasn't much scope. But this kind of true story never needed a movie.

Yes, Argo was just an average movie. It is good that it is based on facts and has good acting by all of them. But it was boring in second half and at best it was average movie.

That is such a shitty argument. Every story can be a movie. It just needs to be well executed in other departments such as acting, directing, cinematography, music etc...

I'm generally baffled every year at the best movie, best actor/actress award-winners for the Oscars every year and this year is the same too.

I loved Argo - the atmosphere, the tension, the period depicted; everything was spot on. The acting and direction were excellent even if the version of events may have been modified for commercial purposes. But I've not seen most of the other movies that were on roster - Les Miserables, Django Unchained etc, so it would be not fair to give my opinion as to whether it was better or not. You didn't like the movie?

The thing I am surprised about is the Best Actress for Jennifer Lawrence for Silver Linings Playbook. Is she really that good in the movie?!

Its called art since no one understands it better and are afraid to say out in public as to what people will say when I say its not a good movie. In my opine and I always go by this there are 3 different kinds movies -

1. Good Movie.
2. Enjoyable Movie.
3. Great Movie ( Combination of 1 and 2 )

Argo may be a good movie but definitely not enjoyable so it losses out on 3 too though the definition of enjoyment differs from person to person but take in layman terms examples could be -

1. Moneyball.
2. Ted.
3. Lord of the Rings.

Firstly, by your examples a good movie according to you is a serious sort of a movie, but not enjoyable? And an enjoyable movie is a fun movie but it is not a good movie? Help me out here.

I laughed my ass off watching Ted but you seriously can't expect them to give it a best movie award. I know what you are trying to say but comparing Ted to a movie like Moneyball/Argo is an apples to oranges comparison. In the most general sense, maybe, but it should not be compared.

Lord of the Rings won a bucket-load of Oscars anyways.

Comparing Argo vs Moneyball (not seen Moneyball myself), IMDB, metacritic, RT - Argo edges out slightly ahead of Moneyball everywhere. Some people may find Argo boring whereas some may find Moneyball boring.

Also, Argo was a commercial movie. It was not an art movie. Might have been a bit slower than most run-of-the-mill action/thriller movies since it was based on a real incident, but it was still a commercial movie IMHO.

That's why I mentioned "layman" and imdb lol argo is recently released movie give it some time ratings would change.

1. Ted
2. American Pie
3. Life is Beautiful

No, just that the others werent better. And you always get extra points if you are playing something new/abnormal/eccentric.

Argo deserves it, but less than Lincoln. This my how-much-movie-deserves-oscar meter :

Lincoln - 100%
Argo - 98%
La Miserablah - 97%
Life Of Pi - 95%
Django - 95%

Or I may be biased, cos I am a Ben Afleck fan. But he atleast deserved an nomination in Director's category.

Also I was TOTALLY sure that it would get award for Screenplay. That work is just awesome.

Btw I am totally unhappy with Brave winning Best Animated Film. I haven't seen others, but Brave totally does NOT deserve Oscars. It does even feel like Pixar movie [Remember Wall-E, Finding Nemo & Toy Story?], it is like one of those DreamWorks' movies.

Lol to you - Argo released on October 12, 2012 (USA). I saw it last year too. The ratings are strong with this one. I can understand and respect the fact that you might have found it slow and boring but majority people did like it. And no, it's not because "people are afraid to say anything because it's an art movie and they would look stupid if they said that they didn't like it"

1. Ted
2. American Pie

3. Life is Beautiful

I hate to disappoint you but it's the Oscars, not the Filmfare awards

No she's not IMO. Just uses a lot of cuss words so all's good. This might give some credence to the "Battle Royale" knock-off -- The Hunger Games
