The Lego (and Knockoffs) Thread

I got it from Pandabuy. Here is the pandabuy link where I got it from..

It costs 22 CNY (approx Rs. 300) and shipping which I feel may be higher than this. Total weight of package if you order only above will come to approx 300 Gms. I can share pics too of weight of actual lego pieces that pandabuy people uploaded.
Thank you so much, ordered it !

Something to help you. I cannot help with shipping cost as I had this and other item so my cost was higher but I strongly suggest that if you are planning to order more, please order that item too and ship together as if you use all these postal shipping like E-GUB or so, they have some fixed costs first and then every 100 gms is incremental cost.
Due to this, say you have 2 packages, and say both are 500 Gms. Shipping both separately will cost more than shipping together 1 Kg package.

@raksrules may I have the product link of alibaba if possible?
The "I have no clue where I am going to put them" purchase. Total 4 sets. 2 technic and 2 non technic.

  • Land Rover Defender
  • McLaren F1
  • Back to the Future DeLorean
  • Volkswagen T1 Camper Van

All bought from Alibaba seller and shipped using a freight forwarder to India.

Seems all pieces are there and even extra pieces (in its dedicated bag). Manuals are good and i am sure original lego Manuals (through lego builder app) will also work on these builds as these are exact replicas of original.
Stickers also provided. All bags are numbered properly and manuals (except camper van) are having instructions as per Bag number exactly like lego.

Although i don't mind you giving the link, do you intend to buy and get it shipped using a shipping forwarder? I only ask this since directly shipping won't work as most alibaba sellers either won't ship to India or will quote ridiculous shipping prices which won't make any sense.
You can actually download picture of a lego box and upload on alibaba to find the listings. I messaged multiple sellers and some even won't ship within China and some will require you to order a minimum quantity.
But the seller I bought from is ready to ship single piece too but within China only. He will charge local Chinese shipping but that is ok.

My cousin went for business to few cities in China so got this through him. I ordered it through a Alibaba seller who shipped to his hotel address in Guangzhao.
Size of that tyre.
Cost me ₹1650 or so landed to his hotel.

Build coming through. It is so much involved and complex and fun at the same time. I have realized that lego offers immensely involving sets and the challenges they posses are so nice even with the step by step instructions.
At one point in build, we realized that there was a crucial missing piece. So had to stop the build as we will need that piece. Will be getting it from brick link through an India based seller. Me and my son took entire inventory of all pieces to see if any other pieces were missing and found 2 more small pieces missing. So all will be ordered soon.

I thought that was some crazy price but it's quite close to the american one.

I can't imagine a Lego set going for close to a grand
Many of the new sets too are priced close to American prices. Which is a welcome change to their obnoxious prices. The dune ornithopter is $170 in US and add some taxes to it. On Amazon India it is ₹15k

Only to say for some one who grew up with Lego's these prices are crazy.

Fine, there's plenty of cheaper choices meaning 5k tops :grumpy:

Maybe one fine day, they'll make them here. Why not. There's a lot of kids in this country

I would rather compare with Asian countries where Lego is much cheaper than US. Look at China/HK/Taiwan, even Thailand etc. Ex: Dune set costs 130 USD in most of these countries (Taiwan etc) as selling price (you'll always find the newest sets on discounts). India really ****ed up getting good quality toys with 70% import duty - must toys dried up overnight. Look at the junk which Hamleys sells now - they are a shadow of their former self.
Some shops like Toycra are importing good quality toys and playables but the prices are crazy due to import tax. Our imports declined by more than half, exports increased over 200% but the overall availability of good quality, safe and educational toys has dwindled.
I am still really surprised how Lego is maintaining almost US pricing for some sets in India with such high import tax.

I'm in no way implying that I'm OK with the prices. I don't even buy original Lego due to the prices and I always go for knockoff sets. You can see my post above where I have mentioned the knockoff sets I have bought.
It is just that I was surprised to see the sets being priced on par with US prices usually. I don't expect that to ever happen.

The most expensive technics set if I convert was around $60-80. At that price or little lower they would also sell 'basic' sets. A box with a lot of different blocks you could make a few things out of instead of just one model. These were great vfm as you could make other things too. There would be these magazines lego would put out of different things you could put together if you had the right blocks and most did if they grew up with Lego.

I remember going to this kids school can't recall where but there was a playroom with crates full of Lego's. Like the storage boxes you get. Lots of them.

Build whatever you want. All paid for by the school. I was just amazed. Nothing as fancy as the models you guys have but no less fun

Finally done. What a build!! Takes immense effort and has so many intricate steps. Totally worth the time spent. And this thing is so huge. Weights 1.45 Kg (yes i actually measured).
And not to forget, this is not even the original lego. I got this From China for under 2K (thanks to my cousin who got it personally).
Cumulative effort of my kid and myself.
One lego mini figure and iPhone 13 for scale to show how huge this set is.
