Kolkata is on a roll, If i wasn't living in Coimbatore i would be rooting for them instead of Chennai :D....nice game, lights going out in the middle and stuff :P Was pretty weird hearing the crowd chanting "Hussey" ... :S

Who else is still saying bangalore has a Test team?

Misbah and Dale Steyn is joining the team for the next match. That makes Royal Challengers a more COMPLETE and BALANCED team.

Heh a close finish, but Bangalore finishes in style.

BTW for which team is Bracken playing ? because tight bowlers like these are a huge assets, for eg : Vaas, Mcgrath, Pollock etc...

Edit and how long do you think before the IPL thread overtakes EPL thread ?

I didn't watch the starting matches but I'm just really glad to have caught the RC's second match. We just pulled this one right out from under the Mumbaikars. Haha!! ChanderPaul, Dravid, Taylor,Kallis , Kohli, Boucher were all superb. Easily the best batting I've ever seen.

Brackan is playing for Bangalore!!!! But he will be available only in May.

With Brackan,Steyn,Zaheer,Praveen Kumar, BRC bownling attack will rock others.

both the games were on a tight finish 2day...knight riders seem to be the strongest of em all..

..was feeling sad for mr Head bewra bfore :bleh: ... thinking blore headed for yet anoder crash in the gutter ...but every bewra has his day...... to taste champagne... :ashamed:

noone else here shares my view that the ipl is complete trash?

i've never seen cricket on television have such bad production values... laxman sivaramakrishnan is a sri lankan captain??? jeez.. you can atleast know the background of your own commentators.. the jarring vodafone/godrej ads that keep popping up... the totally incompetent cameramen who do not know how to track a ball..

and all this without even coming to the point of that money sucking bas!@#d lalit modi... should have seen him during that mohali game.. saala preity zinta pe chance pe dance maar raha tha..

Agreed... But I love cricket too much to care...

Besides, they lost Tony Greig, Jeff Thompson, Barry Richards, Dean Jones and a few other presenters to ICL...

^^ the siva thing was a dig at set-max.. he is a decent enough commentator,, just that the jackasses at set-max dont seem to realize that he was an indian player... (whenever he came during the post/pre match shows, he had a coupla lines of text get flashed on the screen along with his name, which contend that he was a 'former sri-lankan captain'

also.. abt the said 'loss of presenters'.... i hope u also realize that ravi shastri n gavaskar have also quit.. from espn-star to provide commentry on set-max.

also.. and more importantly.. shastri nd gavaskar are supp to members of the ipl organizing commitee... dont they have the ethics to realize that they shouldnt be doing commentary for something they are organizing.. whatever happened to conflict of interest?

also.. OT trivia.. Lalit Modi is the guy who decided that indians need to be blessed with the presence of FTV.... his company provides FTV to indian operators..

Production values, I agree is seriously lacking, but the potential for the IPL is immense, you have to be at the game to realize it. Give it a couple of seasons so the issues can be ironed out.

The implementation was done at too much of a haste. Also the ads will keep appearing until there is some sense in cable distribution, as the non-CAS areas are hardly paying anything to watch the paid channels. The quality of production and user experience will drastically improve if this is made in the pay-per-view format used in the US....

what sort of potential are you talking about?? i still cant understand why Subhash Chandra aint forcing the issue and taking the BCCI to court.. His team came up with a concept. They were open about their commercial motives. they approached the bcci..

the bcci starts talking to them. the bcci does a volte face.. the bcci nicks all plans.. the bcci outlaws the icl.. the bcci cashes in on concept. thats waht has happened.

maybe its just coz of my in-born hatred towards the BCCI,, but somehow i feel that i enjoyed watching the ICL matches a lot mroe than the IPL games ive seen. did anyone notice how the ads for the ICL matches were structured? it was pretty obvious that they werent exactly lacking in advertisers.. yet, they gave a damn abt the viewers. hell, during the last few overs of an innings they so much as dint show any ads.. the commentators were given a Clean+Free hand... no interruptions in mid-sentences.. long meaningful discussions tht neednt be broken for ad-breaks.

and some really good cricket all around. it wasnt all sixer and four smashing. and despite the ghastly presence of rakhi sawant at some games :P the matches were very enjoyable/watchable.

my whole grouse here is not abt the concept of a t20 league.. but mroe abt the way the BCCI has 'managed' to mis-manage(sic) rip-off the concept.

Today they have sold 'portal' rights to a media company, tomorrow they might sell the print media rights to someone else(thereby outlawing coverage on any other print media companys publications). Farfetched as it might sound.... with Lalit Modi in control.. anything is possible.

ps- i dont mind ads.. but i do mind it when a third of my screen gets gobbled up mid over.. and some mindless jingle plays at more than 2x the volume that ive set it to. effectively drowning out whatever the comments being offered by the experts might be.(the mid-over ad is not something new, howevr the double volume amplified jingles surely are.)

That's true. Was at the game yesterday. Awesome good fun. Nayar(I think) screwed things up. Dropped a catch that immediately cost 12 runs. (He was right in front of our stand. He go heckled a lot so when he took a catch the next over, he turned around and started pointing at us. )

And Nehra's over! :@

True, I am sympathetic to the ICL cause and have watched a few matches. The quality of the presentation as well as the cricket was pretty high.

But you have to realise, there are some of us whose hatred for the BCCI is not as high as yours. (Yes, I hate it too, but not to the extent that it will put me off IPL.) I would go so far as to say, most people are actually indifferent to the BCCI. All I want, is to watch Sachin and Jayasurya open, Bhajji to bowl to Symonds and Lee bowl Hayden with a scorching yorker. Now, I'll only get to see in the IPL, so I have to pass on cash to the BCCI (which I do not like doing). What can we do?

ALso, you are right about the ADs. I hate them! But my trehsold of tolerance has to be raised again, if I want to watch IPL, which I do.

Yep BCCI used strong arm tactics, but isnt that what everybody here in India is doing, be it in politics, media, or cricket in this sense..

The bottom line is the better players are in IPL, so it is going to be much more enjoyable and if you have seen the last couple of matches, its not only sixes and fours etc

KKR and PXI are the teams to watch, both have nice teams and will do some justice to IPL, not forgetting the deccan team, they will rise strongly, and these are the three teams i support:

KKR : as i live in Kolkata

P XI : As i'm a Sikh, and i've been there quite a number of times

Deccan C : As AP is my second home after Kolakata, i have been to Vizag some 40-50 times in my life

Totally agree, Set max is doing a horrible job, I don't even want to get started on the anchors (Jadeja got the name of the show wrong :S )... The ads are irritating as hell....I listened to a podcast of harsha bhogle some time back and he stressed on how ESPN keeps in mind the viewer. Broadcasting sports should be left to the pros....SET max is a joke....
