Damn intel

core i3 socket 775

core i5 s1155/1156

i7 s1156/1366

ix sxxx

chng board everytime u wanna upgrade a better cpu.

Amd roxx with their socket integrity

still its doubtful how long will intel continue with socket775 processors....a safer bet would be buying an AMD config....also pricing of mobos would depend for people to accept corei9,corei5 processors...

Wow.. Awesome roadmap Intel has come forward with :D

The only led down is socket selection and pricing..

They are planning to sell the cheapest i3[arrandale] for $260 :O Fudzilla - Cheapest Arrandale to sell for around $260 so what will be the pricing of higher i5 and i9 :P

Arrandale is mobile proc so pricing is obviously going to be higher.. see any current C2D mobile chip at distributors in india and you will see what i mean.. basic C2D mobile is more expensive than mid-range C2Q desktop proc and high end C2D mobile is more expensive than core i7 940.

Pricing for Arrandale and Core i5 desktop will be similar..same goes for i7 clarksfield mobile and i7/i9 desktop processors.

In the recent past week, Intel revealed their massive surge of microprocessors. In fact, all in the same day, we had updates on their 32nm mobile processors, 32nm Core i5's and Core i3's processors, and the new Core i5 and Core i7 processors coming out in November. Now Intel has revealed their Core i9's as well as their next-gen nettop processors, all coming out in Q1 2010.

Intel has just revealed the new Core name pattern but now there are rumors about possible CPUs of the Core i9 series. The 32 nm 6-core Gulftown is said to be an appropriate candidate.

The people behind those windows possibly know if Gulftown will really be marketed as Core i9. [Source: view picture gallery]
Some days ago Intel put an end to the rumors and officially introduced the Core i3 and Core i5 pattern. But now new rumors say that Intel's 6-core CPU Gulftown will be traded under the name Core i9. The current Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad processors will be the Core i3 family.

Core i9: Update: First benchmark results

Intel's posterboy processor for the 32 nm Westmere architecture, the six-core Gulftown is now living, breathing silicon. The company seems to have already dispatched samples of the chip. Gulftown is based on the LGA-1366 socket. Featuring 6 cores and 12 threads with HyperThreading enabled, it holds 12 MB of L3 cache to support the additional data load over the QuickPath Interconnect.

A noted enthusiast has two Gulftown processors running in a dual-socket setup. This 12 core, 24 thread monstrosity uses 24 GB of DDR3 memory using 4 GB modules (perhaps 2 x 3 modules). The processors are running at 2.40 GHz (18 x 133 MHz). The machine was put through WPrime multi-threaded benchmark. It crunched WPrime 32M in a little over 6 seconds, and 1024M in 145.6 seconds. Going by older information, Gulftown should be implemented in a commercial product in Q1 2010, when Intel plans a host of other important product launches. When released as Core i9, the processor will target the premium enthusiast market.

Damn i want i9 when it hits india

^Are we going to have a dozen threads relating to the news of the i9 - its launch, review, being pitted against other processors, benches etc. so long as it launches?

Can we have all the Gulftown related news merged into a single thread just as we had the 4XXX series GPU thread in our Gfx section?

Here're more of the i9 related stuff in our forums:

Request a mod to have all the threads merged.

A little over a fortnight away from launch, one of Intel's first socket LGA-1156 processors, the Core i5 750 has started being listed on popular American online (and ground) retailer Fry's. Not for pre-order or expected stock, but accepting orders for same-day shipping! The processor ended up being priced just where we expected it to be: around the $200 mark (listed on roadmaps so far as $196).

Based on the Nehalem architecture, the Core i5 750 "Lynnfield" is a monolithic quad-core processor with a clock speed of 2.66 GHz, with a QuickPath Interconnect connection to the northbridge it shares the chip package with. It features 256 KB L2 caches per core, and a shared 8 MB L3 cache. Its integrated DDR3 memory controller addresses dual-channel memory

^^One test doesn't make anything different.

Would you call i7 top of the line worse than 965 now ?

Don't jump to the conclusion as of now :) Let the full reviews come out, but what I see that it will be better than Phenom II, just wait and watch. Amd will release B3 stepping Phenom II before Phenom III [32nm]. The b3 will hopefully will allow more clocks and fix some nifty issues :P
