Wanted to show off my 100$ zune to a dude with an iPhone. Turned on my zune, to my embarrassment, the damn think got stuck at booting. :@ I was like 'this is happening for the first time EVER'. Which was quite true.

I tried all combinations I knew to reset the device, none worked. I started browsing the forums....and landed here Zune.net

All over the world Zunes are dying, 30G especially. Unconfirmed reports of some 8Gs also. Seems like something to do for 31st december. Virus have not been ruled out but Zune users are sure this is doing of M$ to get rid of older Zunes. Hope they don't have the same kill switch with everyone's pyara Win XP :P

I would not put it past MS to do something like this,I'd be majorly pissed off if I were you.

Hope it gets fixed.
 
it was me at fault for major part as i left it out in open. thankfully a person in office was kind enough to put it with rest of my stuff :)
 
Dude WTF!!!!! .. My Zune 30 is dead too !!!!!! (Me too bought it for 100$) ....

It is stuck at the Zune boot up screen and its not moving forward......

I am seriously pissed!!!!
 
dont say every other zune becomes dead... will look like a plot of a movie which brings the downfall of microsoft

..I think this has happened to every Zune 30 on the planet..... Just went through hundreds of pages with ppl complaining abt the same problem...... This is really freaky... ALL the Zunes dying on the same day at the same time!!!

Imagine that..... Well next thing I know, I have a dead 360...(which is not as big as the zune problem owing to the 3 yrs warranty )
 
OMFG,someone tell me I am not sleeping!

I had too bought the 100$ brown zune(1st ge. 30gb one) from KMD about an year back and guess what its dead!

I was watching a family guy video on it at about 1.30pm and it just went off,and the reboot got stuck at the loading screen(the one which have the zune logo, and zune written with that while 'loading' line at the bottom,the white line was full),and it din't respond to any key combos whatsoever.

then I got mad(I am a mad-ngry man) and tried hard resetting it,had to let the battery dry off itself before it switched off,connect it to PC to charge it,it din't boot up yet again,battery run off again,tried hard reset(content+firmware),this time it got stuck at "clearing content.Please Wait.",again had to let the bettery run dry,again it got stuck at booting(this time there aint no white loading line though).:|

Whats worse is that I am so broke after the shopping spree in holidays,can't buy no good PMP in recent future,how the fuk am I supposed to listen to all the trance now?:(

and thats why I hate M$ so much,I had no problems with my Zune whatsoever till now, and now all of a sudden its dead!

BTW,I am pretty darn sure nothing could be done about our poor dead zunes cus

1.We are out of warranty.

2The Zunes aren't getting detected by the zune software on PC.

oh btw,anyone looking for a replacement should have a look at cowon s9,16gb@15k in India.Wish I had 15k right now,:\.
 
ok another zune user here. this news is all over the net. all 30gb zune have died. no survival as of yet. even those who are on the old firmware have been affected. hope MS comes come with something as people are really pissed. checkout the first post for official link to be updated on the situation.
 
I'm sure, the latest firmware which introduced clock functionaly has some bug in clock reading part. How else every zune is going dead at exact same time. Ppl calling it z2k :D
